Huh, technically there has been two joint wars fought with elgi and dawi side by side. Even if it's only Asarnil. :p

Maybe as a Loremaster waltzing around to retake Waystones, Mathilde could pull together a host of Athel Loren elves, radical dawi, and if elf action happens before-hand, Ulthuan Ulgu Elves.

Asarnil might just join to mess with Ulthuan too as he seemed okay with the elfaction elves?

I just want to head their reactions to having already saved a lost hold.

I think we may have been one of the few people to not only hire Arsanil for multiple major engagements, but actually try and speak with him and interact with him. The fact that we published that book also got us some major props in his eyes. So we may very well be one of the few humans Arsanil is willing to actually call a friend. The whole thing after the battle where he was gently ribbing Mathilde about how if she had gotten off that swing she'd have had poets fighting one another to describe it feels like the kind of banter that friends would engage in.

I don't think we're friends, but with a bit more effort we'll probably get recognized by Asarnil as an actual person instead of a particularly intelligent animal. :V

IIRC getting to LM rank was the requirement for that, so Mathilde's already good there. Actual friendship is probably a good ways off, though.

So you'd have to somehow get together a campaign, or crew of elite badasses, to head into Norsca and start re-powering-on Norscan Dwarfholds. After probably reclaiming them first. That would be a pretty tall order. If it's even doable, if there's even any wind-siphoning-apparatus-equivalents left in Norsca.

... Wait. no. Rather, you reclaim more Old Holds instead. The ones that drain magic. That seems more doable.

It's also something the Dwarfs would love to do.

And, interestingly/amusingly, there would now be concrete payoffs for doing so.

If reclaiming more Old Holds would mean a possibility or chance of diverting and draining excess magic energy from the world, such that the Wastes might be slowed or reversed in their crawl southwards...

... And of course, another thing you might do is... Waystone research. Like with whatever we might be able to pull off in Karak Eight Peaks and in Athel Loren. Ugh. We need all the Waystone- and Chaos Wastes- and Aethyr-related knowledge that we can afford to get. Because all those topics are relevant and useful. And we probably need Dwarf and Elf knowledge and expertise. Couldn't hurt at least anyway.

I wonder if Teclis knows anything about Waystones? I know he helped stabilize one in... Talabheim I think? In the Blackhearts trilogy. (Yeah, it was Talabheim. The book "Tainted Blood.")

It was a fun series to read. Anybody else read the Blackhearts series by Nathan Long?
The Dwarfen Waystone network is relatively small though. Like, restoring it would help, but I doubt it would help forever. Plus the Wastes haven't expanded since the last Everchosen marched south, they're just not quite as small as they were before that.

Mathilde was asked to help by the Elves of Laurelorn, not Athel Loren.

IIRC, the secrets of the Waystones have been lost. Probably during that bit where the Elves had a civil war, the Elves and Dwarfs spent half a millenium killing each other and then the Karaz Ankor was nearly broken by Skaven and Goblins.

Yikes, getting back to the forest elves and helping to fix their waystones suddenly seems very important.

Though I don't think anyone needs to worry about Vlag surviving against Orcs and Skaven. They might have the most veteran army in the Dwarf empire right now.
Not really. The Waystones there are working, they just want them to stop sending magic to the Vortex and instead get them to make it available for use.

huh so just wondering, After hearing borek say one of his cousins camped outside the hold gates for 3 days because he forgot the password and the runesmiths couldn't tell if it was him due to the winds.

How does Borek expect Karag Dum to believe it's him? Does he have a secret password? Then again it's been like 200 years right? Dear god i hope we don't have to camp outside karag dum.

Well, in that scenario even if it ends up we're denied entry and have to turn back he'd probably be pretty happy. As those protocols even still existing is a strong sign that things are much better than expected up there.

Considering he was specifically sent to the wider Karaz Ankor to get help, he probably does have a secret password.

As mentioned, Mathilde has hit Lady Magister rank, and generally seems to have reached "actual person, if not still on his level" status. Maybe not a friend yet, but definitely someone he'll be friendly with - like a precocious child.
It's not about being exciting, there's genuine security reasons to go to both locations for the good of the expedition. Ruprecht on the other hand isn't that important a social option.
I'm actually interested in seeing him and how the Winter Wolves are reacting to their performance against the Daemonettes. It may not be vital, but it would be nice to build up that social link.
Right before the expedition:here
Where is the Grey College?

Did I miss us reaching Lady magister?
When did that happen?

Basically, the consensus was that Mathilde had the skills and achievements for the rank but was a little lacking in the experience department, but also that if she was going to go somewhere like the wastes they might as well give her a pass on that last one since she'd basically earned the title anyway.
