In regards to the recent omake of Kaworu being turned into inanimate objects, here is an omake I thought up.

It was not until Asuka and Rei got home that Asuka realized why Rei had a swimsuit of unusual color at school that day. "Rei, did have Kaworu turn into a swim suit"? Sninji who is with her just stared dumbstruck at Rei. Rei answered, "Yes he did as you just guessed. Don't worry, it was done with his consent". Kaworu having changed back to human form, then spoke up. "As Rei said, I agreed to do it. It was a pleasent experience being worn by her. Being put in a laundry machine and spun around made me very dizzy. Being ironed was surprisingly pleasant". Shinji then spoke up. "Every time I think I can't be surprised by you two anymore, I am proven wrong".

It just makes total sense. Looking back to Rei Prime and Kaworu Ascendant of course. After some initial uncertainty, with lots of planetary debris pockmarking the new White Moon, they whiled away the beginnings of a lasting friendship. Soon, it became clear that Kaworu handled the pull of the oceans without much sweat, while Rei had to transition to a vegetarian diet when her spawnlings began looking less edible and more huggable.

Another semi-serious omake from myself. Chronicles this time.

I dont often get visitors down here in the main labs. Most of the time is just Maya and myself. Oh sure, no one is avoiding me, I'd like think that I improved my reputation after becoming sub-commander. But even I have to admit at the utter inconvenience it is to come down here when not required to. The labs are on one of the lowest levels of the building. And while my "lab" consists of this one room, the entire floor consist of various equipment related to my research, the MAGI, or both. So there's rarely a reason to come down here. Thats why it surpried me when Misato started showing up in my lab when she didn't have a reason.

She came into my lab looking like a zombie. In her hand was an empty cup of coffee. I keep a coffee maker in my lab for Maya and my personal use, as I rather not head into the cafeteria if I could avoid it. Its several floors above me after all. Normally Misato gets her coffee there since its closer to her office. If she's here, it only means one thing. Cafeteria is out of coffee. Again.

"Ugghh..." She moaned.

"You should really get more sleep. You can't run on coffee forever."

"I know that, but I can't help it. Its really hard to get sleep right now." Misato heads to my coffee maker and starts making herself a cup.

"I thought you'd sleep better with the pilots away on vacation. Weren't you the one complaining about how much noise they made at night?"

"Yeah, but strangely I find the quiet even harder to sleep through. Doesn't help that Kaji isn't around for awhile."

"He wouldn't really help with your sleep problem either..."

"Heh, maybe, but nights would be certainly more exciting with him around."

At this point, Misato's cup finishes and she takes a sip.

"Wooh! That's good coffee. What do you use to make it?"

"Instant coffee."

"Right..."

Silence fills the room as I get back to work. Misato drinking quietly for the most part.

"Its funny... I used to be ok sleeping like this. Alone in my apartment. Looking back, I don't know how I could stand it." Misato breaks the silence.

"Shows how much things have changed."

"Yeah, but somethings haven't changed too." Her voice turns solemn. "Still using child soldiers, continuing production on destructive evas and having people killed in the shadows. I sometimes wonder why you're still friends with me."

"I wonder that sometimes too."

She pouts and turns to me. "Hey! I'm trying to have an emotional moment here!"

"I know, but thats not your strong suit. Your better at coming up with crazy plans like using all of Japan's power to fire a gun or using a giant baseball bat to swat a falling angel away."

"We never used that plan!"

"True, but you did submit that plan to the MAGI at the time. Honestly, there was a 50/50 chance it would have prefered it too."

We stared at each other for awhile. Then we both started laughing.

Misato was the first to calm down.

"Ha..." She take a deep breath. "I needed that."

"Yes, you did. You're letting the stress get to you." I say as I get a hold of myself.

"I was worried about the kids getting codependent, but i guess I relied on them too. These decisions are so much easier to make when protecting them is the priority."

"If it helps, it still is."

"Thats one way to put it..." Misato finishes her cup, and starts to leave. She stops at the door. "Thanks Rits. For sticking around."

"Don't mention it, now I've got to get back to work."

"Alright I'm out."

She leaves with a goofy smile. You'd forget that she currently runs this facility, but its a face so natural to her. Its hard to imagine her without it. She still visits every so often, but it seems her sleepless nights are behind her.

I can definitely see Yui now that it's pointed out(that's pretty much Rei with a different hair color), but my first guess would've been Ritsuko, since I didn't realize this was an AU pic.

Yui and Gendo were colleagues of Misato's father, and I'm pretty sure Misato herself is closer in age to the pilots than to the parents.

Misato is 29 in the series, Yui was thirty-something at the time of her demise, so she'd be at least 44 now. What's interesting, it stands to reason that Misato knew Gendo for years. I wonder how much of her personal history weighted on his decision to employ her.

Not even that much:

Yui was barely 27 when she 'died'.

Writing is going on. Been very busy at work. Some of which was in the news this morning. Hopefully the next week is less exciting.

Preview?

Shinji moved to sit down on the third side of the table, but stopped short when he noticed there was no place. The four chairs at their small table had always been enough before. "Oh. Um..."

Kaworu stood. "Take my seat, Shinji. I'll just stand. It's fine." He moved his chair over to let Shinji take a seat.

As he returned to stand next to Rei, she got up herself, pushed him into her vacated spot, and then settled herself sideways in his lap. She snaked one arm around his neck. "This is better. You do not have to stand," Rei said, her face perfectly calm and not a hint of anything out of the ordinary in her voice.

Kaji and Misato stared.

Rei stared right back, unflinching.

Kaworu stared straight ahead at a point a thousand miles away and slowly turned pink.

Asuka put Shinji's breakfast tray down in front of him and, after a regretful glance at Shinji's lap, elected to stand beside him. "Come on, Misato. I'd have thought you'd be more used to this, after Shinji and I did practically the same thing."

Misato snapped out of it and wryly glanced at her. "This is not quite the same thing, Asuka."

"Yes," Rei said coldly. "You had not tried to shoot Shinji the night before they informed you of their relationship."

Misato bristled. "Look, Rei, he's an Angel, a threat to everyon-"

"You tried to kill him!" Rei almost shouted back at her. "I-"

"Rei, it was me," Kaworu interrupted the spiraling argument.

Rei looked at him, eyes narrowing.

"If you want to blame anyone, blame me. I knew it was a risk, telling her like that. But... if she had killed me, at least it would have solved one problem," Kaworu said softly. His arms finally came up to hold her. "I want you all to be safe."

"And I want you to be alive, you idiot," Rei growled. "I do not want you to die! How many times do I have to say it?"

"Was I this clueless?" Shinji muttered to Asuka.

"Yes, you were, baka. I love you anyhow." She bent down to kiss his cheek.

I stand corrected, couldn't access wiki when I posted it - she'd be 41 'now'. It was Kyoko who was 31 at time of her 'death'.

I guess I'm the last person who should be mixing them up <retrieves the wet celery from the pantry>

I believe she would not shoot him, but I am quite certain a thought about shaking him (or both of them) violently came to her mind. They certainly earned it.

Martyr syndrome, loud and clear. He'll need several stern talkings-to before this one goes away, I guess. Or several hundred kisses. Or actually saving several people without self-sacrifice, to just learn it's possible.
