Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

Yeah, I know. It's just that the whole "Toxic Fandom" has been used so many times to describe the regular fandom ro the Hard Core Fans that nowadays it sounds more like an insult to the entire fanbase rather than a select group. As I explained with my reasoninig before, I think that select sub-group is the one that tries to make everything about themselves, instead of making it about the project itself.
It doesn't help when the "Toxic Fans" is now recurrently used by the creators when they screw up and get called on for it...

The Witcher, The Acolyte, Rings of Power, Velma the list goes on and on...

TBH I don't understand this reasoning because a consumer will always be entitled to use their money to buy whatever they goddam like, and since it´s their fucking money they won't need to justify their choices in ANY shape, way, or form... And surprise!!! It is pretty unlikely that a consumer will purchase something whose creator is actively insulting him.
I mean the ones who take it way too far and Bully and criticise those who simply want to join and make their own version and fangames. You know the ones that get loud and try to cancel other fans for making a novel or game based on the Series but has a different Canon or HC that deviates from what those guys think should be.
In this, I am very much like George RR Martin, if you are making an adaptation or expanding an existing universe with a sequel/spin off thinking that you know better and that you can improve things by "making a story your own" tends to be a plague...

That is how abominations like The Witcher, Velma, Dragon Ball Evolution, and so forth get done
George R.R. Martin " said:
If anything, things have gotten worse. Everywhere you look, there are more screenwriters and producers eager to take great stories and "make them their own."
It does not seem to matter whether the source material was written by Stan Lee, Charles Dickens, Ian Fleming, Roald Dahl, Ursula K. Le Guin, J.R.R. Tolkien, Mark Twain, Raymond Chandler, Jane Austen, or… well, anyone. No matter how major a writer it is, no matter how great the book, there always seems to be someone on hand who thinks he can do better, eager to take the story and "improve" on it. "The book is the book, the film is the film," they will tell you, as if they were saying something profound. Then they make the story their own.
They never make it better, though. Nine hundred ninety-nine times out of a thousand, they make it worse.

So has anyone seen Megalopolis? I've been hearing nothing but that it's pretty bad and possibly Coppola's worst movie with it being another failed vanity project. Thing is, I looked up the movie's production, and Coppola wanted to make it as early as 1989 but he couldn't get support due to his many bombs of the 80s and lacked studio trust. Here he's set to release Dune and he's George's close friend so.....

I have seen it and it was terrible...

Don't ask me much about it I have already forgotten most of it...

Wasn't there also that scandal where they put up some fake negative reviews of past Coppola movies in a trailer?

Huh, perhaps with the current work in Dune (and considering how he also is doing his own personal projects aside from it) he'll be too busy to think of or try to make Megalopolis this time around.

I mean, if we keep him busy with the entire Dune saga he should not have that much time between that and the OTL movies to try it, right?

@Magoose A couple of things

What have you decided about us buying the rights for Dollar Trilogy How much would cost if it is possible?

Can we use this upgrade turn to buy the adaptation rights of novels, comics, etc?

@Magoose I have a question. We have many new improvements for Lucasfilms in the works now, but can we also improve our animation department so that we can have more animators and directors? We have been quite limited in that area.

no on the dollars trilogy for now.

That is actually something that is coming up next turn in an action.

Awesome!!!

On the top of my head how much would cost the rights for:

The Forever War?

The Neverending Story?

The Adventures of Tintin?

The complete works of Lovecraft?

All the novels available from Isaac Asimov and Arthur C Clarke?

I have to go to sleep so I won't be able to update my plan for a few hours... But I accept suggestions on this matter so If you want to acquire the right foe something I will include them.

Why are you trying to use an upgrade turn to buy adaptation rights? Just make a plan for it on a normal turn.
That's what we've always done, and it gives us more variety on the plans as well. So I agree here.

As for the properties to buy, well...
I never liked that series, if possible I'd like to pass it for another like The Chronicles of Amber whose books would allow us to make some amazing TV Series or films.
The Neverending Story?
Constantin Films is making the movie at this very moment, and will be released next year. Best we can do is get the distribution rights and convince them to make the sequel immediately instead of waiting years and letting the actors age out.
The Adventures of Tintin?
They're cool, but it's not a priority.
The complete works of Lovecraft?
... Can we truly own it all? I heard the rights were a mess
All the novels available from Isaac Asimov and Arthur C Clarke?
I'm still surprised that no one has bought them yet.

The first two books of the Belgariad series came out in 82. We'd have to wait till 84 for the story to be over but it's a damn good book series that'd be good for film or a tv series.

Report on the Marketing Plan for Treasure Planet

INTER-OFFICE MEMO

To: Mr. Bruce O'Brian, Mr. George Lucas, and Mr. Michael Eisner
From: Mrs. Beatrix Potter, Head of the Marketing Division
Date: June 22, 1983
Re: Progress Report on the Marketing Plan for Treasure Planet

Dear Mr. O'Brian, Mr. Lucas, and Mr. Eisner,

I am writing to provide a detailed progress report on the marketing strategy for Treasure Planet, in anticipation of the film's upcoming release and the high expectations for its success. This report will cover the status of numerous marketing initiatives, milestones achieved, tasks planned for the next several months, and challenges we are working to overcome.

