I'm not gonna lie, I watched EVA because I thought Rei and Asuka were pretty hot. Then rebuild happened and now Mari is mai waifu.
Mari. Hm... how different would Advice and Trust be if Mari was in it?
EDIT:
Mutter mutter stupid fetish fuel merch maiden with no backstory or point at being in the bloody movie stealing screentime and awesome moments from Best Eva Pilot and her blue-haired rival mutter mutter...
Hey, her Eva was a tank and she was liberal with the firepower, that's all I needed to like her.

Basically take the Tanaka subplot, then extend it all the way to NERV. Though I doubt Mari will be fazed with Asuka owning Shinji. Things will get complicated once Kaworu jumps into the picture though.
Interesting. Maybe we'll see that if we get Rebuild: 4.44, in Advice and Trust: Rebuild (title pending)

You seem to be missing a something with that initial idea: Unit01 isn't some irreplaceable, magic magiffin. It's the culmination of knowledge, technology, and the flesh of Lilith. Yui is replaceable. Unit01 can be remade. You can't put the Genie back in the bottle. It would be somewhat like trying to keep a country from becoming a nuclear power: you have to eliminate the information and infrastructure. The United States has entire organization dedicated to keeping countries from achieving that aim, and the best they can report is 'set back by X amount of years'.

And as for the 'eternal monument' thing, I'm just going with character notes #19: Yui didn't expect her family, or humanity, to survive 3rd impact. SEELE's plans would either kill humanity for no gain, or worse, work exactly as planned. There's not a whole lot of room to comfort your family when they're dead or stripped of free will.
You're basically proving my points. :)

In the manga canon, Mari is apparently a lesbian. (With a huge crush on Yui, somehow.)
Isn't that because the Mari Makinami that exists in the manga is not Mari Illustrious Makinami, pilot of Provisional Unit 05, but a random student at the same university as Yui?

Advice and Trust: Rebuild (Mari, You (Are) Pretty But Superfluous) :V

Actually, since I read Nobody Dies well before I ever saw Rebuild, that's the Mari in my head. Not least because Mari got actual character and backstory in Nobody Dies, so she's not just a Fetish Fuel Station Attendant. ND!Mari is Asuka's half-sister by the woman Asuka's father ditched her mother for. She and Asuka bond over mutual hatred of Mrs. Makinami. :)

Pretty much. Her appearance was a 'throw it in' joke after Rebuild came out, and people kept asking if Mari was canon anywhere else. So Sadamoto just tacked an extra chapter on the Eva Manga with her popping up as one of Yui's admirers.

Yeah. If you do include her beyond a quick cameo, give her something worthwhile to do.

Despite that, she was actually one of the elements I miss from the remake. She reminded me rather strongly of my dad's second wife, and the scene where Asuka beats her unconscious with a chair is something I'll always cherish as a result.

Unless she's hip-firing the dang thing without using the shoulder stock, at which point holy shit she's firing a .50 cal SAW one handed without using the stock and is keeping it under control. That is to say, she'd be ludicrously strong and have really strong bones.
Maybe in a RWBY crossover? (Really should get around to watching that.)

Advice and Trust: Rebuild (Mari, You (Are) Pretty But Superfluous)
No no no. The point of the brackets is that you should be able to take that word out and in doing so change the meaning while remaining grammatically correct.

So it should clearly be Advice and Trust: Rebuild (Mari, You Are Pretty (But) Superfluous).

:V
