Someone has to hold the fort. Homura chose to stay behind and do that.

Its not like this is a Suicide mission where the one we leave behind will die.

Let's be honest tho, even if that was the case, Homura is probably the most OP of our OP team of OP allies who are OP, and so has the best chance of coming out alive anyway.

I'm reeeeasonably sure that Homura kicking the bucket would be an instant game over, and that something as momentous as that wouldn't happen off-screen just because we decided to leave Homura at home.

I mean, I don't even want to imagine HOW many bad decisions we'd have to chain together to even reach that point.

... god, how turbo-fucked would everything be if we lost Homura? Sure, it would technically make some things simpler, but in the sense that running a dead apocalyptic wasteland would be easier than running a fully-populated country.

Home (Homu?) Alone would have a running time of maybe 10 minutes: 9 minutes of establishing the setting, 1 minute of those poor thieves getting blown to smithereens by Homura's first trap.

Actually, not a second would pass and she would have already laid a network of traps all around the place. :V

Aww damn, now you lot have me imagining Homu Home Security, a post-canon "hobby" wherein Homura amuses herself by getting paid to set up sadistic Rube Goldberg-esque defensive contraptions for vacationers.

How does Niko's cloning work? Would a clone of Sayaka have her power or be an uncontracted potential?

Depends on how you define "Niko's cloning". Her battle-cloning technique is just shaping local materials into magically-controlled, Niko-shaped simulacra-- limited molecular sculpting lets them appear and move identically to her, but a Nikklone pulled out of a wall is still fundamentally a golem comprised of brick and mortar. She could alchemize an organic, anatomically accurate human body*, but it would be too inefficient for combat purposes, and a Sayaka body double wouldn't be alive/independent, so you'd need an outside motive force to breathe life into it-- a resurrection power could hypothetically work, but the new Sayaka would presumably be an uncontracted potential.

Kazumi is basically this, except that she was spun out of the salvaged remains of Michiru's witch, with the motive force being provided by its Grief Seed/Cor Malificus. A chimaera is technically an uncontracted potential, but has inherent magical powers.

*Niko's power is basically FMA awakened alchemy, and capable of remarkable fidelity; she turns her own fingers into fully functional homing rockets before using it as an ad-hoc healing power to grow them back using her own body mass.

ED: Actually, if the brain is created in a 'fresh' state and prevented from degenerating with magic (due to the body being in a 'dead' state), then a defibrillator might be all you need to jump-start a new clone.

  • [X] Thank Homura. Seriously.
-[X] Tell her she might have to receive the Shiogama girls arriving at 10:00 AM. If so, recommend getting Hitomi's or Madoka's help?
[X] Apologize to Sayaka for pulling this on her first big mission.
-[X] Is she OK with it? Offer reassurances if necessary.
-[X] Ask Homura about having Sayaka wait for us on the roof, to hide her timestop from the Pleiades.
    [X] Get moving.
    [X] Strike Team:
    -[x] Mami
    -[x] Sayaka
-[X] Oriko and Kirika: Wake them, explain the emergency; how important this is for you and for the future.
-[X] Ask for their help. They've proved themselves in our eyes, and we'd appreciate their help a lot.
--[X] Privately: And this could help in ending the house arrest.
[X] Tell the Pleiades about Oriko's lost powers, her criminal actions (details at Sayaka's discretion), the fight, imprisonment, and how they've helped since then (Sendai).
-[X] Personally vouch for them: You believe they want to do better.
[X] Depart for Asunaro once you've got everyone.
-[X] Mention Oriko's visions; segue into talking about possible threats.
    [X] Thank Homura. Seriously.
-[X] Bring up the Shiogama girls arrival. Discuss approaches. Perhaps Hitomi or Madoka can help?
[X] Apologize to Sayaka for pulling this.
-[X] Is she OK with it? Offer reassurances as necessary.
[X] Seriously, discuss possible hostile scenarios. It's important.
[X] Remaining in timestop, wake up Oriko and Kirika: Wake them (carefully), explain the situation.
-[X] Ask for their help. They can help make things better.
--[X] Ask Kirika to let Sayaka rockman her power. The more anti-mind-control the better.
[x] Decide how much timestop knowledge you're sharing, or if full obfuscation (pickup from Oriko's?) is best.
[X] Return home. Form vehicle in timestop, minimize real-time used. Disengage timestop, get going.
-[X] Implement Sayaka and O&K pickup plan.
    -[X] ENGAGE LUDICROUS SPEED
[X] Give the Pleiades abridged O&K info (Nanoha befriending!), leave Sayaka's involvement to her discretion.
-[X] You have faith O&K truly intend to help.
[X] Ask Homura if she's willing to come along so we can do this in timestop--so that we can be back in Mitakihara in time to welcome the Shiogame immigrants.
-[X] Emphasize that our new allies were just attacked, and our visitors need to get back ASAP. Also, that you have an idea of who the culprit might be, and where she might be.
-[X] Point out that, by doing this in timestop, no one needs to stay behind in Mitakihara anyway.
    [x] Strike team roster:
    -[x] Mami
    -[x] Sayaka
    -[x] Oriko and Kirika
--[x] For the Pleiades: Summarize the truth. Oriko went Hard Woman Making Hard Decisions after her precog messed with her, you beat the snot out of her and now you're friends. Still under house arrest, though. She's coming because Kirika's coming and they're a package deal *wiggle eyebrows* and because it makes Homura more comfortable for them to be out of town.
--[x] Provoke some Kirikaness at the first opportunity. You bet that Kirika and Kazumi will get along perfectly.
--[x] For Oriko: Safer for her. Makes Homura feel safer. She needs some time outside doing something. Lets her demonstrate that she's changed. Kirika would love to make some new friends. Don't let her stay home, she and Kirika need this, trust you.