List of Completed or Ongoing Projects and Milestones Achieved:

  1. Television Campaign
    • Overview: The central pillar of our marketing campaign, the TV spots are designed to captivate a broad audience, especially families. Using cutting-edge special effects from the film, the spots highlight the adventure, humor, and breathtaking visuals of Treasure Planet. The focus will be on Jim Hawkins' journey, with flashes of epic space battles to draw in younger viewers.
    • Status Update: All spots (30-second and 60-second versions) are completed. Test audiences responded positively, noting the eye-catching visuals and relatable characters. National airing begins May 1st on major networks during primetime shows aimed at family audiences. Localized versions for international markets are currently in production, with delivery expected by mid-May.
  2. Comic Book Tie-In
    • Overview: In partnership with Marvel Comics, a comic series will expand on the Treasure Planet universe, providing deeper backstories and fleshing out supporting characters. This strategy targets younger audiences, sci-fi fans, and comic book readers, driving engagement ahead of the film's release. A collector's edition will be available through direct sales in comic book shops.
    • Status Update: Marvel has completed two issues, which are set to debut in June. Cross-promotion includes exclusive previews in major Marvel titles like The Amazing Spider-Man. This initiative has already generated buzz in the comic book community, and fan anticipation is high.
  3. Cereal Box Promotion
    • Overview: We have partnered with General Mills to create Treasure Planet-branded cereal boxes featuring collectible holographic trading cards and stickers. This aims to increase awareness among young audiences while creating an easy entry point for parents through a familiar household product.
    • Status Update: The design and production of the boxes are complete. Distribution is planned for July, to coincide with the film's marketing ramp-up. We have secured high-profile placement on popular cereals such as Cheerios and Lucky Charms.
  4. Cross-Promotion with Burger King
    • Overview: As part of a nationwide collaboration, Burger King will feature Treasure Planet-themed Kid's Meal toys, including miniatures of the RLS Legacy ship, Jim's solar surfer, and character figurines. The toys will come with secret codes that kids can input on a promotional website for exclusive digital content.
    • Status Update: Final toy designs have been approved and manufacturing is complete. Co-branded television commercials featuring the promotion will air two weeks before the film's release, and in-store displays will be installed by the first week of June.
  5. Billboard Campaign
    • Overview: A large-format billboard campaign will feature key visual elements of Treasure Planet, focusing on iconic moments such as Jim on his solar surfer against a backdrop of galaxies. Strategically placed in high-traffic areas, the billboards aim to build visual recognition and generate buzz among general audiences.
    • Status Update: The billboard designs, which emphasize the grandeur and scope of the film's visuals, have been finalized. Billboards will be placed in major markets, including Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago, by mid-June.
  6. Magazine Features and Interviews
    • Overview: Exclusive features in various publications will highlight behind-the-scenes insights, interviews with the cast and crew, and the groundbreaking animation techniques used in the film. This is targeted at building excitement among both family audiences and sci-fi enthusiasts.
    • Status Update: Articles have been written and are set to release in conjunction with the film's promotional push in June. Several key interviews with George Lucas and the voice actors are completed and scheduled for publication.
  7. Toy Store Partnerships
    • Overview: In-store displays in major toy retailers, including Toys "R" Us, will showcase Treasure Planet merchandise in high-traffic areas. These displays will feature life-sized cutouts of characters, interactive demo stations, and exclusive early access to certain toys. This initiative is designed to reach children directly and encourage sales.
    • Status Update: Display designs have been finalized and installation is scheduled for mid-June, to coincide with the peak of summer shopping.
  8. Sneak Peek Theatrical Trailer
    • Overview: A full-length trailer will be shown in cinemas worldwide, attached to major blockbusters, giving Treasure Planet a direct link to highly anticipated releases. This aims to capture the interest of moviegoers and sci-fi enthusiasts, the rece,t release of star wars should help in that.
    • Status Update: The trailer is finished and will begin screening in May, maximizing visibility among our target audience.

Tasks Planned for the Next Months:

  1. Exclusive Sneak Peek Events
    • Plan: We will host a series of exclusive preview events in major cities, targeted at influencers, media, fan clubs, and industry insiders. These events will feature a 20-minute sneak peek of the film, followed by Q&A sessions with key cast members, producers, and the creative team. The goal is to create excitement among core demographics who will help amplify buzz through early reviews and word-of-mouth.
    • Next Steps: Invitations will be sent out in early May, with events starting in late June. We are finalizing venues, ensuring we select iconic locations that reflect the film's futuristic aesthetic (e.g., planetariums, tech innovation hubs).
  2. Celebrity Endorsements and Appearances
    • Plan: Secure appearances and endorsements from high-profile celebrities who resonate with the Treasure Planet audience. We are considering popular figures within the science fiction and adventure genres, such as Harrison Ford or Carrie Fisher, to help tie the film's space themes to broader pop culture.
    • Next Steps: Negotiations are ongoing with celebrity representatives. Once finalized, these endorsements will be integrated into major marketing pushes, including TV appearances, interviews, and social media campaigns.
  3. Major Print Campaign
    • Overview: A print advertising campaign will run in high-profile magazines, including National Geographic, Entertainment Weekly, and Popular Science. The focus will be on stunning visuals from the film and behind-the-scenes content showcasing the animation technology and world-building elements.
    • Next Steps: The creative team is working on final designs for these advertisements. Print ads will be strategically timed to appear in mid-June, just ahead of the theatrical release, ensuring maximum exposure.
  4. Retail Store Window Displays
    • Plan: We are collaborating with major department stores like Macy's and Bloomingdale's to create immersive window displays. These will feature life-sized models of the RLS Legacy, Jim Hawkins' solar surfer, and other iconic visuals from the film. The goal is to create a visually engaging experience that draws attention from both children and adults as they shop.
    • Next Steps: Design sketches for the window displays have been approved. We are now in the process of coordinating installation logistics, aiming for a launch in early July.
  5. Collaboration with NASA
    • Overview: A strategic partnership with NASA will lend scientific credibility to Treasure Planet and align the film with real-world space exploration. Planned initiatives include educational content that will be distributed in schools, planetarium shows featuring visuals from the film, and special NASA-themed events that highlight the film's exploration themes.
    • Next Steps: We are finalizing the specifics of the partnership with NASA's public outreach department, aiming to formalize the agreement by mid-May. Once secured, the campaign will roll out across educational institutions nationwide.
  6. Cinema Lobby Activations
    • Plan: We are developing interactive cinema lobby displays that will feature immersive experiences for moviegoers. These will include augmented reality stations where users can "explore" the film's environments, treasure hunts where participants can unlock special rewards, and life-sized replicas of the film's ships and characters. The goal is to turn cinema visits into more than just a film viewing – we want it to feel like an adventure.
    • Next Steps: We are currently in discussions with major theater chains to finalize installation and logistics. Designs are being tested, with a goal to launch in key cities by mid-June.
  7. School Marketing Program
    • Overview: To align with the film's themes of space exploration and adventure, we are developing educational content for schools. This will include lesson plans on navigation, space exploration, and storytelling, as well as film-inspired science projects like building model ships or exploring star systems. A nationwide outreach campaign will ensure these materials reach classrooms across the country, engaging a younger demographic.
    • Next Steps: Content development is ongoing, with educational consultants working alongside our marketing team to ensure alignment with school curricula. Distribution is planned for the start of summer break, with a potential tie-in to a contest where students can win Treasure Planet merchandise.

