Do they actually have that sort of limitation? Figured they were a bit like Zerg in that a certain concentration of individuals functioned like relays for the hive mind and the only reason that they haven't blanketed the badlands is cause it was squished between Skaven and Greenskins, and that it was wise enough to realize that a sustainable population was better than unsustainable growth. Hunters apparently break off when they get too far away, but I thought that was cause there wasn't enough We around to pool cognitive resources with.
I'm not sure what you're asking? It's not really a limitation so much as how they reproduce, from what I remember. Yes, any number of them close enough are part of the same We, but it's still just one creature in many bodies. They can still choose to lose a few by sending them out of range to develop on their own. Or just do what you suggest.

At least, if I'm remembering correctly. Which isn't always the case.

That's kind of impossible, given the We only count as one being. And the Karak probably isn't big enough for many of them to split off into their own, if at all.
Got the impression from this that you thought that they couldn't just fill the whole Karak with spiders, that a sufficiently large amount of We would automatically split into two We's. Which might actually be the case honestly, though I don't think we have seen any indication of that.

Oh, no, I was just saying it that because we were talking population numbers, and unless the We split they are only one. To count as more they would have to split, which is more effective for filling population counts.

I don't thing "We" have a problem gaining some weight to fill out all that empty space with more spider. 98% of the space would mean We counts as a colossal creature, which grants new rules.

"Would you like to populate your Karak? We have Dwarves, humans, spiders, Halflings-"

"Spiders?"

"Spiders it is, then."

"No, that wasn't-"

But he was already ruling a brimming Karak of spiders.

"We're all doomed! This hold's practically already fallen to Chaos!"
"Quiet, manling! King Belegar's assured reinforcements, they'll be here soon!"
"Sir, sir! There's some forces coming from the direction of Eight Peaks! They're.. they're... Ancestors preserve us."
Rolling, chittering roar resounds
"FOR THE ECHO-ANCESTORS!!!"

...You know, I almost want to get some elves in here just to make this list even bigger. Counting the dragon and Skaven we're currently sitting at six races. Get elves and one more and we could have one for each peak!

TBH I think if K8P could ever be described as 'brimming' he'd think it was worth it.

Currently the best a hold can hope for is 'not entirely empty'.

The limitation on number of We is more likely to be food then space. I think they are obligate carnivores and only eat meat.

They seem to get around that a bit by having a good deal of the inactive drones hibernate if I remember right. But I would guess that hibernation still takes up some energy, so it isn't like K8P can stuff infinite legions of hibernating spiders into their halls.

At that point it's the normal problem of feeding a large population.
