Yeah, I think most of us saw this coming or at least thought it could happen.

Say whatever you want about Misato, but she has a very good reason to despise the Angels.

That and I really don't think Kaworu said his piece in anywhere close to the best way imaginable. Talk about how you've somewhat temporarily defeated the Call. Talk about how Rei is ALSO an Angel, albeit one that can't set off the call.

DON'T BRING UP THE PLACE WHERE SHE GOT THE HATRED FOR YOUR KIND IN THE FIRST PLACE. Don't bring up the place where her father died next to her! I can't think of any worse way to go about breaking the news to Misato off the top of my head unless Kaworu ALSO said "and I'm going to head down to NERV tomorrow".

Unless Kaworu was specifically giving Misato the opportunity to kill him and that is REI'S AT Field, even his meager social skills, much less Rei's who should definitely have helped with the confession, point out that this is not the right way to go about revealing your identity.

Kaworu has a pretty obvious guilt complex, even if he might not have thought he would necessarily died from it, I'm pretty sure he went into this feeling that he 'deserved' to get shot up a bit.

Asuka has the pistol and cartridges for that.

I thought she just took a few of the bullets out -- not all of them, and doesn't have the gun any more. That potentially leaves the rest of the bullet somewhere else; Misato might have them, or they might have been taken as evidence. (And what happens if someone notices that the spent cartridges plus what's left in the magazine don't add up to a full magazine?)

To be fair, she's transferring her anger at her father onto the Angels, in my opinion.

And, before, she was already at least halfway towards transferring it to SEELE instead (where it arguably belongs, anyway). Best, then, not to remind her until the Angels are incidental to her anger.

Aww, that's a sweet imag--

Rei Ayanami stepped into the room. She kept her hand stretched out towards the Fifth Child. She looked Misato coldly in the eye. "Are you going to shoot me too?"
...well, fuck. Guess the penny's dropped on that line. With the Misato image at the top, I kind of knew it was coming at last, but still... I actually thought it was going to be Asuka who said it, putting herself between the Nephilim and Misato's gun.

*20 Seconds later*

clikclikclikclikclik

Rei: Major, I-

clikclikclikclik

Rei: -must tell you-

clikclikclik

Rei: -that shooting me solves nothing-

clikclik

Rei: ...especially when you haven't reloaded.

clik
M: "I only had the one clip..." *frowns, before abruptly throwing the gun at Rei, only for it to bounce off her AT field*

R: "...really?"

This seems like the absolute worst way to try and break the news especially consider if section 2 is even vaguely competent then they should be busting down the door right now to figure out why there's gunshots inside the apartment. Oh wait it's section 2, never mind.

Kaworu's AT field was in his hand. It was Rei's AT field that stopped Misato's bullet.
I'd missed that. So it would even have worked, had Rei not showed up. Stupid fish.

Next question: should NERV have been able to detect those AT Fields? I'm inclined to say yes, but wouldn't that mean everyone (including the still severely injured Shinji) pretty much has to run now?

...well, they certainly could have planned that better.

"Fish."

"Yes Rei?"

"I highly suggest you reword your opening remarks to the Major. We are trying to get her on our side, remember?"

"Trust me, this'll work out just great."

:V

Pretty sure Ritz has their fields on silent alert.
Rei's, maybe, given that she has NERV authorization to use her AT Field for self-defense. But Kaworu isn't cleared for that; officially, NERV isn't even supposed to know he could do that. Ritz could set him to silent alert anyway, but that would risk exposing him in its own way, and it would require her to anticipate that he might need/want to actually use it. Would she do that?

Extrememly expensive bullets(AT Field-piercing rounds can't be cheap) and she really should have only needed one round to do the job? The ones left in the magazine were backup in case she needed more than one shot, but a full clip of this hard to make bullet-type was too much for an operative on a one-way mission? It's not like being 2 rounds short of a full clip would have made any difference anyway.

Asuka has the pistol and cartridges for that.

Didn't she hand those over Section 2 (minus a few rounds) so Misato/Ritsuko/Maya/whotheHellever couold analyze them? I'll have to re-read, but I thought she only had the rounds, and was going to get a pistol for them. Not the bullets, the whole round. Bullets technically are just the mass of copper/lead/steel/teflon that does the damage. I just about had a fit when, in an episode of Bubblegum Crisis (showing my age, hmm?) some of the bad guy bioroids spit the bullets they'd been shot with out on the sidewalk - complete with casing!

EDIT: Annnd of course ninja'd by MattR. Who is absolutely correct, but honestly, the point about maybe not having a full clip may also be lost on Section 2, who are not police, and may not have the best procedure record anyway.

Also: Stryp - the last image with Misato? F'kin awesome!

The bullet would have hit him, yes, and probably even done damage. But he could have regenerated it. Rei just saved someone the effort of cleaning up the blood afterward.
But Kaworu isn't cleared for that; officially, NERV isn't even supposed to know he could do that.
Which would probably explain why he only manifested a hand-sized AT field to demonstrate for Misato.