Current Roadblocks:

  1. International Marketing Delays
    • Issue: Our international marketing efforts are lagging behind schedule, particularly in terms of localizing trailers, posters, and other key materials for major foreign markets such as France, Germany, and Japan. These regions represent significant revenue potential, and delays in preparing these materials could impact the film's international box office performance.
    • Solution: We are reallocating resources to expedite the localization process, ensuring that translated materials are ready in time for early July. Additional translators and localization experts are being brought on board to meet the deadline.
  2. Interactive Website Launch Issues
    • Issue: Our planned promotional website, which will feature interactive games, character bios, and exclusive behind-the-scenes content, is facing significant technical difficulties. The current platform struggles to handle the planned interactive features, including 3D space maps and mini-games.
    • Solution: We are working with an external web development agency to resolve the technical issues and improve performance. A soft launch of the website is now targeted for late May, with full functionality expected by June.
  3. Radio Campaign Creative Direction
    • Issue: We are facing creative challenges with the radio ad campaign. Initial drafts were deemed too generic and failed to capture the adventure and wonder of Treasure Planet. The current messaging feels disconnected from the film's broader marketing tone.
    • Solution: We are revisiting the creative approach, focusing more on key character quotes and dynamic sound design that evokes space and adventure. A new round of script drafts is expected within the week, with recording sessions scheduled for late April.
  4. Tie-In Novel Delays
    • Issue: The young adult novelization of Treasure Planet, intended to be released alongside the film, is currently behind schedule due to editorial delays. This book is a key part of our strategy to reach younger audiences and enhance the world-building of the film.
    • Solution: We have brought in additional editorial resources to assist the author and ensure the novel is ready for publication in July. We are also coordinating with our distribution partners to ensure the book hits store shelves on time.
  5. NASA Partnership Delays
    • Issue: Bureaucratic hurdles within NASA have slowed the approval process for our planned educational collaboration. While both sides are enthusiastic, the formal agreements and approvals required have caused delays, jeopardizing our timeline for launching the educational content.
    • Solution: We are drafting a formal proposal with a clear timeline and deliverables to expedite the approval process. Additional meetings with NASA representatives are scheduled for early May to finalize the partnership.
  6. Merchandising Overload Concerns
    • Issue: Feedback from retail partners suggests there may be concerns about oversaturation of Treasure Planet merchandise in stores, particularly with the large volume of products planned for release simultaneously. Retailers are worried that too much product on shelves at once could dilute sales and create confusion among consumers.
    • Solution: We are adjusting our product release schedule to stagger the introduction of merchandise over several months. This will allow for a more measured rollout and prevent product overload in stores, ensuring a better balance for both retailers and consumers.
  7. Budget Overruns for Outdoor Events
    • Issue: Costs for the planned outdoor preview events have exceeded initial projections. Factors include increased demand for security, venue rental fees, and promotional material costs. Without additional budget adjustments, we may be forced to scale back these events.
    • Solution: We are exploring alternative, lower-cost venues and working with event partners to reduce non-essential expenses. Negotiations are also underway with sponsors to help cover part of the additional costs. If successful, we can maintain the original scope of the events.

Please let me know if you require further information or clarification.

Yours sincerely,
Mrs. Beatrix Potter
Head of the Marketing Division

Well, I am doing it because we have enough money to do so, Magoose greenlighted it and the sooner we get some of these IPs the better... Nothing more nothing less...

And honestly, since we started buying IPs, companies, and distribution rights in the previous upgrade turn I don't see any problem with getting some adaptation rights...
I never liked that series, if possible I'd like to pass it for another like The Chronicles of Amber whose books would allow us to make some amazing TV Series or films.
Por que no los dos?

Dammit I thought that the Never Ending Story was released in 1986-87, so I thought we had time to do it ourselves...
They're cool, but it's not a priority.
I disagree, Herge will die this year, and the guys who were appointed to manage Tintin are infamously difficult to work with...
... Can we truly own it all? I heard the rights were a mess
That is why we have one of the greatest legal teams available, let's have them sort that mess...
I'm still surprised that no one has bought them yet.
That is one of the reasons I decided to try and get some of these IPs, we have had stuff like this available for over 100 turns and we have not even tried to get it...
The first two books of the Belgariad series came out in 82. We'd have to wait till 84 for the story to be over but it's a damn good book series that'd be good for film or a tv series.
Good idea, I was also considering going after Dragonriders of Pern, Hitchicker Guide for the Galaxy, and Chronicles of Earthsea

Does the revenue we got from star wars account for today's inflation or is it the money worth during that time? If it is then Star Wars earned more money than Avatar with a lesser Budget.

Cross-Promotion with Burger King
  • Overview: As part of a nationwide collaboration, Burger King will feature Treasure Planet-themed Happy Meal toys, including miniatures of the RLS Legacy ship, Jim's solar surfer, and character figurines.
Cool Omake, but unless something wonky happened, I'm pretty sure Burger King doesn't do Happy Meals

When it's time to create Sonic the Hedgehog we should have a conversation to discuss what to include into the lore without bogging down the thread. Like including the Freedom Fighters after the series has progressed past simple sidescrollers.

Big Siblings Sarah and Joseph
Big Siblings Sarah and Joseph

Joseph O'Brian had a big problem. His Mommy was getting fat! Joseph started to notice this change when they were on vacation and he walked into his parents cuddling on the couch of their French house, with Carrie's belly exposed and looking slightly bigger than usual.

While Joseph didn't think much of it at the time, when he returned he observed that his Aunt Cat had developed a big round belly, like she ate a basketball. His cousin Bruce said he didn't like how Aunt Cat was too tired or was too big to play lots of games with him anymore, and that set Joseph into a panic when he remembered his mother. When Daddy was gone, Mommy was the one who played catch and sports, and Joseph wanted his playtime!

