'And she's his favorite. Right.'
And once again, Akagi only cares about her shitty little Elektra complex.

'You just want to pretend I'm her again, don't you? Now I really want Maya.'
You frankly don't deserve Maya. Go help save the world and actually earn her.

The hospital staff can handle the Fifth Child.
Fuck you, Gendo.

"Baka Shinji… and he's not even here for me to… rub it in."

"That spear sounds… quite amazing. But if you threw it that hard, is it… lost?" Kaworu asked. A drop of blood began to trickle down from his nose. "It sounds like a powerful weapon for any future Angel attacks."
Um...

"You have heard nothing from Ayanami-san at all? There is something I wanted to ask her to do for me."
Kaworu, no...

This is about a matter she and I have had discussions on, something she has promised she'd do for me. It's something between us.
Stop thinking about it.

"I just… really wanted to talk to her."
Stop.

The humor appeals to me, and I like the opening song.
Stop it!

STOP IT NOW!

Gendo is banging Ritsuko and pretending she's Yui. Ritsuko used to be desperate for his affection but now she has her true love so she's just disgusted.
Somebody give this person the talk - their parents clearly didn't.
Yeah, but with Misato also there at the same time?

And once again, Akagi only cares about her shitty little Elektra complex.
I read that as Akagi seeing through Gendo's emotionally constipated bullshit. As in "Rei is his favorite, and this is how he treats her?"

I read Akagi's thoughts there as being sarcastic, not envious.
Yes, she doesn't want it anymore. The point is, that is still what she is thinking about, and not what shit Gendo is pulling. It's the old argument, to which I also subscribe, that Akagi did not have an ethical revelation or change of heart or anything. If Gendo had better a better actor, she would still be happy to drug up and exploit Rei.

Oddly enough I actually hope that Gendo doesn't die, or rather that he is not permitted to die. Letting him die is just making it too easy on him. His punishment must be more severe. Mangled Bane quote aside, I want him to live despised and loathed by everyone around him, and explicitly aware of Yui's hatred, disgust, and rejection. And just to twist the knife even more, knowing the he did it all to himself and could have changed the outcome at any time.
Basically, I want to hear him make this noise:

Shinji: My heart made that sound when I saw one of the women I love dying, and you tried to force me to stay still.
Gendo: -My- heart made that sound when Yui was 'killed'.
Shinji: That is inconceivable. You do not have a heart to make that sound.
Gendo: ....That word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Shinji: My name is Shinji Ikari. You nearly killed Rei. Prepare to die.

"And Doctor Akagi?"

She turned back. "Sir?"

"My apartment, 2200."
I had almost forgot about that particular bit of douchbagary on Gendo's part.
Maya must have grown one hell of a poker face. To be so blatant in her feelings for Ritsuko, yet to be able to hid her disgust at the idea of Gendo touching her...

Maya kinda reminds me of Shannon Foraker from the Honorverse. Remember what happened with her and State Security?:ogles:
The final score in the story of Shannon Foraker v State security was Oppressive Secret Police, 0, computer genius, ALL THE POINTS!

"I...can only remember a couple of worlds where it does not end in my death or everyone else's. And those worlds are... very different than ours."
I point out that AsukaQuest was one of them. Although in that one Kaworu wound up paring up with Shinji, Asuka and Rei are together, AIsuka and Mari have an on-again-off-again thing, and I think at least one decanted Kaworu-clone and Rei-clone are together.
{Rit's}don't deserve Maya
Love is not deserved, or earned. It is something that can only be given. And Maya gives her love to Ritsuko.

Ritsuko, however, is struggling to become someone she thinks worthy of the love that Maya shows her.

Or she's acknowledging Rei's personhood and contrasting it with Gendo's view (and her previous view) of Rei as a mere homunculus that exists only to further Gendo's Scenario and could be discarded and replaced when defective.

1. Nice cosplay.
2. Asuka be pissed.
Doctor Akagi?"

She turned back. "Sir?"

"My apartment, 2200."

She managed to keep her face still. It was harder to pretend than it used to be. "Yes, sir." 'You just want to pretend I'm her again, don't you? Now I really want Maya.'

