I can't help but imagine that, given that these relate to faiths, it wouldn't just be about the methods, as it is for the winds, but also the ritual involved
I mean you're absolutely right, but Im a shitposting Sad Clown.

Sigmarite: Smashed to bits with a meat tenderizer (hammer,) and stuffed in a sausage made with bits and/or spices of at least 12 different plants and animals.
...Shit that actually sounds pretty nice.

You know there is one other advantage for having Eike as out apprentice, one her grandmother will be quite fond of I imagine. Dwarfs take apprenticeships really seriously to the point where even when they are sharing cult and guild secrets there is an exception for sharing them with one's apprentice. Take that concept and expand it. What will it mean for the future head of the EIC to be known as the apprentice of Mathilde Weber 'the dwarf'? That is a lot of goodwill to be starting off with.

Notably, we have a source of divine energy literally standing in our living room. We could probably see if it Windsoak mushrooms work with it. :V
This actually implies letting Eike decide is going to be the most terrifying test Eike ever has to make, one where there is only a right answer for you, with very real consequences for your mind and soul. Something tells me Eike will retroactively think the past few days was Mathilde assessing Eike's suitability for the Colleges, a test Eike passed, and if she had failed... well the articles are clear, and I suspect if Mathilde tried, Eike could recite them within a week and give you a perfectly orthodox essay of why it is necessary in a month.
...Fuck that sucks. Especially since just suggesting a specific College wouldn't really change that either, and Mathilde suggesting anything but the Greys for her primary—no, this isn't an argument against them, just an idle thought—it might even seem like she did fail. Because that sort of assessing, once she understands how the Articles work and the fact that we were obligated to send her to the Colleges no matter what, would implicitly be for a potential apprentice.

Oh god, she's already going to end up like a little Mathilde, isn't she? Constantly overworking and achieving because she just doesn't know how to relax. And with a very rich and powerful Lady Magister backing her progress right from the start, she'll have far more resources and opportunities to do better. Fuck it, if Eike does end up as our apprentice, we're going to have to institute mandatory fun time or something.
Which when I think about it is probably cultivating an Ulgu mindset in her already.

Like, the distrust of constantly thinking that there's a secret catch, that there's some correct answer hidden somewhere that she has to find to avoid *undefined consequences of failure*, that to me smells like one of the darker aspects of Ulgu's mystery and vagueness themes.
Definitely sounds like the double-think and, you know, that habit of watching your own thoughts Greys do. Which led to us pulling a mountain out of hell, as I recall.

Yeah... "a lot" is certainly one way to put it. And while it's not an immediately available thing, we are likely to earn even more goodwill from the Eonir if we manage something useful with the Waystone projects, and maybe even Nagarythe if and when we ever take that Elfcation.

True, but the Dawi will also have very high expectations of her.

I'd rank her considerably higher - the Empire in Warhammer isn't the place that just needs a tad more human rights and more humane leadership - it is a place that desperately needs competent wartime leadership because between beastmen, orcs, undead and the occasional Chaos or Skaven attack all the time is wartime.
I see what you mean. However I was ranking her based on the original "is she a good person" issue, so I weighed her personal actions a lot higher than "she's done good in the process of getting very rich".
You can do good for the many while being a terrible person, if your situation has the right incentives/disincentives. It's entirely possible that the good she's done while, say, supporting Stirland's war against Sylvania had absolutely nothing to do with protecting Stirlanders and everything to do with hatred for the undead, self-preservation or a desire to profit from the war (+loyalty to Van Hal and the general ideals of the Empire). It really depends on how uncharitable I decide to be while ranking, because we haven't had many non-professional interactions with her :D

But yes, it's undoubtedly true that if I were ranking her based on "has she done good" I'd have given her a 7 or 8, at least. I'm sure that from a utilitarian perspective her contributions to Stirland massively outweigh whatever petty evil she does in her personal life (although that could theoretically change if Eike becomes our apprentice, learns necromancy and starts the next Vampire War :D ). And it's hard to judge her personal life because we don't know much about it, and she's displayed both very positive traits and very negative ones at different moments and in different contexts ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

...Agree with most everything else, but this one I think was to some degree already going to be present due to Mina's Continuous Testing.

Look, it's always important to have goals. If she's gonna fall to Dark Magic, she better be Bloody Good at it, or it'll just be depressing.

wait, we weren't going to do that anyways? I thought that was implicit with us being her cool gay magic aunt.