To test and see if she was truly getting big, Joseph after waking up from a nap walked into the living room where Mommy was laying on the couch and scratching Natalie next to her while Mary and Sarah watched Flintstones on the Kermit Box. Joseph walked up to his mother and held his arms out. "Mommy up!"

Carrie smiled at her son's request and lifted Joseph onto the couch. She thought her son wanted to snuggle with her but was surprised when he scooched down and focused his hands on her stomach, rubbing at patting it which made her tickle.

"Joseph, you silly goose." Carrie said with a laugh, while her son continued to perform the tests with concentration. After determining that he was right, Joseph yelled for Bruce. "Daddy!"

Carrie was slightly disappointed that Joseph was being a Daddy's boy again while Bruce walked in from the restroom, "Yes Joe?"

Joseph then pointed an accusatory finger at Carrie. "Mommy Fat!"

Bruce started laughing hard at history repeating itself, though he silenced at a deathly stare from Carrie. Sarah looked back to her brother in confusion, while Mary with her excellent memory recalled when she made a similar statement, gasping and then squealing with glee.

"Mommy, you pregnant?!" Mary yelled in happiness.

"What preg-nat?" Sarah asked Mary.

"It means Mommy having a baby!" Mary informed, the twins getting real excited about this announcement.

Carrie sighed and sat up. She and Bruce had known for weeks but didn't say anything so as not to raise a fuss on vacation. She had planned to tell the kids tommorrow, but it appears that Joseph and Mary had spoiled a surprise. "Come here girls." She requested.

Mary and Sarah climbed on top of Fort Couch while Bruce settled himself in a chair to the right of them to face his kids.

"Yes, I am having a baby. So in six months, you'll have a little brother or sister." Carrie informed.

"Like Ginger kittens?" Sarah asked, with Tigger coincidentally walking across the top of the couch.

"Yes, like Ginger kittens." Carrie explained, and then got puzzled when Sarah started to pout and tear.

"No watch, wanna play with baby!" Sarah complained.

With memories of many days Sarah spent in dutiful and longing watch, Carrie quickly got the meaning. "Babies are different then kittens Sarah, you can touch and spend time with your sibling when they're born." Carrie said, with Sarah nodding weakly.

"But you can't hold or play much Sarah. Babies lots of work and need time to grow." Mary emphasized.

"WHAT?!" Sarah yelled in concern, while Joseph looked very confused at the explanations.

"Sarah, you can interact with your sibling and Mommy isn't gonna keep them away from you like Ginger did with the Kittens." Bruce said.

"Yeah, Mommy's smart and knows who her babies will be." Mary affirmed.

"Babies just need time to grow and learn before you can play with them lots. You two were the same with Mary."

"I had to wait FOREVER!" Mary said dramatically, making Bruce and Carrie smile.

"At least now the three of you have each other and you got the kittens. It won't be bad Sarah, it'll be a good time." Carrie promised.

"Okay." Sarah said. At that moment, Lamington jumped in front of Sarah who grabbed her cat and hugged firmly. Those weeks where she could only watch Lamington were the worst of her young life. Sarah loved Lamington and it was so tough not being able to be with her, she didn't want to repeat such messiness with her sibling.

"Mommy, is baby brother?" Joseph asked.

"No, sister!" Sarah responded.

"Brother!"

"Sister!"

"We don't know yet, but whether it's a boy or girl, we'll love them just the same and they'll love you so much." Carrie promised.

"Mommy, where baby?" Joseph asked.

"In my belly. That's why it's big Joseph, not because I'm fat." Carrie stressed.

Joseph crawled to Carrie and put his hands on her belly once more. "How?" He asked simply.

Sarah gasped, "You eat Baby?!"

Bruce and Carrie gave each other a knowing look, here they went again.

The next day, Mary called out to Joseph and Sarah in the morning. "Littles!"

Joseph came first into her room, somewhat close to a run as he usually liked to when excited with Tigger racing him. Sarah was slower with Lamington prancing and going to her brothers.

"I no little Mary, I big!" Sarah protested. Indeed, her and Joseph were growing quickly and she was only six inches shorter than Mary.

"I'm older and taller, so I am the big girl and you two are the littles." Mary confirmed, with Sarah pouting in response.

"Why call Mary?" Joseph asked.

"Because as the Big Girl, I shall teach you two how to be good big littles to the baby, like how I learned, all on my own." Mary said proudly. She then retrieved her two baby dolls and gave them to the twins. "This is Katie, that's George." Mary said to Sarah and Joseph respectively. "I teach you how to help, so Mommy and Daddy have easy hard work."

"I help Lamington, I good carer." Sarah said.

"Me too!" Joseph added.

While the twins weren't exactly fully capable of tending to all their cat's needs, they did genuinely try their best like guiding them to the bathroom when they needed, helping with exercise and play, helping to wash when needed and being good companions.

"Babies are different from kittens, they are lots of hard work and need support." Mary said, remembering her aid in helping the twins when Bruce had his rough moments after the break-in. "You gotta learn the basics so Mommy and Daddy don't have stress. You love Mommy, Daddy right?"

"Yes." Both the twins said.

"Then learn and be good big littles. Especially you Joseph, don't ignore me this time!" Mary said with a pointed finger and hard stare at Joseph.

"What?" Joseph asked in confusion, not remembering his defiance of Mary's speech lessons.

For the next hour until breakfast, Mary did her best to instruct the twins in child rearing. They didn't get it perfect, with Sarah having trouble doing the correct holding position and Joseph being a bit rough in play by rocking his doll too fast and using him like an action figure, but both twins showed an earnestness and wanted to improve, finding the house game to be a little fun and growing more eager for a sibling.

Later in November, the O'Brians were eating a spaghetti dinner when Bruce and Carrie shared some happy news.

"So, great news everyone. Mommy and I found out whether your going to have a brother or sister, and we named them." Bruce said.

There were lots of happy cries at the table. "Which is it?" Debbie asked.

