Later:
"Train? Really? I thought you had better taste than that!"
"Hey, I'm allowed to like mediocre feel-good music! It can't all be purely reflective of my inner trials."
"I guess. Nice call with Jim Croce, though."
Later:
Costumes and Games established that Asuka has a Sailor Mars costume (complete with wig, which she is of course not wearing here). She thinks it's a little tight on her nowadays, but Shinji likes it. She also has, among other costumes, Lina Inverse, and an Imperium of Man Commissar.
Having read (most of) Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon and observed the relative personalities of Ms Hino and Ms Mizuno, I have to say "no" to that question
Oh, that last line isn't ominous or anything....T Your daughter's friends are... very important to me. One especially. And I will not let anything harm them as long as I have a choice.'
I'm not sure the rules of Earth have changed enough that a giant biomechanical robot can adopt someone officially. Unofficially, sure. But either way, the bombshell Kaworu opened with makes me feel that it would be unlikely to happen. You know what would be funny here? Mrs. Horaki takes a good thorough look at Kawarou's soul, realizes that the poor boy is both Very Young and Never Had Parents, and... Kawarou comes out of the entry plug calling Hikari "onee-san."
Kawarou: "I... appear to have been adopted? I'm unsure how to feel about this, but I'm leaning in the positive direction."
Officially, what Evangelions actually are is so classified, the classification level is [REDACTED].I'm not sure the rules of Earth have changed enough that a giant biomechanical robot can adopt someone officially. Unofficially, sure. But either way, the bombshell Kaworu opened with makes me feel that it would be unlikely to happen.
Still hilarious to think about, though.
To para-quote: When a god asks you something, you say yes!Unofficially, are you going to tell the giant biomechanical robot that doesn't need a power cord 'No'?
Here's a shower thought.
In the events of a happy end where the central quartet lives, we'll have A+S who have been going at it like rabbits, and R+K, an inexperienced couple who are literally new to all of that.
I am sure Asuka and Shinji will be more than happy to give a few pointers.
Does that mean we could get a NSFW sequel, Advice and Thrust ?
"So how's that pre-date playlist Shinji made you to help keep your mind off of things?"
"Well..."

I'm betting you meant emotionally or metaphorically? The only time she kicks his face is when they're crawling through the vents during the blackout, she thinks he's peeking up her skirt. She tries to get his attention as a girl far more often. On the one hand, yeah, she kind of obviously wanted Shinji's attention (thermal expansion, anyone?) but on the other hand she spends most of the series literally kicking his face in. And no, that's not just slapstick, that had real consequences towards the end.
A&T's averted most of this because the premise is "Well, what if her feelings WERE genuine?" but still, it bothers me.
The premise for A&T was not "What if her feelings WERE genuine?", but "What if Shinji gave her the sign she wanted that it was safe to lower her walls?" What I changed was opportunity, not motivation.
He did give her the sign! ....it may not have been intentional, but it worked! No, premise was "What if Shinji couldn't find a hold for himself during a oxygen depriving kiss and one thing lead to another?" I don't recall him 'giving' her any sort of sign, at least voluntarily
I'd say it's more "What if Asuka got the sign that Shinji also wanted what she wanted and that it was safe to lower her walls?"
Or as a wise man once said, "Bah, semantics."
I think the thesis here is that Asuka isn't showing how messed up in the head you have to be to act like the cliche tsundere. She's showing how messed up in the head you become because you acted like the cliche tsundere.I bring that up to mention the elephant in the room: the idea that Asuka's got a hidden soft side. Does she really?
This has bothered me since the day A&T first started; it feels too much like whitewashing her to say yes. The whole point of her was to show how messed up in the head you'd have to be to act like the cliche tsundere in action.
In Asuka's case, it's very much her trauma that leads to her mercurial nature, rather than the other way around.I think the thesis here is that Asuka isn't showing how messed up in the head you have to be to act like the cliche tsundere. She's showing how messed up in the head you become because you acted like the cliche tsundere.
What's being deconstructed is that you can get your happy ending while caring about people AND being constantly obnoxious and distant and verbally or even physically abusive to them, as tsundere characters tend to do.
Just had to add, I went back to the first page to see exactly how that happened, and ended up reading the entire first chapter.
I HAD TO STOP MYSELF FROM CONTINUING or I'll bethread-yarn-spelunking all day and I don't have time for this I have work to do DAMMIT STRYP I'M LOST SOMEBODY SEND COOKIES AND CHOLOCATE I'M DIVING IN!
What stories are these from?I'm trying to imagine how that conversation would go instead if A&T!Yui was more like GHL!Yui or KMM!Yui.
Of course, if we were using KMM!Yui, we would also have to use KMM!Kyoko. Which would certainly lead to some... interesting conversations.
"Are you making sure to only do it on his safe days?"
"...Mama, boys don't have safe days."
