Brockton's Celestial Forge (Worm/Jumpchain)

Is Sabah over-reading Joe as some sort of crazy stalker or did he actually enter creepy guy zone with her in college?
We don't have true unbiased perspectives here, although Joe has enough clarity/mental augment powers he's certainly a fair bit closer.

From my read of it, both of them were behaving within normally acceptable social bounds at the time of the trigger and lacked any malice but were badly misreading each other/the situation. Exacerbated by poor communication (slash Sabah potentially being afraid that he'd turn her into a skin suit if she did more than subtly keeping him at a distance) and Joe's own social/family background being particularly bad for picking up on that kind of thing.

I'll be honest, I really don't like Sabah in this fic, It isn't really fair because she's like that because of trauma, but I really dislike her main character syndrome... Like, the paranoid way she treated both Garmet and the Elite, thinking that they are planning to box her, or the way she treats Joe's own problems as if they aren't as important as her own...

Again, I know it isn't fair considering everything, but her attitude just get on my nerves.

Oh, and nice chapter!

Sabah felt her breathing grow shallow again. Everyone, the entire room, and possibly everyone connected to them, was against her on this. Her desperate gamble had not only failed, it had left her in a worse situation. Everyone against her, heading for isolation, and once again, Jozef.
... Joe couldn't social his way out of a paper bag, but girl, that was ALL you
he said hi, bye and she tried to end a career because of it. down with Parian!

So seeing a lot of speculation about that being close to a second trigger but isn't Parian's trigger her dad dying, not the stuff that happened at college?

I seem to remember reading somewhere that natural triggers can't 'move on' from trigger trauma, so that their shard always has a hook. Some of Sabah's thought processes feel disjointed in their logic, like a toddler putting everything in the square hole because it fits if you finangle it. Interesting to see how this works out.

Collage stuff was the build up, her dad's death was the coup de grace. For her to second trigger, a similar build up would have to happen, then someone close to her would have to die.

Holy damn, the writing is as impeccable as always ofcourse.

But this whole chapter felt like a chronically sick elephant just exploded with diarrhea all over Parian/Sabah. Again. And again. And likely more to come. Jeez mate, you must really despise this character lol

Sabah doesn't have issues, she has subscriptions. Never mind being Arabic, Muslim, a lesbian and living in the white supremacist hate crime capital of North America. She also has the same sort of 'i shouldn't do this with my power' issues Panacea has.

Parian's shard is [Golemcraft]. It can work with synthetic fabrics (ugh). It's happier with natural fibers like cotton, wool or silk (meh).

But it REALLY likes to play with formerly living tissue. Leather, sinew and bone. Her power wants her to be Frankenstein. (IT'S ALIVE!)

I don't think Lord dislikes Parian, however he does present her much like every other parahuman. Broken and deeply warped by their trigger. Sabah just came face to face with someone she despises no longer thinks about in any way and due to her paranoia, which is a part of her character even before her trigger, assumes the worst and begins to act on it.

Is Joe one of the people of interest that the PRT suspects is apart of the forge or is it just survey and fleet? If so this could get them looking closely at both of them.

I think this might have been the most canon friendly Parian I've seen in ages. People tend to play her off as the lesbian costume cape but all my memories of her canon screen time were of her being paranoid and prickly. The only time she isn't is while she is falling for that cute (underage) Ward (IE: Lilly) who keeps coming to talk to her.

Now sure her canon situation is absolutely worse then here given (IIRC) her first appearance is after Bonesaw Bonesaws a bunch of people in her area but her main character syndrome paranoia here does track pretty well with her canonical depiction.

We all have our talents, something that comes so easily to us, it's almost effortless. Want to know what Sabah's talents?

Self-sabotage. She just can't stop doing it.

Maybe she and Carol should come together and organize "Saboteur Anonymous" or something.

I thought that in their conversation before that Joe apologized for being creepy, as he was getting therapy and learned some social skills since then. And that he apologized to her, even if he did not expect anything and hoped they could move on with their lives? Or at least, that was the impression I got from everything.

Because this chapter makes me think of all the horror stories of women that found a guy creepy, rejected him in a painful manner... and then when they met up months/years later get highly offended when the guy apologizes for his actions and are clearly over the women and only want a professional relationship after they stumbled across each other by pure dumb luck, so she goes to HR to report him for [insert list of crimes he is automatically guilty for here].

First off: yay you're back!
Secondly: Condoleances to LR and others for thine loss.

Now, to the story.

She'd be seen as petty and vindictive. As a bitch trying to get back at someone who was innocent in their eyes.

No, you'd be seen as falsely accusing someone of sexual harassment, which is itself sexual harassment. This is felonies.

"Um, Sabah also mentioned that he was bothering one of the younger volunteers." She said. It felt uncomfortable to cite herself in the third person, but at least the dismissive attitude of the group faded away. "A girl named Aisha."
Jesus Christ! Accusing someone of being a peeophile just to get rid of them? What that might end up doing to the kid involved?! (if she didn't happen to be a member of the Forge :V ) Garment certainly understands what she tried to pull, she's having to restrain herself from lunging at Sabah!

Why is Survey being nice to this monster?! Should've let Fortune energy have its way and let Gully smite her unbothered.

On the one hand it's pragmatic to head off a Second Trigger, on the other hand, Parian should have her reputation demolished, she's doing Emma Barnes things - at age 20!

EDIT:
he'd turn her into a skin suit
The irony! The baleful irony!

Hey actually, since Pariah was actually coming close to a situation similar to her trigger and ever recived a boost in power... Doesnt that mean Survey noticed this? Since she can detect stuff like this.

I feel like getting close to a second trigger is something that would be noticable to Survey, even more so co sidering how close she was to Pariah.

You cant tell me she wouldnt have noticed anything.

There's a good chance she noticed it from both sides. The fork in shard-space may have seen something going on.

Again, really hoping Survey just walks up to Joe and says, 'Sabah is Pariah and you most likely were part of her trigger, your obssesion with the Unwritten rules is dumb and just let me nuke the nine dammit.'