"Wait, Grandma, this is a special announcement. We gotta drum roll." Mary said, with her drumming her hands on the table. Sarah joined cutely with her best pats on her high chair, though things got out of hand when Joseph was smacking his plate hard with sauce flying and the plate threatening to crack.

"Alright, alright, that's enough!" Bruce warned. Mary groaned and frowned at Joseph who was laughing as Bruce quickly cleaned his hands. "You do the honors Carebear."

"Well my little Goslings, you are going to have a baby brother named...George Michael O'Brian." Carrie announced happily. While it wouldn't have been her first idea for a name, she grew to like it since Bruce had picked it and was happy when imagining George playing with the kids.

"Yay, Brother!" Joseph said happily, clapping at the news.

Mary was also gushing at the news, thinking that her parents had named George after her doll, and completely forgetting about her uncle George.

As for Sarah, the middle Gosling frowned and slouched, whispering "Bother" though no one picked up on her emotions at the moment for the celebration.

Fortunately, Carrie noticed her daughter's forlorn expression a half a minute after delivering the news, "What's wrong Sarah?"

"Wanna be big sister." Sarah protested.

"But you are a big sister Sarah. You're Joseph's big sister and will be George's big sister." Carrie corrected.

"No!" Sarah shouted, surprising the family as Sarah was usually mild-mannered. "Be big sister with little sister, like Mary!" Sarah protested, a distraught look displayed on her face.

"Want George!" Joseph countered, fearful that somehow his parents would give into her demands and not have George.

"Joe, be nice." Bruce warned, then turned his attention to Sarah. "Sarah, we would love for you to have a little sister, but right now we're having George. You'll still be a big sister, you are one now, and George is gonna love you so much." Bruce said kindly.

"Bother." Sarah said glumly, then smacked her plate of spaghetti weakly.

For the rest of the night, the family tried to make Sarah happy with Mary willing to let her have Kermit O'Brian for the night, drawing sessions, and watching her favorite show on the Kermit Box. While these and the constant companionship helped to keep Sarah calm, she was still upset about not getting a sister and in somewhat of a dour state most of the next day.

In the next afternoon, Sarah sought to distract herself by drawing pictures of whatever she wanted. It was an okay time, especially with Lamington distracting Sarah with cuddles, but her mind wandered to having a sister with her drawing the situation on a few pages.

The door opened and Sarah turned in curiosity, with a coal black Scottish fold darting in. Lamington arose excited and the two played with each other happily in a tussle.

Sarah was alert as that cat's entrance could only mean one thing.

"Hi Sarah." Sarah's cousin Sarah greeted, (Mary liked to say their parents were a bit lazy with names) and walked into her room.

"Hi cousin Sarah." Sarah said, waving with Sarah Powell walking over and hugging Sarah which she returned.

"Why here? Is not Sunday." Said Sarah, as a lot of times their families would meet for lunch after Church.

"Aunt Carrie wanted us over to say hi to George." Cousin Sarah said, producing a frown on little Sarah's face. "She also said you're a little sad about not having a little sister."

"Want little sister, why Mommy mean?" Sarah protested.

"Aunt Carrie didn't choose to have a boy, God chose so." Cousin Sarah answered.

"Why Jesus?!" Sarah shouted to the small crucifix above her door.

Sarah Powell sighed. She was so used to dealing with Mary who was super intelligent and either at a similar level or smarter than her, that Sarah and Joseph being normal threw her for a loop. What she didn't share was that part of the reason Carrie invited her in-laws was she wanted some help for Sarah, as Sarah Powell herself was in a similar situation.

Cousin Sarah sat down and got on a similar level to Sarah. The cats quit playing with both approaching either side of Sarah. "Sarah, why are you sad that you won't have a little sister?"

"Be big sister like Mary. Little Sister, have fun, be cool." Sarah tried to explain.

What Sarah was feeling but her mind couldn't exactly frame as a two year old was a classic case of middle child syndrome. Mary was the coolest and the big sister that Sarah looked up to, so Sarah tried to be like her, especially cause Mary got lots of praise and attention for being herself. However, while she was a big sister, Joseph didn't treat her like one, a situation made all the more difficult by Joseph being taller than her.

It was not as if Sarah didn't want another brother as she loved Joseph, but she specifically wanted a sister so she could replicate the relationship that Mary had with her, this time Sarah being the big girl who did the cool things and was looked up to. Sarah was also not consciously aware at this time, but deep down she felt it hard to grab attention to the family when her sister was a genius and her brother was a sports prodigy. But with a little sister, she could look up to Sarah.

"Joseph can do that." Sarah Powell said.

"I not Joseph big. I big for little sister." Sarah countered.

"And you can be with baby George." Sarah Powell said, with Sarah looking doubtful at her statement. The elder Sarah sighed, "At least you have a sister Sarah, I'm just gonna have brothers."

"Huh?" Sarah said in confusion. "Why not?"

"Because Mom is gonna give birth to Ryan next month and Dad said she's a bit old to try for more babies and it might hurt if they try again. So I'm just gonna have Bruce and Ryan as brothers."

Sarah gasped. She didn't understand many concepts of biology and hearing her parents talk of a big Gosling flock, she just assumed parents could have as many babies as they could. At least no matter what, Sarah had a sister with Mary.

Sarah hugged her older cousin, with Sarah Powell reciprocating in thanks. "It's okay Sarah. I was sad for a bit, but I like having Bruce and Ryan will probably be fun. I'm still a big sister."

"Bruce see Big Sarah, not little?" Sarah tried to ask.

"He does what I say and he asks for help a lot, and I like teaching him things and showing him new stuff." Sarah Powell tried her best to answer. "It's not a bad thing to only have brothers. Everyone else in your family does Sarah."

Sarah thought hard and she realized her cousin was right. Mommy only had Uncle Todd, Grandma Uncle Bill, Cat Daddy and Uncle Gavin, and Aunt Susan and Grandpa Grandma had no one. But they were still pretty happy. It looked like Sarah was really lucky.

"Besides, I have you and Mary, so I guess you're kind of like my little sisters." Sarah Powell said.

This also made Sarah think. She didn't have any other female cousins besides Sarah, but she did have Amanda Lucas. Amanda was younger than Sarah and looked up to her and followed her around when their families played. Then Sarah remembered.