Keep in mind that a defibrillator actually stops the heart. This is done when the person has arrhythmia; the idea is that the brain will notice the stopped heart, and start it again with the proper rhythm.

We should definitely do this in timestop. You know how Homura likes to sleep in timestop? Yeah, I don't think that we're "imposing" on her at all.

Discuss situation with O&K should absolutely be done in privacy or TS.

Hiding TS use from Asunarians is an excellent idea.

I like the handling of the O&K explanation here - basically just hand it over to Brinapilot.

Biggest issue I see with Redshirt is that it doesn't focus too much on what our arguments are to O&K to get them to come with us. Is there a way to cram some of that in, or can we trust brinapilot to pull from what we've discussed here in the thread?

  • [x] Wake Homura and Sayaka and inform them Asunaro's in crisis. You'd like to work out a plan with them and Mami using Homura's power.
-[x] Ask Homura to pick up Sayaka and come over.
[x] Keep things calm and head to the roof while waiting for timestop.
[x] In Timestop: Go over the Asunaro situation. Rehash Oriko/metaknowledge as needed to fill Sayaka in and refresh memories. Hypothesize potential enemy actors.
-[x] In addition to not leaving Mami's friends in a crisis, you can't let the precedent of people stealing Clear Seeds and getting away develop.
[x] Who's coming, who's staying on Mitakihara overwatch?
-[x] You'd like at least one anti-mind control trump card to come along, be that Homura's timestop, or access to antimagic. Sayaka can copy it from Kirika.
[x] Don't be pushy, accept others insights and opinions, and respect both Sayaka's desire to contribute and Homura's wishes.
[X] Get moving to the roof for take off.
[X] Telepathy all your friends, including Oriko and Kirika. Apologize for waking them; explain the emergency.
    -[X] Ask for meguca volunteers.
--[X] In case O/K volunteer and Homura denies them, argue that their help would be very useful, considering what you'll have to deal with. Don't push.
    -[X] Reassure people as necessary.
[X] Confer with the Pleiades while moving:
-[X] Ask about their tracking measures.
-[X] Ask that they stick together and wait for reinforcements.
-[X] Ask Umika if her powers would help in finding out exactly what happened to Niko.
[X] Take off, maximum speed. Pick up anyone who volunteered to help.

I can't recall a time when trusting Brinapilot went wrong, at least.

Although I'm not switching to
[Q] Sabrina
quite yet.

Do I seriously need to repeat myself over and over and state the obvious? No one needs to hold the fort if we're all in timestop.
For social and practical reasons this suggestion was discussed and rejected. Homura doesn't like strangers and former enemy meguca in her timestop. She's not going to psychologically be able to tolerate it for hours on end. Second her timestop isn't perfect and has been disrupted by wildcard elements before, which there would be a lot of in Asunaro. For Homura that's too risky.

Someone needs to be here if things go wrong in Asunaro.

As it happens, since the limit is 200 instead of 150, I have 50 words to work with in implementing a more thorough argument. I'm too tired to write it up myself tho. Just write up the argument and I'll snatch it up, or copy my vote and fill it in and I'll vote for it.

Actually, we probably would never know.

Something that kills Homura, especially off-screen, is something that needs to get the drop on her she cannot wiggle out of in the timestop.

That's one thing. The other thing? It has to be something that kills Homura before she activates the loop reset.

In the vast majority scenarios on the scale of "how fucked up this might be?", the answer is:

Homura has reset the loop one more time.
She now has to contend with the fact she failed, again.
Even when she had the unprecedently brokenly OP meguca at her side, who actually understood her.
And who may or may not even exist in this loop.
And all because Homura decided to hold the fort, alone.
And failed.
