The Celestial Forge is rapidly approaching what Cauldron wishes it was, but also without compromising their morals.IMO the unifying purpose of the arc is less about those individual threads and more about the team's rapidly expanding subtle ops, as exemplified by the S9 not noticing they've already been rendered harmless.

Yeah... I'm generally of the opinion that Cauldron was an active negative to the kill Scion effort. I can't really think of even one thing that Cauldron worked on that actually helped that they didn't also undermine at some other point. The silver bullet was the combo of Taylor, Amy and Bonesaw jailbreaking her shard. Amy and Taylor are both from Brockton Bay where they specifically didn't interfere so they have basically no effect on that. Riley was in the s9 which they also don't do stuff with because Jack, while they did flip Riley it was one conversation and I question how much that actually did. Doormaker was integral but they also banned dimensional tech which I think would totally fill that hole. I honestly think that after killing Eden they had less impact on killing Scion than Grue. The forge reached that point ages ago because Cauldron can't give powers without a chance of death and disfigurement and everything they do to reduce but not eliminate it also weakens the power obtained. Lord has said before in wogs but even just the Call Beads would be enough to be a top tier cape and above their power gaining methods and that's without getting into the Call Gems or anything else.
Of course being better than cauldron is an extremely low bar in general given how they piled up a mountain of atrocities to build up options to use against scion only to not actually use the vast majority meaning worse than just being useless some of those options like the Fallen and the Yangban which they both set up and kept around actively raided, fought and stole from the fight scion effort. Even their whole thing about searching for a silver bullet is pointless because they had 3 Abaddon vials they were hoping to be them which they refused to use even when Scion had got into their base and was a single corridor away from reaching Eden's remains.
You remember wrong. Amy did it, Bonesaw did nothing. Weaver is not Khepri without Doormaker and Clairvoyant. The silver bullet was the combo of Taylor, Amy and Bonesaw jailbreaking her shard.
I thought Bonesaw was involved, specifically in them knowing it was possible? Anyway, I think that any sufficiently strong master could pacify the thralls. Enough different thinkers fills in for Clairvoyant. Interdimensional tinker tech fills Doormaker, which Cauldron banned because they thought some tinker might find them. I didn't say they didn't contribute, I just think that for everything they did they also have an equivalent thing they did the was a negative. They contributed, but only on the level of Grue because Grue didn't actively hurt the effort while trying to help. You remember wrong. Amy did it, Bonesaw did nothing. Weaver is not Khepri without Doormaker and Clairvoyant.
Also, Canary pacified her thralls.

Anyway, by better than Cauldron I more meant being the shadowy cabal pulling the strings from behind the scenes.
This is true to an extent. But the endbrighers are Cauldron's fault anyway. As for the existence of the Protectorate and PRT I actually don't see a reason for their existence, they could be perfectly filled by a parahuman arm of the already existing police and other government agencies. This is the whole point, while Cauldron did stuff and solved problems the vast majority of those problems were of their own creation or something that I question being a true problem to begin with.I'll confess that canon and fanon are really mixed up in my head but wasn't Cauldron responsible for the formation and administration of the Protectorate, Wards, and PRT? Endbringer responses? Social engineering and public relations regarding parahumans?
Cauldron sucked. But the Yangbang weren't an improvement. The implosion of the PRT and Protectorate after Noelle's clones exposed everything and Taylor murdered Alex, demonatrated that the previous organizations and social expectations had been doing something.
Compare to recent issues in the U.S.A with police. Lots of complaints of racism and corruption. But ask someone from Seattle what happens if the system is completely destroyed. 🤷♂️

Please check out the WOGs listed here on AO2, Lord has been patiently answering questions to the tone of almost 500k wordsAlright, I've read every single comment, reply, and piece of WOG posted by @LordRoustabout on AO3 & SV and compiled them into multiple Google Docs (I tried putting it all into one Doc, but my computer lagged so much trying to edit them that Docs actually crashed. Twice. So now they are multiple Docs). I also separated them into two versions, the version with just @LordRoustabout's Comments for those who want to quickly find a piece of WOG, and the version that also includes the posts he was replying to for Context. Note: Chapters 41+ With Context are currently under construction, and will be included upon completion.
Note: As of 5/19/2022, LordRoustabout Comments and WOG Without Context up to chapter 60 is complete. Work on 61+ is commencing. *Update: Now up to date with the latest chapter. With Context still out of date though.
Note: For Chapters 61 and onwards, the format of the AO3 sections have been changed to match that of the SV sections. I am too lazy to make those changes retroactive for 1-60, so just be aware of the change.
Note: Also for some reason, I can post Google Sheets as Media but not Google Docs? Don't know what that's about.
*Edit: Thanks to @The Shallow I managed to insert them as Media even if, for whatever reason, they insist on being very short vertically.
Why can't it be both, can't wait for Call Bead Aisha, would it render them invisible to the Shards(and Zion by extension, as well as other Earths[in the Worm cluster at least]) as well? (especially Broadcast, Simurgh and Master/Thinker capes solve S9 issue and test out call beads in one fell swoop[I know they're already protected, but even more so would be so cool!{Safeguard is going to be so happy<Actually Mr Laborn also has an dormant connection to Safeguard, what would cause a trigger in him, S9, Leviathan or Echidna>}])IMO the unifying purpose of the arc is less about those individual threads and more about the team's rapidly expanding subtle ops, as exemplified by the S9 not noticing they've already been rendered harmless.
The Celestial Forge is rapidly approaching what Cauldron wishes it was, but also without compromising their morals.
Anyway, by better than Cauldron I more meant being the shadowy cabal pulling the strings from behind the scenes.
Interesting, I'm hoping for a huge boost in their luck that leads to them acting out Shadow Garden from tEiS, like Cid, running a shadowy cabal(of cured C53s) without realising(I blame Chen).Regarding Cauldron, this thread debated the issue pretty extensively.
Why is Cauldron considered stupid evil (WORM)
I always see people dig at Caudron as failures and stupid evil but I never understood why? I get they had to do immoral things so they could save the world but the thing is that they helped Humanity survive. If Cauldron didn’t exist, or if Contessa sat on her ass the world would have ended when...forums.spacebattles.com
The main point is that Cauldron is comically inept. As in, it's not even funny anymore.
We're told that they were vital in upholding public order and shit like that, but that doesn't hold up to what we actually see.
Whatever good Cauldron did was incidental at best.