"Amanda, Godsister." Sarah shouted, so she did have a sister of sorts after all.

"There you go Sarah, everything's fine and baby George will be good."

Sarah hugged her cousin, "Tanks Sarah for happy talk." This made Sarah Powell smile, feeling like she really did have a little sister.

A few minutes later, Sarah walked out her room and waddled to the living room, where the two families where conversing. Both Bruce and Carrie greeted their middle child and were curious on how she was feeling.

Sarah raised her arms with Bruce lifting her onto Fort Couch, with Sarah then crawling over to hug Carrie's belly. "Hi George, I Sarah."

"Mommy!" Joseph called from the living room. It was his turn to have the living room Kermit Box, and he would make good use of it by putting on the Lakers, his Mommy's team.

Carrie walked in slowly, feeling some of the classic back aches from pregnancy return recently. At least she only had one Gosling this time and not two. "Yes Joe?" Carrie asked sweetly.

"Watch Basketball." Joseph requested.

Carrie had been intending on spending the evening reading a book, but she didn't mind watching her Lakers dominate the court. She was curious that Joseph was asking her. "Do you want to wait for Daddy?" Carrie asked, as Bruce was currently washing Natalie.

While Carrie knew that Joseph loved her, and he was a very affectionate child daily, he was also a Daddy's boy and wore it on his sleeve with Bruce being his first choice for games, sports, food and fun; nevermind that Bruce was the person that Joseph chose his first steps and words for.

Thus, Carrie was surprised when Joseph shook his head. "Not Daddy, want you."

Carrie smiled brightly at the statement, gushing in joy that Joseph asked for her first. "Okay Joseph, let's watch the game together." Joseph was happy as he got onto the couch with assistance from his mother and settled in, snuggling under a blanket with Carrie to watch the Lakers play the Bulls.

To Joseph, there were two reasons why he wanted to watch the game with Carrie instead of Bruce. Firstly, while Bruce was fun with sports, Carrie knew best about Basketball and she was the owner of the Lakers team. As such, it was fun for Joseph to watch with his mother considering Carrie could share lots of fun stories about the players and was smart about the game, so Joseph learned a lot of stuff with his mother and when the Lakers won, Mommy won, so it was a good time.

Secondly, Joseph had just learned that apparently babies when in the belly like to listen and watch what their mommy liked. Mary had shared with him and Sarah earlier that babies grew up smart from listening music in the belly. It didn't make too much sense admittedly since Carrie didn't listen to much music when she had Mary, but Mary wanted to help guide George by playing not only classical music, but Muppets music so George would like the muppets. Sarah also did her best to help by doing drawings so George would like them by proxy.

As for Joseph, he hoped that if he watched lots of sports games with Carrie, that George would be as passionate as he was about sports. Mary and Sarah liked sports, especially the Lakers, but they didn't LOVE sports like Joseph. Though admittedly Mary loved martial arts, but Joseph was confused on if it was a sport because no one wore jerseys.

So Joseph hugged Carrie and cheered for him and George when the Lakers did well, being very eager and excited to meet his baby brother.

Shortly after New years, Bruce woke up one morning to the sweet sound of Carrie giggling. He opened his eyes, expecting to see his beautiful and beloved wife, and was surprised by red-coated rear in his face, tale smacking him lightly. Blinking and slowly rising, Bruce found that Ginger was sitting between him and Carrie, watching the source of Carrie's giggles, the kittens licking at Carrie's pregnant belly like a scoop of ice cream.

"Should I be concerned that my wife is being treated as an all you can eat buffet for the kittens?" Bruce asked.

Carrie laughed at the statement, "I don't know what's gotten into them. About ten minutes ago, Alfred jumped on and woke me up with some kisses, and then Lamington and Tigger joined in."

"And Ginger?"

"Oh she's just watching for now, but last night she kept on nuzzling my belly while you were in the shower."

"Are you rubbing catnip on your stomach?" Bruce asked. Though it was a semi-serious question with how concentrated the kittens were on Carrie.

"No, they just really can't wait to meet George. It's weird, Ginger wasn't like this with Mary or the twins."

"Woof."

Bruce turned to his right and saw a jealous Natalie standing at attention, ears drooping and puppy eyes on display in jealousy of the kittens hogging Carrie's attention.

"Up Natty." Bruce requested with Natalie jumping on top of the bed and laying on top of Bruce with Bruce scratching her ears and giving her a kiss on the forehead.

"Why you always act like we never love ya?" Bruce said sweetly, receiving some licks in return.

"Mommy! Why you stealing Fred?"

On a rainy day in February, Sarah was passing the time inside by coloring in a Disney princess book. She absolutely loved the Disney books that her Aunt Cat brought her. They had beautiful drawings and it was great practice with Sarah on how to do colors. The phone rang, but Sarah didn't pay it much mind as Carrie who was laying on the sopha answered.

"Hello? Oh hi Susan." Carrie answered. Sarah perked her head up, thinking it was her Aunt Susan, though she continued her coloring with one open ear.

"It's gonna be a girl, oh that's wonderful. What's her name?" Carrie asked. That really grabbed Sarah's attention, as she remembered over Christmas her Uncle and Aunt saying they were gonna have a baby.

Sarah dragged a pillow and used it to climb on top of Fort Couch, then crawled over to Carrie. "Cousin?" Sarah asked.

Carrie smiled at her middle child, "Yes Sarah, Aunt Susan and Uncle Gavin are having a baby girl. Hannah O'Brian." Carrie announced.

At that, Sarah was really excited and extended her hands out, "Mommy, phone!" Sarah requested.

"Hold on Susan, Sarah wants to say hi."

"Hi Sarah, how's my favorite two year old niece?" Susan asked kindly.

"Aunt Susan, have baby girl?!" Sarah asked in excitement, practically yelling into receiver.

"Yep, Hannah. She won't be due until the Summer, but I can feel her kicking with excitement to see her cousins."

"Can I be Hannah big sister? Please Aunt Susan." Sarah pleaded.

"Sure, I think Hannah would love to have you as a big sister." Susan said warmly.

