If we ever want to do more with the Spiders than have them hunt Skaven, we first need to establish lines of communication
Thats fine.
I would much, much prefer that be visual and or verbal, rather than written and persistent.
I mean, they don't have a pure predator/prey conception of relationships. They have the concept of cooperation with other beings like them.
That's not how I remember it being phrased.
If there is Many-food, the Hives need not fight.
The implication to me is that Other-We are at least competitors for food, and given we know they're cannibals, other-we are food in times of less-food.
Is a thing not-food, or food?

Yes, and during first battle (for Karag Nar) we weren't even seen.
Existence of human wizard in general was however sort of seen. And Skaven are, if nothing else else, paranoid.
True, but they are unlikely to have the time or resources to indulge their paranoia, and Mathilde is likely the first Grey Wizard to set foot in K8P in millennia. If they even know what a Grey Wizard is, they aren't going to look for something that won't be there when there are much more pressing threats.

Does Mathilde even know that Warpstone slowly transforms into crystallized Dhar? Unless it gets covered in the Liber Mortis, I don't see Mathilde ever researching Warpstones beyond how to dispose of.

Given that Nagash used Warpstone extensively and so do many other necromantic rituals I do not think there is question of Warpstone not being covered in the Liber Mortis. There is also the fact that the calamity that pushed Vanhells to heresy was a Rain of Warpstone that brought Skaven. I would not be surprised if it has insights on Skaven tech never mind basic insights into Warpstone.

After further thought, I have been persuaded that the coin is better spent on a new home for spiders.

Unfortunately, I think speech without the spell/enchanted item is right out. They probably can't make the sounds right to speak human/dwarf/halfling languages.

Sure. I won't continue this line of conversation after that, though.
I'm sorry if there is a misunderstanding between us, but I don't see any reason to call me out specifically? Those were arguments against specific claims by others.

I still do stand by what I said, as I don't see any reason for them to be invalidated?

[X] Magical Mathilde

I somehow missed that Not Really Preliminary Anymore had us putting Max on a non-dictated Waagh! paper. I prefer it otherwise, but that's just a waste.

Looking back to the Library vote, I wonder if we can get imperial Esoteric books of Ranaldite theology and Divine Magic from the bookseller in Barak Varr. I'm also curious about whether dwarves have books on divine magic. The dwarves have books on Skaven and Greenskin magic, so it doesn't sound beyond the realms of possibility that they have books on the most common magic of their human neighbours, both ancient and modern. It's almost as useful to know your allies' capabilities as well as your enemies'. The New Holds that border Athel Loren might (should?) also have books on elven High Magic and Dark Magic, as well as on their Wind Magic, given that they'll have fought them as well as orcs and skaven. Knowing what the wood elves can do with Ulgu might actually be very enlightening.

I know people want to stop throwing money at the library at some point, but... there are just so many things that might come in useful and we a draw for journeymen. I;m mostly posting this so I don't forget before the next vote.

Alright, so while I have time I'm going to once more urge people to vote for my plan, Plan Not Very Preliminary Anymore.

There is simply no reason whatsoever to not have Johann doing what we want this turn; BoneyM has clarified that having him do stuff for us does not prevent him from pursuing his own research, and one action out of six is not at all an onerous burden. Plan Citadel Focus is throwing an action away 'appeasing' someone who doesn't need to be appeased, and I can't support that.

[X] Plan Not Really Preliminary Anymore

I've issues with both leading plans atm, but I don't think there's enough of a fraction of voters that agree with me on those specific points to cause a turn-around there.

Meanwhile, Citadel Focus depends on writing as the primary communication method between the Spiders and Dwarves. I don't think that's going to end well, given the restrictions of writing as a communications medium, so I'm voting for the competitive plan that teaches semaphor.

If we are just going to 'order' Johann to do what he would be doing anyway then we should kick him from our staff. This 'we should let him do what he wants' argument feels like it will be a frequently recurring one.

@BoneyM
1) Will 'Fire/Hire Wizard' options be available in the post turn votes?
2) Would Esbern and Seija be interested in sticking around now there is something (The We) for them to investigate in their off-hours?

Given that Nagash used Warpstone extensively and so do many other necromantic rituals I do not think there is question of Warpstone not being covered in the Liber Mortis. There is also the fact that the calamity that pushed Vanhells to heresy was a Rain of Warpstone that brought Skaven. I would not be surprised if it has insights on Skaven tech never mind basic insights into Warpstone.

I think that according to Liber Necris or Night's Dark Masters warpstone is a critical ingredient of necromancy, as humans can't create the type of Dhar required for Necromancy unlike elves or vampires who can form it from the Winds. They either need to find or make a location that's (un)naturally strong in it, or they need to carry warpstone around to power their spells, unlike normal wizards who can just call on the ambient Winds in most circumstances.

Should he write up the Stirland results then? Not sanguine about changing things this late in the vote, but it doesn't really change the thrusters of the plan.
I think it's pointless for him to write papers if Mathilde isn't there to dictate them. Mathilde is the one with the greater understanding, and just needs him to put the words to paper in exchange for co-author credit.

Hey, there's always

for your paper-publishing needs. Trades Wolf training for the paper-dictating.

If we are just going to 'order' Johann to do what he would be doing anyway then we should kick him from our staff. This 'we should let him do what he wants' argument feels like it will be a frequently recurring one.

@BoneyM
1) Will 'Fire/Hire Wizard' options be available in the post turn votes?
2) Would Esbern and Seija be interested in sticking around now there is something (The We) for them to investigate in their off-hours?
This. The entire point of having minions is having them do things for us. The reason we hired Johann was because he was useful. "Promoting" him was a consequence of his own lies. Now that he's back, he's already going to spend most of his actions poking away at the Skaven. Why do we think that a marginal increase in poking Skaven time is going to make him so much happier than being back at K8P?

Alright, so while I have time I'm going to once more urge people to vote for my plan, Plan Not Very Preliminary Anymore.

There is simply no reason whatsoever to not have Johann doing what we want this turn; BoneyM has clarified that having him do stuff for us does not prevent him from pursuing his own research, and one action out of six is not at all an onerous burden. Plan Citadel Focus is throwing an action away 'appeasing' someone who doesn't need to be appeased, and I can't support that.

This argument isn't gonna cut in anymore. Give actual reasons for why spider webs lead to more academic rep than the skaventech paper, or some other benefit to web study that i'm missing.