Finally home to comment.
She scooted ahead a bit on her crutches
Wait, she's still on her crutches? The footbath didn't do anything? There better be a refund. :V
We'll beat SEELE, my father, whoever we need to. Nobody dies."
With the obvious joke already being taken: I guess all SEELE members' last names are "Nobody"? :p

While I quite like the last scene in itself, I also add my surprise on how they decided to handle it. They went from having a hard time to even tell their loved ones, to apprehensive whether to tell Misato and Kaji at all, to... just the most flat-out yet super ominous way possible?
S: "You gotta tell Misato and Kaji too!"
R: "I dunno..."
S: "Pretty pls?"
K: "Well, I guess no one we told so far actually had a problem with it, so it'll probably be fine..."
A: "Oh, I know, let's make it a bit of a prank and make it a bit eerie, she'll need that to loosen up a bit after this day!" :p

More seriously though, unless you already have other plans to address this further anyway, maybe instead of Kaworu telling her right away, he could still be more apprehensive to do it without the others, but Misato prods him into spilling it out early? Something along the lines of:
M: "Kaworu? What are you doing here?"
K: "I- we have something important to tell you."
M: "We?"
K: "Rei and I. We've already told Asuka and Shinji..."
M: "Well, what is it?"
K: "... We intended to tell you together, but I guess it's gotten rather late. Shinji needed the rest and Asuka soon fell asleep along with him. And Rei just went to her apartment to get some things... " ... "You know, maybe it would better if we'll just wait until tomorrow morning..."
M: "And potentially ruin another day? No thanks, as bad as this one was, at least it can't get much worse. So if it's that important, then out with it already!"
K: "We... Rei and I... we know who the last Angel is."
...

ed: Granted though, I'm actually not quite sure how aware the kids are of Misato's personal vendetta against the Angels, so they may indeed not have expected it to go this bad.

"Kaworu."

"Your look tells me everything I need to know."

"I do not want to say I told you so, buuu~ut."

"I'll go throw myself against a tree while you sort this out."

Rei caught him by the collar with her AT-Field. "I can throw yourself against a tree after we sort this out."
Misato: "Is that what their calling it now?"
Rei: "You don't get to make jokes like that after trying to shoot my boyfriend!"
Kaworu: "I have to agreboYFRIEND!!"
Rei: (throws clearly unloaded, empty gun at Kaworu's head).

You know, given the way that Kaworu's confession probably couldn't have been better-worded to incite Misato's rage if if they tried... maybe they did? Maybe they're deliberately trying to rip this band-aid off early so it doesn't come up later on at a more critical moment?

I really hope this is the case and not just Kaworu being absolutely horrible with words.

So he's gone from Rainbow Trout to Dopefish.

That bullet could have ricocheted badly and ended up hitting Misato.
These are two... very different narrative moods to convey within the same short post. I can't decide whether it needs a Funny for the fish humor or a Hug for Misato almost accidentally doing herself an injury, so you just get a Like. Interpret it as you please. :p

That bullet could have ricocheted badly and ended up hitting Misato.

Rei: Why does your plan call for me to save you from the Major's bullet?

Kaworu: Would it not increase the drama? Isn't this revelation supposed to be as dramatic as possible to heighten the impact?

Rei: First, do not use any Impact puns around Misato. Second, you have your own AT-Field.

Kawour: But this will showcase our friendship, Rei! Trust me, this will work just fine.

/Scene Transition/

Misato: *gurgling from ricochet wound in her neck*

Kaworu: OH MY ADAM THIS WAS NOT THE PLAN

Rei: FFFIIIIIIIISSSHHH

Here is another omake I thought up. Anothe session between Shu and the chronicle cast.

"This is Yggdrasil."

Shu had expected the pilot and their mother to show up again to ask about certain topics. He however felt exasperation about how there are now more of them. "I can understand that Hiro and Zero Two would be included in these discussions. I just don't get how Kensuke and his two girlfriends ended up learning about this as well." Kensuke, Sayaka and Kyoko could only laugh sheepishly. "Well we found a weird artifact, showed it to Rei, she mentioned how you specialize in these types of antiques, Hiro accidently blabbed how you are otherworldly, one thing leads to another and here we are." Explained Kensuke. "Oh, very well. I trust that you people know that there will be consequences if this becomes public knowledge." All of them nodded.

With that, Shu began their next session. Again, they were brought to a mental plain where they can speak privately. He started by showing them a diagram that resembled a tree. "This is Yggdrasil. The foundation for the multiverse." Asuka was the first to speak up. "Why am I not surprised that the multiverse is represented by a Tree. I assume that each branch represents a different timeline." Shu replied "Very astute Asuka, tree branches are the simplest way to represent alternate possibilities. For example, here is where this time line first deviated from the laserdisc scenario." He pointed to the specific branch that represented their timeline. "As you can see there are further deviations thus other timelines from that possibility alone."

Kaworu then asked, "Can you tell me why my memories are entangled with other timelines?" Shu answered "You seem to be a special case. Because of how you were born during the Second Impact, which I must point out qualifies as a reality breaking paradox caused most, if not all versions of you to have limited precognition." Zero Two was next to ask a question. "Can you tell us how we ended up here?" Shu furrowed his eyes before answering. "From what I can tell, the conditions were just right for it to happen. I apologize if it is not a sufficient answer, I am far from all knowing."

Yui then asked, "Do you know why media and alternate stories featuring us keep showing up here." After sighing, Shu answered "I am just as confused as all of you all are. Personally, I get the felling this is a Divine Prank by a capricious deity." Everyone laughed at the thought of how they keep getting these stories due to a prank by someone.

"Any other questions for today?" Asked Shu. Only Sayaka raised her hand. Shu gave her permission to ask. "In regard to myself, Kyoko, Mami, Homura and Madoka, were we Magical girls in another time line?" Shu took a moment to gather all the relevant information for her question. "You are referring to the series you three found. Correct?" She nodded. "Indeed, you five were in other timelines magical girls. I am not sure how you five ended up as normal people in this timeline, again the conditions might have been just right for it to happen."

Even though they did not get concrete answers on certain topics, they appreciated his help none the less.

Well, it is either that or the boy trying to get himself shot a few times out of penance (as opposed to getting shot a few times to Misato could work out the worse of her rage).