Sarah smiled widely, whenever Amanda came over, she did her best to be a big girl for Amanda to look up to, and true enough her godsister did with Amanda following Sarah and looking to her for inspiration on how to play games and have fun. Now Sarah would have two little sisters of sorts, even if she just had Joseph and George as littles for now.

All was fine in the world.

On March 14th, 1983, George Michael O'Brian would be born, another Gosling added to the world.

At the hospital, Joseph and Sarah waited patiently in the waiting room with their grandmother, Sarah doing her best to read a sesame street book on her own while Joseph was fascinated with a bead table and was guiding the different colored beads along the various paths.

Both the twins were a bit nervous when Carrie shared that she was having George right now, but their young age meant that they were also unaware of any potential danger, so the experience was more boring than anything with them really wanting to see their parents again. With Joseph in particular, his primary concern was George getting born before night time so he could watch the Geese play Monday Night football.

The twins' leisure was broken by the entrance of Mary, who was running and panting with excitement. "Did I miss it?" She asked Debbie, with Todd following her as he picked up Mary from pre-school.

"You're right on time Mary, any minute your Daddy is gonna take you all to see George." Debbie answered.

Mary then went to her siblings in concern, "Are you okay littles? Was it scary?" Remembering vividly when she watched Carrie go into labor.

"What scary?" Sarah asked in curiosity.

"It's okay Mary. Your Mommy had an easier time with George and she wasn't in a lot of pain." Debbie comforted. Although even if Carrie was in high pain, the twins probably wouldn't have noticed as Joseph was deep into a nap while Sarah was watching Scooby-Doo at a high volume.

"So she safe?" Mary asked, to which Debbie nodded and the eldest Gosling breathed a great sigh of relief.

"Safe?" Asked Sarah in confusion, worry starting to pop up.

Fortunately Bruce popped in at that moment, the Goslings swarming their Dad with joy. "Your brother George is born and is very healthy, and so is Mommy." Bruce informed, making Mary very relieved.

Bruce escorted his kids to the restroom so they could wash their hands, with the Goslings then heading to a room where they found Carrie sitting, tired and sweaty but happy and well, holding a blue blanket in her arms, though a shift revealed it wasn't just a blanket, but a bundle carrying a very pink baby.

"Come say hi to George kids." Carrie requested softly. Bruce plopped the twins low on the bed on either side of Carrie while Mary dragged a chair so she could sit up and see George while giving Carrie some space.

The kids said hi, happy at the sight of their baby brother. Mary gave a quiet lecture on how to be good big siblings with a newborn, though Sarah and Joseph paid little attention as they were both fascinated with the bundle, each requesting Carrie to hold George.

With George done feeding, Carrie positioned him to face his siblings with George squirming and eyes opening, revealing beautiful blue eyes that were as blue as the ocean.

"Lamington Eyes!" Sarah squealed, this moment reminder her of the very special time she saw Lami be born into the world, and this time she didn't have to stay away because Mommy was smart and wouldn't forget her baby like Ginger could.

This moment seemed just as perfect. However, instead of mewling and nuzzling Sarah like Lami did, George took a confused look at all of the new people in the room, and yelled and cried as loud as he could, his little lungs dominating the room with his screams.

"Why George cry?" Joseph asked. Meanwhile, Mary adopted a look of dread as the twins had been calm when she first met them and while they cried, they were nowhere near as loud.

"Are we bad?" Sarah asked in concern.

Carrie shook her head, "No Sarah, he's just getting used to the world and that's his way of saying hi. He'll calm down, just has to get settled."

"I've got a bad feeling about this." Mary said, quoting her parents from Star Wars.

Bruce chuckled and kissed the top of Mary's head, "Don't be silly Mary, George isn't going to cry all the time. I'm sure he'll be just as calm as you three."

Many crying days and nights later would prove him to be wrong.

Roll Out!
Roll Out!

"From a line of toys designed to enhance the earnings for a different animation project, to its own franchise that spawned everything from cartoons, to comics to live action films, without even mentioning the different types of merchandise like lunchboxes, backpacks, cereals, vitamins, clothing lines and costumes. This is the tale of the Transformers, the famous toy line whose meteoric rise dominated children's minds and Christmas lists for the entire 80s and beyond, proving that indeed, they were more than meets the eye.

"(...) The Transformers owe their origins to a young man by the name of Shōji Kawamori, anime creator, screenwriter and mecha designer. Born in Japan in 1960, and going to Keio University during the 70s, young Shōji showed an early passion for design and animation, creating a club with his friends during their college years and preparing for a career as an intern at Studio Nue. Desitny however would change his plans when he happened to run into Yoshiyuki Tomino, quite literally at that, and scattering many of his drawings and designs for his club's meeting. Tomino, a man who recognized both talent and opportunity whenever he chanced upon it, offered him an internship on the spot to work with him on his newest project...

"(...) Shōji Kawamori worked in both Gundam Projects in DreamWorks, yet also made sure to expand on his repertoire by working alongside the different projects of the studio, being in animation with Noboru's hit 'Pacific Rim' or when working alongside the more western style of animation in 'Classical Tales' and 'John Henry: Man of Steel'. At the same time, in order to finish his education, he applied and was granted the opportunity to study his final year of College at Caltech University, where thanks to the tutoring and tips from the fellow graduates now working in DreamWorks, he was able to make for an impressive showing for one entering so late in their years...

"(...) Inspired by both 'Space Battleship Yamato' and 'Gundam', Shōji envisioned a new anime which would combine both the epic travels of a single space battleship and its odyssey through space, along with Gundam's modular mech designs, with original plans to name it the ''Macbeth', but having to change the name later on to 'Macross' as a compromise, and because the name sounded similar to the original name. There was some push to call the series 'Robotech' as well, but that was a step to far for Shōji, though the name eventually stuck for the technology that was discovered and used in the series...

