Well, maybe more like Asuka being numb (in a coma) and Shinji in denial. ("I must not run away. I can't talk to Rei because she's scary clone stuff, I can't talk to Misato because it'll only make her sad about Kaji, and if I try to go see Asuka in her hospital gown.... well, let's say that's not gonna work out too well. But I mustn't run away.")

At least this way Asuka is the one who is more comfortable being in denial and Shinji the one being numb and fatalistic.

    Asuka: "So the Box is now a bone of contention?" :V

    Rei: "....Shinji, I may have to tie Asuka up and then not hug her. And... and make her watch while we make out!"

    Shinji: "Um... so tempted to make a bone-related pun, but..."

    Asuka: "That's not as effective a threat as it used to be, Rei! Woo woo!" ;) :V

    Rei: "Fine, I'll run away for the weekend with Kensuke!"

    Kensuke: "Sorry, booked up! We're going camping again."

    Rei: "....hoist by my own petard. All my scheming has come home to roost."

    Shinji: "Alas, poor Ayanami! I knew her well, Asuka. A girl of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy..."

    Rei: "Ok, you get positive points for the Shakespeare ref, negative points for it still being a bone joke, but come out ahead because it's creative."

    Curse your impeccable sense of humor Strypgia! My attempts to depress the thread more than the original update by making Kaowru act out his own version of Shinji's lowest, most despicable point has been thwarted!

    Quite. Even if they don't choose full polyfidelity, adding more partners at this early stage in the relationship would be a really bad idea, even casual temporary ones. To say nothing of where that leaves Rei's relationship with Kaworu.

    Okay, first off it was a joke. Okay? Now in order:
    @Dealer I never said they were. I said anything she would do with Kensuke they do too. As in ALL THREE would do with her.

    @Jake Even assuming Stryp meant this little...short to be early in their relationship that doesn't mean they couldn't handle such an add on, for a weekend mind you. i also must point out it's Rei, the one who not only got the three together, but has already done somethings with Kensuke and KS have no problem with him being near her. I'm sure there is enough positive feelings between the four that it wouldn't be an issue. And if there would be any issues despite the positive feelings then i'm sure they are mature enough to realize them and not do anything like that.
    As for Kaworu if that was an issue why haven't said something about Rei making out with Shinji in front of a tied up Asuka?

    Let's be very careful about anything but very obvious jokes in this realm, please. This is still subject matter that all story segments get Staff checked for first.

    Outside of omake-humor, to put the matter to rest, no, this would not happen. Rei and Kensuke would look at anyone who suggested it like they were nuts. Rei likes Kensuke very much, but not at all like that, and Sayaka and Kyoko are fragile enough in their new relationship with Kensuke that anyone other than themselves being involved is not at all even a thought. Remember, a good part of what made S&K decide to take things to that level with Kensuke was that he didn't treat the idea of sex casually. Rei not only knows that, she's the one who taught him that. So none of them would go anywhere near that.

    Similarly for the Pilots, it's not a casual matter. Even in the context of the joke-omake, the reason Rei threatening to kiss Shinji while Asuka watches doesn't threaten Asuka like it used to is all of them are aware of the real feelings involved. As Asuka said herself, anyone else kissing Shinji would get their face ripped off, but not Rei.