...Yes? That's kind of the problem. Being Mathilde's apprentice would just make it worse.
Fair. Though I like to think Mathildes aware enough that it would be a flaw in Eike for her to try and help her be a little bit more mentally healthy, even if she's unable to recognise it in her own self.

APPRENTICE APPRENTICE APPRENTICE APPRENTICE APPRENTICE!
MINE MINE MINE MINE MINE!

I like Eike. She's adorable. She's trying her best. But she's also had her entire life mapped out for her. This is likely to be the most significant decision of Eike's life. And if we insist on forcing her into joining the Grey College, Mathilde would be no better than Wilhemina in dictating Eikie's life for her.

Even if you think the Grey College is the best choice, even if you want Eike to become Mathilde's apprentice, shouldn't Eike deserves to have a stake in that decision? Just because she's cute and we the playerbase like her doesn't mean we should presume to own her. I'd far rather her decide to become Mathilde's apprentice as her own decision rather than it being something Mathilde and Wilhemina decide for her.

What is it about the way Eike has presented and the way her grandmother acts that makes you believe that any decision would be really up to the kid? Just because we cede any decision making does not mean Wilhelmina will and there is literally no way to prevent it, unless you want to lock the kid away from her until she chooses. Hell even if you do that she might still choose what she thinks Wilhelmina would want.

"Eike do you want to be the apprentice of some random magister, or the apprentice of your cool Lady Magister aunt who is one of the best wizards in the Empire?"

Well yes, but now we'll probably have a moral imperative to do so.
The vote option is [] Let Eike decide. Either you believe it does what it says, or you don't.
Well to be more specific about what it does:
When Mathilde meets with Wilhemina to tell her that Eike is very likely to have the gift and curse of magic, she can present the facts in a neutral way, or she can do so in a way that suggests a particular course of action. This is likely, but not guaranteed to shape the course of action Wilhelmina decides upon.

Just because she's cute and we the playerbase like her doesn't mean we should presume to own her.
Okay look.

I really, really do get where you're coming from, but it also feels like you're taking the actions of others and... making them way creepier or malicious than they're intended to be?

This is q fictional Quest with fictional Characters. Some people are going to vote based on what kind of story they want to read. Story in which we help a young child navigate a whole new world is neat, and Eikes general demeanour suggests it'd also be pretty heart-warming (I specifically referenced Owl House earlier).

Wanting to read about that kind of journey and voting for the thing most likely to see it isn't some moral failing. Besides which, Grey and Letting Eike decide are the two most popular votes by a wide margin, and plenty of people have voted for both those things, so it's not like Matty is going to just run roughshod over Eikes feelings. They're going to end up pretty damn important regardless of what happens.

From what I understand of how the Colleges work, Eike is the sole person who gets final say in where she goes.

Given her age she'll probably wind up going where we and/or Wilhelmina recommend, but it's entirely possible that she shows up in Altdorf and goes 'you know what fuck all this inheritance bullshit imma be a death mage'. :V

No matter what, we aren't forcing her anywhere: we're doing our best to offer advice.

It is possible yes but very unlikely given her upbringing. The girl we have seen is not really one to buck expectations from the adults in her life.

Nobody does their choiches in a vacuum. At some point you just (wo)man up and say what you think is best. I mean how much choice Mathilde had really? We are not pushing anything more than a good sales pitch and that is okey to make it.

Grey is the best choice because we are there and -even if we don't become her master- if it starts to go wrong we can do a lot to fix it.

To me, people have been making way creepy posts that everyone else treats as normal. But I guess I'm the odd one out.
It might have to do with your understanding of what the vote means compared to others. Not that either side is necessarily wrong, but where you seem to believe we're basically determining what happens to Eike right now—in which case making the choice for her would be domineering, despite the fact that she is far too young to really understand the consequences of said choice no matter what we do—those you're arguing against have the understanding that we're merely making suggestions, and to to the woman who will probably make that domineering choice regardless, thus they focus on trying to make the best possible outcome for Eike whether she chooses or not.
It's the level of seriousness.

mostly people are just copying that 'I want to take her home with me' anime trope.
Also this.

I think the magic dampers are less of a risk than it initially seems. What we do is, make it clear to her that between our influence and her money, if she ever does want to learn magic, she just needs to say the word and she can get a proper education from the colleges rather than risking exploding her soul (This would be accompanied by explaining just how bad an idea it is to try and be a magicker).

Otherwise, I think Gold. Having two grey Wizards in charge of the EIC Offers less variety of abilities than one grey and one gold.