"(...) In order to get Michael Eisner's interest on 'Macross', Shōji Kawamori put in a proof of concept for the idea of transforming vehicles into robots. Originally to propose a toy line based on Veritechs and mechas from the Anime, Shōji also showed the success of the 'Diaclone' line in Japan, along with some different models that he'd created based on transforming vehicles of different types. While some might have called it going above and beyond what was necessary, it was these toys the one's that drew Eisner's attention, always on the lookout for more opportunities for merchandise, following the success of the G.I. Joe franchise and how it was making million for Hasbro once the comic and TV Show had begun airing, Eisner saw the 'Transformers' as Lucasfilm's and Sunset Toys' chance to make bank as well...

"Taking the designs and making them available during the merchandise run after Macross made its debut in 1982, it soon gained a life of its own, with children who went in to buy their Veritech toys were soon begging their parents for more of the toys now on display, with cars, planes, cassettes, ambulances, etc. all kinds of ordinary toys that could also turn into robots to fight against each other. Though the Macross toys were selling in popularity, it was the new Transformers who had taken the youth by storm, with a demand for more only growing by the day...

"(...) Michael Eisner contacted Jim Shooter for the creation of a new comic line for the Transformers in 1983, in the same vein that he'd been given the task for the G.I. Joe line. Originally wishing to put the Transformers in the main Marvel 616 Universe, Eisner prevailed and insisted to bring in the Transformers for the Eclipse Imprint, in order to emphasize the Japanese influence, seeing the growing interest in all kinds of Japanese imports, and the popularity of Toriyama's own 'Dr. Slump' series, not knowing how his future work would take the entire world by storm by next year...

"(...) For the Transformers first comic, Jim Shooter originally put Dennis O'Neil, a polarizing figure in comics, known as both the man who depowered Wonder Woman, and who influenced most of DC's turn to a more contemporary setting, his first draft was rejected, though he was credited for giving the name of "Optimus Prime" to the Autobots' leader. Seeing the need for a more fresh perspective, yet also with the right mindset for what they hoped the Transformers to be, Jim Shooter this time brought in veteran artists Simon Furman from 'SP//dr: Amazing Armored Hero' title, and partnered him up with a recent addition to the Eclipse Imprint, Masami Yuki to aid in the drawing and art...

"Simon Furman had been drawing for 'SP//dr: Amazing Armored Hero' for near 3 years now, and was ready to tackle in a new series where he could bring in his new ideas as to how the toy line would evolve and start from. Many of his ideas, bringing in a more mythological beginning for the Transformers with both Primus and Unicron would be later adapted for the animated TV Series, combining with the 'Quintesson' origin of the third season. As for Masami Yuki, he was a regular Mangaka who'd decided to try his luck in America like Toriyama before him, working on different titles for the Eclipse Imprint, the Transformers would be the first title where he would have the greatest influence when it came to art, as well as to get his inspiration for his future Eclipse title "Patlabor" which would go on to create its own franchise...

"(...) The initial response to the comics was electric with it becoming one of the leading titles of the Eclipse Imprint, with stories that varied from the episodic where the Autobots would have to deal with regular issues like fighting for Energon against the Decepticons, to a more serialized adventure where their secret was to be revealed to humanity and they needed to find a way to stop it. Transformers during this period of time was in a flux in trying to find their identity, but stand out characters like Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream and Bumblebee soon gained the heart of boys and teens everywhere...

"(...) With the quick success of the comics, a cartoon went into production soon after. The main issue came when both DreamWorks and Hannah-Barbera Studios began a silent battle between them over who would get to work on the project. DreamWorks claiming that their previous experience with the G.I. Joe Franchise, and having the creator of the Toy Line working for them would let them work in with a clearer knowledge of the Canon and their greater experience and quality allowing for a better product to be delivered. On the other side, Hannah-Barbera was coming out of a decade long rut where they finally were being seen as no longer the "Sick man of Animation" but a force to be reckoned with. Many of their animators dreamed of working on more prestigious and serialized stories, which Transformers was perfect for. The involvement of Bruce O'Brian was necessary, especially when Shōji Kawamori declined on working for the title as he was more focused on the sequel to the 'Macross' saga, from which he had recently gained new inspiration for...

"(...) By 1984 the Transformers Series made its debut in LucasTV, becoming a hit and a flagship for the entire network along with G.I. Joe as one of the best produced and innovative cartoons based on already existing toy franchises. The animation was gorgeous as one would expect, and the VA talent with voices like Peter Cullen, Frank Welker, Casey Kasem and Alan Oppenheimer among others made Transformers seven season run among one of the most entertaining and ingenious stories ever told. Much of its success can be laid at the feet of the main developers who worked previously in the comics and thus had a firm foundation from which to work on the storyline, while also allowing the departure from it in order to bring in new characters and Canon; such as the creation of the Dinobots, Megatron turning into Galvatron, and the passing of the torch from Optimus Prime to Rodimus Prime near the end of Season 6...

"(...) Transformers was not only a hit in America, but also a hit overseas as the distribution in Japan made it another example of American made 'Anime' for Japan, with the toy line increasing in popularity. Diaclone tried to sue Lucasfilms claiming infringement of their IP, though the case was dismissed a year into it when shown that while inspired by the toys, it did not copy nor took anything from them directly. Diaclone would counter by creating their own Anime of their line...

"(...) Transformers had a ripple effect mostly for the careers of Masami Yuki, who went on to create his own series 'Patlabor' which would become another beloved franchise for both the Eclipse Imprint and Sunrise Studios. The more serious tone and storyline from Transformers also convinced Mangaka Go Nagai into giving Sunrise the chance to make an adaptation in 1991 of his new entry into the 'Getter Robo' universe, thus making a direct sequel to the 70s anime series known as 'Getter Robo Go', considered the darkest entry of the entire line.

A.N.: When making it so that we could produce the Transformers series and comics, I found that there was not that much difficulty there; we basically own Marvel where the first comics came from, we have a new Imprint that can take advantage of the growing popularity of the Japanese influences, and we have two studios that would fight to get to work in said project (though I'm not sure yet which of them should work on it).

Can we have Megatron be Optimus's friend before enemies as for like an idea about Peter Collin brother (the inspiration for Optimus personally and voice) is a twisted parallel of what Peter saw his brother as became corrupted from a bad system and also a metaphor for how communist leaders who uprise against the government become the same as those they fought against