Do you...think that without a conspiracy nobody would have thought maybe the government should take some kind of action on Parahuman issues? There's nothing clever about the Protectorate, Wards, and PRT, they're elementary responses to the situation handled not very well.I'll confess that canon and fanon are really mixed up in my head but wasn't Cauldron responsible for the formation and administration of the Protectorate, Wards, and PRT? Endbringer responses? Social engineering and public relations regarding parahumans?
You remember wrong. Amy did it, Bonesaw did nothing. Weaver is not Khepri without Doormaker and Clairvoyant.
Also, Canary pacified her thralls.
I knew this. I know that it only worked because plot armor level luck, multiple people's insanity and the inputs of many other people. I just feel like Cauldron was no more important to killing Scion than Grue helping Taylor through her early cape career or Carol traumatizing Amy or one of those random people that Riley interacted with when the s9 were in cryo. As in, very little.Bonesaw was involved in the sense that Taylor's self worth issues, pathological obsession with her personally achieving things and Ziz drove her to get her corona messed with because she could do nothing against scion and Bonesaw had said before it could alter powers so she pushed for it after making sure Lisa wasn't around to stop her in the blind hope it would let her be of some use against scion when it was far more likely to just kill her. Amy initially refused because she was busy, it's crazy and would probably just kill Taylor without doing anything but Bonesaw was going to try anyway so Amy chose to do it so it at least had a slim chance to work.
I would also say that you are vastly underestimating how many people were absolutely vital to the process just because of how the fandom likes to present it as Taylor stomping Scion by herself such as all those fics with the summary of "With just bug control Taylor Hebert killed a god now with [ insert name of big power ] all creation shall tremble" or variations thereof. The reality is tho the whole thing was a desperate scramble that was pretty much always in danger of falling apart and that's with Scion messing around for it as in there's a bit he catches up to Taylor gets right in her face, basically goes boo and then lets her go off again to say nothing of how he has ptv set to auto activate if sting is aimed at him.
Just from the point of Doormaker's power running out over a dozen people were vital from stopping it falling apart from Dinah talking Scrub and Labyrinth to enter Taylor's control giving her portals to Aisha punting the last 2 capes she needed into it to Teacher and Lisa getting the needed info out of Doormaker and ferrying him to GU who recharged him and used his power to save them all from Scions giant energy wave when he finally gave up and then let Taylor control her to Lily and Parian willingly entering Taylor's control which let her have sting and giving her a mover option to Canary under Taylor's control rallying the crowd which Dragon and others helped spread to Ziz coming in for a clutch save and escalation when the Eden images were falling apart along with her and the other endbringers none of which Taylor could control fighting scion by themselves to buy time which even killed levi and that's just off the top of my head to the tinker group who had kept working on the big gun on their own and fired it off.
Luck nothing. Just throw Genesis at her. They do the fusion dance then Joe separates them into two people and a glass vial using trigrams and then is all "wait, where'd that come from? I didn't program that in" and the cauldron conspiracy is revealed. How long do you think it would take to cure Noelle, I'm think about -16 seconds, for him to use his luck powers for good instead of evil.
Been in the middle of one for a month now. Just got back to Theo gawping at Aisha during the gala preparations. Is anyone also starting their reread?
Also I'm betting the next chapter is 20k

Here, a relatively recent WoG:Can't find the full list now, any more perks that increase the effectiveness of the beauty/attraction blessing?
Glory to Me specifically boosts all of Joe's Divine abilities, meaning even Minor Blessings become significantly enhanced. The thing is, being a demigod is not a prerequisite for taking the Glory to Me perk, meaning you could theoretically take it with nothing but a single minor blessing, and then see the powers of that blessing elevated to the level of a mid-tier god. Right now Joe can boost aspects of his blessings with offerings and libations, but after Glory to Me that will pretty much become the base level. Joe hasn't been boosting his blessing from Aphrodite, but if it was maxed out it would definitely affect his romantic prospects and the success of his relationships. That's the kind of thing you'll passively see with Glory to Me.
So he's basically going to become a mid tier god with a domain of beauty. That's probably going to cause some problems. I think that he's probably going to create something to suppress that blessing because I don't think he wants to cause a Helen of Troy situation where his beauty is almost a master effect and I feel like that's how it would be at that point.
Anything other than Glory to Me? I got that already in reference to Tybalt. So he's basically going to become a mid tier god with a domain of beauty. That's probably going to cause some problems. Yeah, I know we frown on getting political on these forums, but I fear I can't let that slide.
