I know we know what happened last time I was in charge of The Socials, but I really feel like we don't need six lines just to say
[X] We'd be fine with that; please, send them over.
[X] Telepathy Madoka: Ask if she's okay, offer to talk this over after the meeting.
Like, I know us shooting our mouth off just upset her, but we're about to start discussing somewhere potentially really goddamn upsetting and I'd rather not continue interrupting the meeting/continue shooting our mouth off.

ED: Minor edit for clarity. "Resume the conversation where we left off" is implicit, so...

IMO, we can talk privately and make any assurances we need to make with Madoka after our meeting with Nadia.

Since the vote gives the others (most importantly Sayaka) a chance to ask their own questions.

To restate, I've banned vote discussion on the Discord precisely to avoid this kind of divide. What happens there is simply chatter, for most part. Conversely, I'd request you not treat Discord as some shadowy, monolithic cabal that votes in lockstep.
Well...
So Ugo kicked some PMAS discussion in Discord.

As far as I can summarize:
...followed by four guys with one-word posts voting for him and no regard paid for how unprofessional and outright weird the vote is. I know it's probably not some sort of Discord-cabal, and these same sorts of voting patterns happened before it was ever a thing, but I've been getting like 5 hours of sleep every night this week so the distinction is sort of getting lost.
Also, you're free to drop in if you like. :p
Wish I could, but I was on the road for 16 hours yesterday, checking in occasionally by phone which makes Discord a difficult proposition, and it's looking like 13-14 hours today. Maybe I can spare some time next Wednesday?

Except that Onmur flat out said that this new vote was the result of a conversation in Discord, complete with a list of talking points crafted by someone who's banned from this thread (some of which are outright untrue). It's hard not to feel that those of us who only follow the thread are being excluded from the process in favor of someone who's lost his voting privileges.

(And no, I'm not free to join you guys in Discord. When I'm working I only have access to the internet intermittently. That's why I joined a forum, which doesn't require constant monitoring or realtime responses, instead of a chat service.)

I actually don't recall that. What happened?

This was probably about a year ago now (so 3-4 days maybe?), but people (myself included) were getting fed up with Oriko's fatalistic bullshit, resulting in a vote/bandwagon that was rather more forward than necessary and us almost getting into a shouting match with her.

Well, I'm sorry you feel that way. I'm trying not to let that happen, for what it's worth. And honestly, it's more of chatter happening.

  • [X] Agree. Helping girls in a tough spot like that is what we're all about. Talk a bit about arranging transportation for magical girls who can't make the trip, maybe collaborating with other magical groups to do it; and about setting up living accommodations for immigrant magical girls.
-[X] Any girl that comes here will have their gem kept clean and help settling into their new life, and those that want to do work for us will get paid for it.
--[X] Speaking of which, would Nadia be interested in working for us full-time, traveling to talk to people on our behalf?
[X] Repeat our earlier question about Asunaro.
[X] Give Mami and the others the opportunity to ask their own questions and offer their own ideas.
[X] Helping Magical Girls, so they wouldn't have to fight for a living anymore? That's why you made your Wish. Ask Nadia to please send those Magical Girls over.
[X] Try and excuse yourself to have a moment with Madoka, in private.
-[X] Ask how she's feeling, whether she wants to talk, reassure her if necessary; her reaction was the most normal out of anybody at the table, and that normalcy is something we, and every Magical Girl sorely need. We got the people saving under control; it's helping those people through their issues that we need... well, help with.
-[X] Break to voting if Madoka seems troubled.
[X] If Madoka seems fine, go back; ask Nadia if she knows anything about Asunaro.
[X] If the conversation wraps up, try and get a moment to talk with Homura, in private.
-[X] Do remember about making Nadia Clear Seeds, and her telling you about meguca chats.
[X] We'd be fine with that; please, send them over.

The threat isn't Madoka wishing in the next ten minutes or suddenly collapsing from trauma. The issues are:
  • Madoka is unhappy and we don't want to leave her to stew in that. Basic kindness and empathy. We regularly go out of our way to comfort and reassure Sayaka and Mami and Homura in the middle of conversation; we should do the same for Madoka.
  • Madoka is sitting there thinking about things, and she's in a state where she's thinking about wishing. She's reinforcing her position and brainstorming possible wishes that be worth it. Judging by her ability to make the madokami wish under pressure in canon, I do not feel safe giving her time to think.
  • We're specifically asking her to come in and deal with the horrible stuff we do with the explicit goal of staying sane and normal so she can stabilize us. It's our responsibility to both ensure that she gets all and to ensure that she can handle it. This is not patronizing or condescending, it is proper and responsible managerial technique.
  • Ignoring situations like this with Sayaka led directly to her contract. The way forward for this quest is to fully embrace empathy and psych. Saying things like "she can take it" leads directly to her not being able to take it and then failure. Look at the entire goddamned history of the quest: we have been rewarded every damn time we went out of our way to care about people no matter how aggressive we were about it. These are not hyper-testosterone business executives. These are traumatized little girls. There are ways to make them feel like we're patronizing them, but caring about them like they're real human beings is not one of them.
Also, I'm quite annoyed by the fact that your most effective argument so far had been to build an insulting, strawman caricature of your opposition. Specifically:
"Oh, poor baby, you're too delicate to hear about scary things!"
I'm disappointed in you, thread. You should not be rewarding this kind of posting.

I have no major issues with TheEye's vote block in general, except for the fact that it doesn't address Madoka enough.

This isn't some shadowy cabal convincing me, either - my immediate gut reaction when reading the update and reaching the part where Madoka looks horrified at the thought of girls dying was that it's something we need to handle immediately.

Mami and Homura are competent, and no doubt have some questions of their own. We can resume asking about transportation and Bennouna joining our efforts more officially after we handle this latest crisis - and Madoka being upset is a crisis, make no mistake. It's a situation with seven billion lives on the line.

The threat isn't Madoka wishing in the next ten minutes or suddenly collapsing from trauma. The issues are:
While keeping Madoka assured so she doesn't wreck everything by Contracting is important, yes, so is the finishing the conversation/negotiation with Bennouna with minimal interruptions I think. Both sides have valid concerns imo which has made this and the last couple votes so contentious from what I've read.

Ignoring situations like this with Sayaka led directly to her contract.
Leaving Sayaka alone after a situation like this is what led to her contracting. We could've talked to her any time before we left or even put our leaving off for a while to talk to her after she was done with her parents and it would've been fine.

That said, a telepathic conversation would be fine. Sure, it means Madoka can't break down crying and hug us, but we really shouldn't be interrupting this meeting either.
Look at the entire goddamned history of the quest: we have been rewarded every damn time we went out of our way to care about people no matter how aggressive we were about it.
Sasa and Ono?