Outside the office, Misato was waiting her turn to be grilled. The Operations Director gave her old friend a tired ghost of a smile. "Hey. Bet you the next round of drinks you'll be in bed before me tonight?"

Ritsuko snorted sourly. "No bet. I'm going to be working all night. The Commander even wants me to give him a full debriefing at 2200. You can go in now, he's waiting."

"Gee, thanks."
Ritsuko lies to Misato again... geez.
"If he hadn't reached Unit-00 when he did, Rei could have damaged or destroyed Unit-03 and Pilot Nagisa in her disorientation," Misato countered. "Rei and Pilot Nagisa were also in critical danger from the effects of the Angel's beam, too. His actions protected them both from further harm."

The Commander did not move. "Irrelevant. He could just as easily have been crippled like the others. Evangelions are critical assets to defend against the Angels. The decision to risk one in battle is not up to the Pilot. He is not permitted to risk vital elements of Earth's defense on personal feelings."
What's the A!Alucard line i'm thinking of here?
Oh right: 'in any other circumstance, you might have had a point there'.
The door slid aside to admit the Second and Fourth Children. Kaworu smiled at his guests, though only Horaki-san returned it. The bloodied blotting cloths on the tray he'd pushed away and the remaining smears of blood on his face were not encouraging.
Still bleeding. Not good.
Kaworu's face clouded. "I… it… invaded me. Smashed its way into my mind. It was extremely painful and… violating. It… ransacked my mind, going through every bad memory and pain I have. And once it ran out of memories, it started showing me all my fears. Nightmares." He shuddered and looked down at his hands.

Hikari looked pale. Asuka looked worse. "Jesus, Kaworu. Are… no, you can't be 'alright' from that. It attacked you with your own bad memories and fears? I…" Asuka shivered. "I don't even want to picture what that must have been like."
*thinks to canon*
No you do not. Because you know what the Angel would have shown you.
"It is heartening enough that you visit me. All I have had so far is old television shows to keep me occupied and not dwelling on the bad thoughts the Angel dredged up." He waved at the television on the far wall.

The two young women looked at it. "Some old show about… the American army?" Hikari asked.

"No, that's a hospital. See? He's getting into scrubs. Well, a military field hospital," Asuka pointed out.

"I just started watching it," Kaworu said. "The humor appeals to me, and I like the opening song. It feels more fitting to me right now than 'Ode To Joy'." He hummed a few bars.
... well that's as subtle as a brick to the face.

Ritsuko lies to Misato again... geez.

Misato knows that she and Maya are dating. She also knows that Ritsuko was terrified at anyone finding out, and given that Ritsuko plainly adores Maya it is really obvious that the... night isn't fully consensual if at all. That fact alone never mind the history is enough for Ritsuko to be lying her head off.

Does Gendo even realize that in his obsessive desire to protect Yui he's basically burning almost every bridge he has?
Or does he just not give a shit anymore?

Anyway, I honestly think Gendo's new book should be titled How to Make Enemies & Alienate People because that's all he seems to be good at doing lately.
Worse, he's even losing sight of his own goals, here.

Shinji taking Unit-01 out unquestionably saved Unit-03. You know, the Unit Ritsuko still needs to study to see if they repeat Shinji and Asuka's feat of getting Hikari out of the core?

He's near the end of his Scenario. At this point, all he wants to do is finish the race in first fucking place, but he doesn't even realize he's crippling his tires left and right, and I love seeing this self-destruction all happen without him even realizing it. He has options. He actually has options. And he knows it. But he can't even conceive of a plan that doesn't have him being a supreme bastard.

Excellent work, Strype. I don't know if you intended to pull Gendo off like this, but it's coming across as very, very much 'the house of cards is falling down, and he's so busy trying to put the top together he doesn't realize the bottom's folded in'.
And that's not even getting into what Yui's reaction to all this is if he does succeed in getting her out of the Eva. Honestly that interaction is going to make the Impacts seem tame.
I see sad times approaching:(
The question though is for who exactly. Gendo if Shinji tells him about Yui, or Shinji for when Gendo uses Asuka and Rei against him.
