Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

I can already imagine how in Toho the producers from both franchises are trying to one up each other in order to get either more budget or recognition (the Lone Wolf and Cub movies may be done in Japan, but there is still a TV ongoing, and if there's a big fan following in Japan they could very well try and revive the fimls). And this just makes it more enticing to other producers who see what's going on and dream of their own movies and franchises gaining such a following.

This is just awesome, and finally getting the rights for Tolkien's books (or at least the ones he and his son are willing to allow). @McLuvin , what do you think of making a Pitch for "The Hobbit", we talked last night about it, and there seems to be a good idea of where to take the movies.

Yeah I'm off from work tomorrow, PM me and we can work on it if you want.

It definitely feels like the money being payed in the plan for both the lobbying and the IP rights is low balling it, but I'm terrible with this kind of stuff and have literally no sense of scale for these things, so I could easily be wrong.

We paid $100k for all of the Howard Canon and did $500k for O'Reily lobbying for California. I doubled both of them for scale and while I think that Tolkein rights are definitely at a good range, I'm open to suggestions for money increases for nuclear lobbying.

I was originally going to use this turn to finally learn Mandarin, start working internationally by auditioning first in Hong Kong, get us the rights to Way of the Dragon, and start production on Kung Fu Kid, hoping that by doing all of this in conjuction with and capitalizing on Olympiad's smashing success would boost interest and membership in Bruce Lee, the Gym and KFK, but after thinking on it some more I figure we can wait for after we grab Gold in Light- and Heavyweight Boxing and make those attendance numbers insane.

So.

Hiyao Miyazaki. Extraordinarily gifted animator and less than extraordinary human being, by most accounts.

Very into fantasy stuff, including western fantasy literature, though apparently not a particularly great fan of Lord of the Rings. Based on second hand accounts, this possibly stems from the movies doing far more glorification of violence than Tolkien's novels and an apparently super-shallow analysis of things.

Probably not the easiest thing to pull off, but I find myself thinking that a Miyazaki animated version of LotR could pull off an exploration of some of the themes that the Jackson movies didn't explore for one reason or another, 'cause when I think about it I see a lot of overlap between the broad strokes of Tolkien's worldbuilding and Miyazaki's own approach to storytelling.

I like this. :)

Let's just make sure Miyazaki doesn't find out that Bruce is the one asking him to do it. :V

--[X] 1976 Clean Atomic Recycling and Energy Act [$1,000,000 ]: This initiative aims to reduce America's dependence on foreign energy and protect the environment through various measures. The initiative intends to convert old coal plants into nuclear reactors to improve the general air quality, recycle nuclear waste via methods discovered by Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois, and reduce the overall cost of electricity as a utility to a more reasonable standard. By converting decommissioned coal plants into nuclear reactors, the initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions, which can have detrimental effects on the environment, and transitioning the nation away from coal at a reasonable rate and retaining the workforce. Additionally, the recycling of nuclear waste aims to minimize the environmental impact of nuclear waste disposal while also reducing nuclear waste. The initiative also hopes to reduce the overall cost of electricity to make it more affordable and accessible to all citizens, utilizing energy retention devices ("Sand Batteries") while still meeting the country's energy needs. Overall, the CARE Act is a comprehensive effort to protect the environment while also ensuring access to affordable energy for all Americans.

An American Icon Turn 44 Results (March-April 1976)

-[X]Editing Five Dates: You need to find an editor. And preferably, not Marcia, she deserves a break. DC: ??? Rolled:D100 => 48

It was honestly quite a good thing you went to another person, other than Marcia.

You found an ole Fox Editor that was branching out as he no longer has the work he had. Some guy named Richard Chew… at least that's what you thought his name was.

Anyway, you paid him some of the leftover money from the budget, something close to 50,000 dollars and he said he could get it done in a few months.

Reward: In 4 months, Five Dates will be completed.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]Distributing Deals: Since you have a Distribution Company, or rather, are one… You can meet the major movie theater companies and strike a Deal with them. Even when you had really nothing to offer them. DC: ???
--[X] Godzilla vs. Megalon Rolled:D100 => 93+20=113

Well, Toho had but one thing to say to Mike and Lucasfilms.

Give the King of the Monsters a comeback that he deserves.

Mike, in his arrogance, said he would see it done.

(Continued in: Godzilla vs Megalon)
--------------------------------------------------------------
-[X]Olympic Training: It's time to get serious about training to win a gold. You really need to back up your documentary that made everyone else out to be winners. DC: ??? Rolled:D100 + 30 => 99

Honestly, since you were back into the saddle of training, you found yourself going around to local boxing gyms to help them. Give them a bit of publicity and maybe critique some of the boxers there, help them become better.

