Thoughts on the impact of the last big chunk all at once?

Actually my first thought was. "So Kaworu's next line is going to be 'GIVE REI BACK' ain't it?"

Also I loved the simultaneous mirroring of cannon and how it highlighted why this was all completely diffrent. You should of had Rei tell Kaworu she was a life on the wind though : p

...I kinda wanted to catch up on this, but the threadmarks list is an absolute mess, holy crap. Bit of a shame, honestly. :-/
You can use the Index in the first page to pick up the story posts alone, and follow the threadmarks from there.

(Yes, I know I've been lazy about moving the Notes to the Informational tab. I'll get on that... :( )

I think that simplifies the matter. Basically a cross between Tsundere and Yandere would vary between "I love you and I'm going to kill you" and "I don't love you, but I'm going to kill you anyway".
So you read it! Yay. :lol
But, seriously, I think what you described is exactly what happens in Scar Tissue.
I might be wrong, of course.

That reminds me that I should probably reread Scar Tissue one of these days, especially since the author has come back and was kind enough to review my latest story over at FFN. I recall it being pretty good, but most of the details elude me other than it starting out pretty darn bleak. Wasn't there a Russian kid soldier/assassin somewhere around the last updates before the hiatus roo, or am I crossing some other story?

Yeah, that's the one.
The Russian is kinda badass. Also kinda batshit crazy, but that's par for the course. ;)
He even updated two new chapters half a month ago, or so I think.
Edit: I mean the author, not the Russian. Back off, Grammar Nazi Zombies, I got meself a shutgon, and I ain't no afraid, ya dig, to use it!

Ask, and you shall receive.
Early chapters and flashbacks in Scar Tissue.

"shudder"
Don't worry. They get better...ish.
I find it funny that in Scar Tissue Shinji finally gets his father approved... And Shinji does NOT CARE.:lol

Gendo: "That boy, he is uncorrectable"

Ristuko: "Is that pride I hear in your voice, Advisor?"

Gendo: "The boy successfully shattered SEELE's plan for the next step of evolution and gave a "BIG FUCK" you to Keel Lorenz himself, completely burned my scenario along with any hope of reuniting with his mother, and bit me in half... literally. Then he proceeded to refused the godhood I devoted my life to and the endless ecstasy of Instrumentality so he could return to the deserted wasteland we called home, only to be beaten half to death by the deranged banshee he fell for... saving mankind in the process."

Gendo expression turns dead serious.

Gendo: "What's there not to be proud of?"

Well, my point is that a Tsundere denies she is in love with the love interest, while the Yandere is over the top obsessive about her openly declared love. It shouldn't be possible for both to exist at the same time. In "Scar Tissue" Asuka manages to seem like both, but that shows how messed up she is. Actually, I don't think she's denying her feelings for Shinji to herself as much as lashing out at him for Third Impact and the events leading up to it. It's not clear if she realizes she fell in love with him, and is punishing him for that, too.

I'll add that's how the story STARTS. Asuka straightens herself out in Chapter 1, (IIRC) the rest of the story is more about how she deals with everyone else, and their reaction to her past behavior. And it actually starts with her admitting how she feels to others, instead of continuing to hide behind the Tsundere denial. Again, or so it seemed to me.

Well, I did write "early chapters and flashbacks". I think at least the first five-ten chapters she is still pretty conflicted over the whole issue, it's just her guilt finally caught up with her, so she mows down through both "tsun" and "yan".
I agree that her behavior cannot be explained by a simple anime template, but her actions do fall under a general category of what a tsundere and/or yandere would do.
For those with no idea, yeah, she starts out that fucked up.
Shit... an overpowering... urge to discuss... must... stop... Don't want... ugh... to be threadbanned.
Alright, I'm fine. Still want to know what you think about that, Alan, but hey, that's alright, too. The Waff must flow and all that.

Correct. In fact, it's pretty damn bleak for the first half dozen chapters, while Asuka deals with all the guilt over what she's been doing to Shinji landing on her after she finally abuses him so bad she puts him in the hospital (that's not a spoiler, that's the opening) and Shinji deals with self-loathing and guilt over Third Impact that's gotten so bad it's nearly a split-personality that hates him.

It does brighten up, though, as Shinji accepts that Misato and others do care about him, Asuka admits she does care about Shinji, and was abusing him to drive him away from her worthless self, and Shinji admits he was letting Asuka abuse him because he saw it as punishment he deserved. :(

So, back to A&T: Busy days of work and modding have prevented any writing since the omake for Shadenight123's fic, for which I am sorry. And of course, while another quest omake and getting back to ACoS were what I planned to do first, a good bit of the opening of A&T Ch11 popped into my head yesterday while I was waiting at the Embassy. We've got Shinji being numb, Asuka in denial, Gendo being cryptic, and Kaworu struggling not to have a breakdown, since he knows exactly what happens next if he loses his grip. Him begging Shinji and Asuka to kill him quickly would not go well for anyone right now.

"She... she's dead."
"NERV's got to have some super-science bullshit to bring her back! Right? RIGHT?"

"I may have a plan or two to accommodate for this setback". 'I HAVE NO BACKUP PLAN!'
Kaworu struggling not to have a breakdown,
"The first thing I do after I get back to my apartment is scrabble for the pictures and...

God, I'm fucked up."
