Can we not? All jokes aside, Jaron isn't some fictional woobie who we need to save. He's our equal in every way, and will be incredibly insulted if we act like he's in emotional distress just because we *think* he has it.I consider going out of our way to offer emotional support and affirmation of Jaffur's personal value as ahuman beingnear-human alienoid being to be extremely important here.

It's much better to actually treat him like a person, rather than a damsel in distress.
A few posts back somebody asked if there was a Vegetan Protocol that filled the same social space as an emotionally-supportive hug. I answered that there exist seven. Not that Protocol Seven is the appropriate one, but that there are seven protocols which apply. Nonetheless, I take their meaning.
Already been brought up and rejected by Simon, who's actually dealt with child abuse cases.Guys maybe hugs are actually bad right now?
hear me out, Jaffur has been utterly abused physically by his father and emotionally by his mother while intellectually he might trust us, emotionally any invasion of his space is likely to cause him a shitload of stress.
This:
Question: is there a vegetan protocol we could use instead of a hug?
Which I interpreted as there being 7 different methods, personally.Seven. If you're trying to convey comfort in the face of emotional distress.
Considering the question of "is there a protocol", I think they interpreted your response of "7" as "Protocol 7 is what you want".A few posts back somebody asked if there was a Vegetan Protocol that filled the same social space as an emotionally-supportive hug. Now technically, Protocol Seven is a challenge to a death match as a result of a deadly insult, but I am a merciful god and thus shall interpret it as intended.
Point of order: I haven't, but I've got some minimal exposure to training in the subject. Specifically, from the point of view of being the teacher or other first point of contact adult who finds out that the abuse is going on. What do you do if one of your students tells you that a trusted adult is abusing them? What do you do if you discover the abuse yourself?Already been brought up and rejected by Simon, who's actually dealt with child abuse cases.
It is a joking name for "use the correct Vegetan social protocol to indicate that we are trying to provide comfort to an emotionally distressed person."

He's not a damsel in distress, but he is a child who deserves far, far more moral support and care than he has ever gotten. He is also quite possibly the deadliest warrior since the days of the old Z fighters, with a preternatural clarity of purpose and an amazing capability to do great things by intense concentration. Can we not? Then by all means vote "No Hug," but I still would like to encourage people to vote for the 'Vegetan Protocol' option, in addition to other options they would like to see win.also victims of abuse tend to be particular about personal space.
Considering we're talking to him in the first place for that reason, I see that as already done. For now, we've got a friendly acquaintance to bond with and tease.@Gore17 , the main reason I'm voting for the "Chat (current unsealing plan)" option is because in addition to "reaffirm their value as a person," another high priority when dealing with abused children is "assure them that help is coming for them and they haven't been forgotten about."
My problem is that we're also a child, and a regarded equal. It just feels incredibly patronising to him if we do this.he is a child who deserves far, far more moral support and care than he has ever gotten.
Poptart...y'know, now that I'm looking at this, it seems contradictory, but the both of these winning would actually result in quite the fascinating interaction.
also victims of abuse tend to be particular about personal space.
I am 100% okay with you voting for teasing, as long as at least one option specifically intended to convey emotional support for Jaffur is among the three winners. I have nothing against ANY of the vote options, except:Considering we're talking to him in the first place for that reason, I see that as already done. For now, we've got a friendly acquaintance to bond with and tease.
The lack of teasing is distressing to me.
Poptart has made it fairly clear that that WAS the "Hug" option. No one here is talking about forcing a hug on Jaffur against his will, and indeed it seems likely that Kakara could not do so even if she wanted to.
Currently, none are.I am 100% okay with you voting for teasing, as long as at least one option specifically intended to convey emotional support for Jaffur is among the three winners.
I know, but people don't seem to see it that way, so making it clearer would remove their objections?Poptart has made it fairly clear that that WAS the "Hug" option. Lemme quote Poptart on what Protocol 7 actually is.Also, Monado's reaction suggests the Vegetan Protocols plus Hug leads to bad things?
Yeah. Now technically, Protocol Seven is a challenge to a death match as a result of a deadly insult,
Poptart has already said he knows what the vote meant, so I would presume that's not what the strange interaction would be about.
Currently, none are.

Been burned by little things like that already.
Also, Monado's reaction suggests the Vegetan Protocols plus Hug leads to bad things?
Mona, you know that that's misrepresenting what I was saying, given that the next clause in that sentence was me saying I'd take it as intended.
Also, I figure there is like a 70% or higher probability that you were joking in the first place, and don't have any particular numbers assigned to the Vegetan social protocols.Mona, you know that that's misrepresenting what I was saying, given that the next clause in that sentence was me saying I'd take it as intended.
TO be fair, all the various forms of "spar" have quite a bit more collective support than any other option. It's just that the subvotes split things up. Actually...I am very annoyed that the two leading votes as "lets get right down to business, forget any bonding with him".
Seriously, people, we have time, business talk can wait. We're the first non-Jaron, non-incidental interaction he's had in ages.
My problem is that so far, nothing he's done seems like he wants a hug. I would be perfectly fine with a corollary to chat to Initiate the Vegetan Social Protocol Seven if he actually shows discomfort during the chat, which he should since this is an extremely heavy topic. Thus, my own vote is
[X] Chat (Current unsealing plan)
[X] Hug
[X] Initiate Vegetan Social Protocol Seven
[X] Have a spar.
-[X] Tell him about your current power limits.
-[X] Also mention you have a trick you want to try and this is the best place for it. (Golden Oazaru)
