Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

Turn 100 Special Turn! (September 1982)
Turn 100 Special Turn! (September 1982)

You and Carrie were looking at George, Marcia, Wally, and the children playing by the shallow of the pool. You took a moment to breathe and look at the kids playing around. "You know George, I was hoping that Steve was going to be here."

"He's uncomfortable with all the kids around when he's still trying to find the right one," George said. "Plus I think that he's worried that Mary wants to talk to him about the Physics of the Spacecraft."

ET had slowly become an obsession with Mary, as she had, in her mind, wanted to see if the spaceship was realistic to her. She had even done the math, and she proclaimed that it was impossible for ET to phone home without some space wizard technology from Star Wars.

And she was mad about it. Even though you think she was taking it far too seriously.

"He'll find the one." You said.

But now back to the kids, as Mary yelled. "Cannonball!" as she sprung into the water.

Heh, the John Woo action hoping that the CCP doesn't try to pull anything if we set foot in Hong Kong again and then the later action of getting directly involved in the anti-CCP protest movement. Bruce really likes to tempt fate.

I'll be damned if we ever bend the knee to the CCP by not standing up to them whenever we get the chance. I just would prefer not to get shot for it.

Finally time for Sword of the Stranger. Hope the OST is still a banger.

Okay guys, there are some options that we can take and others we might want to leave, but there are two things we need to get this turn because otherwise we are going to miss them.

First, Ghostbusters. The movie enters production this year, and if we want to do it then we need to make the offer to Dan aykroyd for the script. We offer him the budget the support and let him chose the director.. This leaves everything in Reitman's hands so that we don't have to deal with Bill Murray.

Second, Big Trouble in Little China. Gary Goldman and David Z. Weinstein have been working on the script for a couple of years now, and are looking for producers. Fox is going to get the movie unless we do, and I won't let Murdoch have that cult classic (and really entertaining film) in his hands.

So, whatever options we chose, we still need to leave two avaialable to get these two movies at least.

Alright guys, important question, when do we release Return of the Jedi?

Personally, I'd be all for releasing it this year in Christmas, or perhaps moving it for May of next year to once more have it be done on the 4th like Empire Strikes Back.

What do you think?

Looking at successful movies released OTL, a Christmas release would put us up against Tootsie and in April there is Flashdance. But considering that one is a romantic comedy while the other is a romantic drama I think they're not really competition for our sci-fi epic. And I think at this point our rivals have learned not to try to compete against Star Wars. So hopefully we won't have to go up against anything like the Superman movie.

I think we'd be missing out on toy sales if we released around Christmas. Not really a big enough window for kids to nag their parents to get them those Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight edition) and Darth Vader with removable helmet action figures. If we do release in December than it should be early December.

You have a good point, and besides, we are making Flashdance this time around so we could easily move it to a different month. I had not considered the toy sales, so announcing the film to be released in May should give us more than enough time then.

Can we do sword of the strangers? (I know, shameless)

If only because IIRC (Unless @Magoose ) corrects me, but Kurosawa got some ideas with it and it's been awhile since we did any action with him.

Yeah, I don't want to do this and risk Bruce's life for some Hong Kong film, even if it's John Woo. No movie is worth that risk, and I'd be a little miffed if we took the risk there but didn't go and direct for Kung Fu Kid. Plus, we can do far more good and have a chance to star in that movie if we support this:
[]Hong Kong Action, and Protests: So Hong Kong, will within a decade you think, be handed over to the Mainland. The People and filmmakers of Hong Kong are not happy about that, and they want you, the most legendary actor in the world, to support them. DC: ???

We've already given Communism a Black eye with Romania, we should definitely save Hong Kong from the CCP as it's all but concluded that they'll just be another victim of totalitarianism in 2049. There's more than enough reason to support them, and I think we can get Reagan and Thatcher in our corner. It doesn't even have to stay a colony, an independent Hong Kong would be good.

That being said, I can understand if people think it's too risky and as such I won't pursue it if most people aren't interested. But if we're doing anything with Hong Kong, this over a simple cameo.