But you never lost track of the goal. The goal is winning gold.

Most of the coaches knew that too and drove you ass hard to try and get you better.

And most sparing partners were extremely scared of you, even with helmets and protective gear, because some of them still got knocked out by you.

So you decided to use some old techniques that Bruce taught you… like punching still water, and sand, just to toughen up your hands.

As for endurance… you ran… everywhere.

Most of Hollywood was absolutely thrilled.

Reward: You are still in the best shape of your life, and you are honestly getting better.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson: Mike had an idea, put you on a late-night TV show, and give an interview. You don't see why not? DC: ??? Rolled:D100 => 63

You looked at the camera and smiled at it all.

Thankfully Carrie was not here, otherwise, you were absolutely sure she would have panicked at other questions, or the fact that her father was in the audience.

But thankfully, Johnny was focused on three things. And Fisher was not as interested in the interview once he saw it was only you.

Johnny kept it focused, however, making it easier for you.

Blissful married life, Star Wars, and Lucasfilms.

(Continued in The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-[X]Carrie's Musical Mystery: So Carrie, what are you working on? Wow… That is cool. DC:??? Rolled:D100 + 30 => 48

Carrie left a note when she left with a smiling picture.

"You don't get to see it early, you'll see it when it goes platinum."

Failure. Seems that Carrie decided to keep it a secret from everyone.
----------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]Investments: You want to invest your hard-earned cash into something that you feel will be a good return on investment. And as well as diversify your assets DC: 0 (Linetail what you wish to invest in below this action, and the amount of money you want to invest in)
--[X] Buy Rights to Lord of the Rings franchise/Tolkein's books from United Artists. $200,000 Rolled:D100 => 79

UA was not happy to sign over the rights to all the Tolkien books. Not happy at all, because they knew that like with Josey Wales, they would see you turn them into tent pole movies that would be celebrated forever.

But they needed money. So you smiled.

And they accepted the cash.

Reward: The Tolkien Legendarium, save for the Silmarillion, is now entirely under your stewardship.

However, before you can begin production on any films or scripts… You must speak to Christopher Tolkien, if only as a courtesy.

You can't carry a pitch to save your life.

Failure.

You honestly didn't think that a million dollars was enough, especially since many of the congressmen and senators were not interested in what an actor would say. Hell considering that, before you just did things on a local level, no bigger than the state of California. Which, while really good, was nothing. You honestly were just… happy to help people.

They shouldn't have cared about everything.

But when that Actor was arguably one of the most famous and influential Americans alive? When he has been doing crazy shit for the last 6 years, where most people could see you as… well, the American.

People in power tend to listen to a man with such soft power. So they listened to your proposal.

Now you were no politician, hell you had no real interest in politics at all. But you did pay attention to the world around you, and see what you saw.

The Oil Crisis was still in memory, and you remembered how many gas rations and even just… the fear of what was going on for the world and for America's place in it. That much was certain.

You knew that the Soviets were using the strike in Hollywood as propaganda, as well as pushing more technically impressive films that were just… flooding the European market. And they were really making the US look like chumps.

And as a good American, anything that would make the commies look bad was always a thing.

Besides, if the US can become a net exporter of Energy, without relying on foreign oil from Gulf nations, wouldn't that mean that it would be stronger?

While you didn't have a completely comprehensive plan, you did… have enough to get it onto the house floor.

Hopefully, it would be enough to see it pass.
-----------------------------------------------

Meanwhile, with Senator Gaylord Nelson:

"GET THIS ONTO THE DOCKET NOW, I DON'T GIVE A RATS ASS WHO IT MIGHT PISS OFF OF OUR LOBBYISTS! IT WILL MAKE THE SOVIETS LOOK BAD! AND THAT WILL BE A WIN!"
-------------------------------------------------

You just had to hope that democracy works.

Reward: You think it's going to pass…

You will learn of that result in two turns, in the Bicentennial.

Hurray for government corruption and fear of the Soviets as America needs a win?

Also Senator Gaylord Nelson, good on you for spearheading this.

Hopefully it wins.

George will be very verry happy and Bruce may or may not change the course of world history by trying to help.

no may or may not about it. So many things that happened globally happened at least in part due to energy concerns. Also, this means the first major nuclear disaster is probably gonna happen in american soil which may or may not be a good thing overall.