[]Sarah's wonderful Art: Your little girl has been standing at the easel… and she painted you and Carrie from a photo. DC: 30

[]Joseph's Love of Baseball: Joseph has wanted to go to watch baseball. So you figure that going to a ball game would be nice. DC: ???

Magoose, I think we already did these actions last turn. Also, I think Carrie's brother Todd should be back this turn.

By the way, how are the kids reacting to the new Gosling?

Plus we should give Sunrise the time to bulk up their production beforehand to take advantage of the hype. Releasing it so soon will likely leave us with a merch shortage in the the crucial time during the release.

now, normally I'd agree with you, but I think this is my reward since I did chose the option with John Woo before changing it, and by then it might have been too late. So, I don't really want to waste it.

--[X] Dan Aykroyd. You've heard he's been working on this Horror-Comedy movie called "Ghostbusters". It's an interesting concept, and one that could very well benefit from your Wizards when it comes to special effects. Offer him a $30,000,000 budget and let him have the choice of director if he'll let Lucasfilms produce the movie.
--[X] Gary Goldman and David Z. Weinstein. One of their scripts has made the rounds, and while a western setting and style is not your cup of tea, you have to admit that some of the elements hold promise if properly adapted. Offer to buy the script from them, there might be something you can do with it afterwards.
--[X] Miloš Forman. You have the rights to Amadeus, and the Screenplay that you paid Shaffer for as well. Now you need a Director, and only one name comes to mind. Contact Miloš Forman and offer him the budget necessary to make Amadeus into a movie

Okay, this is the plan that I have in mind. There's not much to it, in the end I think we do want to make Amnesia: The Dark Descent into a movie that can compete with whatever may come in Halloween of this year (and if memory serves me correctly, this is the year John Carpenter's The Thing is released) so our movie is going to need all the help we can give it.

For Return of the Jedi, as mentioned before, it might be for the best to release it once more on May 4th, better for next year as well as we can start a tradition of for our Star Wars movies to be released at that time. This would make it so that our TV movie would be ready afterwards so all the better then.

Sword of the Stranger is a must as we need to support everyone of our movies, and I've already mentioned my reason to go for the Cameo of John Woo. As for the Director and Producer, well, the dice have to favor us at some point right? We just need one lucky roll!

We must of course support rhe Hong Kong film industry and actors, heck we could very well get many of them to jump ship when the CCP begins their takeover, and there is a great deal of talent there to tap for future projects down the line.

All our family options are a must; selecting a name for our new gosling, welcoming Todd home once more, and of course making sure Mary interacts with her friends more and does not become an introvert with all her books.

Finally, there are the options I mentioned before; Dan Aykroyd in order to begin production for Ghostbusters, Gary Goldman and David Z. Weinstein however are different. From what I've been able to research, their script at the beginning was nothing like how it was in the end because a Script Doctor/Ghost Writer was hired to make changes to what it seemd was more of a serious western. Thus, i've put it so that we instead outright buy the script from them, and then either hire the same Script Doctor, or have Carrie take a look at it. We'll still let them have credit though.

As for the final option, I think it's time we begin production on Amadeus, and Miloš Forman is the man who brought it to the big screen. When we bought the rights from Peter Shaffer we also paid him for a screenplay, so we should have it as well.

So, what do you think?

[]A Favor: You are owed a favor at Colombia Pictures, so might as well call it in.

Push a change for a DC character: Mary has heard you talking to Alan where he offered you a favour. She has been bugging you to ask him to make a Supergirl movie/ comic book/ tv series where Supergirl uses her kryptonation education. She would Like Kara to be smart.

My take ?

I think everyone is still thinking it is going to be relesed in 1984. Lean into it. Announce at Christmas its coming as the best Christmas present for most Star wars fans but do ot anounche the year .Do a promote / improve action each turn till release. Make sure our friends know when it is happening but have other Star Wars projects the look like it COULD be the movie happening in the background, trip up the spies disinformation. See if we can blindside Rupert and then have the rest of the world turn around and say "Its Starwars when else would it have been but May 4?"
