...Have they still not noticed? I seem to remember something about Boney making a comment on the likelihood of some random student stumbling across it or something, but... good gods, I really want to see Algard's face if and when it finally dawns on him. It's always amusing when people realize that Mathilde's habit of being loud and proud is mostly just a cover for her being really fucking sneaky.
Given what we know of their common usage patterns- how the Grey College Battle Wizards snaffled our workroom immediately, and the Amethysts had the near-disaster battlemagic-learning (partially) averted by theirs, the most likely group to figure it out might be the ecclectic collection of eccentrics that have been rolling around Sylvania, throwing newly-mastered Battlemagics at vampires and ghouls.

Sometime in the near future, overheard during celebrations at Fort Redemption after the Battle of Mikhalsdorf.

"The Maze was great help in mastering Melkoths Mystifying Miasma. Those tricky time shifts..."
"Yes, if I hadn't had the Alcove while studying Enchanted Blades of Aiban, could have done myself a real mischief. Hmm, I better get to gilding these guns."
"I dread to think what would have happened on my first cast of The Purple Sun of Xereus, had it not been for the Tomb."
"The Hall was very conducive to mediating on the possibilities inherent to Harmonic Convergence, as numerous and infinite as the stars..."
"FIRE! I mean, yes, the Inglenook IT BURNS so well."
"Our Lens permitted true focus while achieving the Speed of Light."
"I, too, first successfully pulled the Dwellers Below from the Domain."
"While our Enclosure still bears the scars of my Transformation of Kadon!"

After much waffling, I come down on the side of the gromril library, the anti-joke, and further narrative presence of the first.

I think.

Algard: *weary sigh* At least you had a sense of decorum and stopped short of enshrining your name into College institutions.

I mean... honesty, enshrining one's name in their inventions/institutions is completely within Warhammer decorum, (and as a list of things named after people would argue, real world decorum). Numerous spells and buildings and inventions in Warhammer have been named after people, and so many words have done similarly in reality we do not even notice when we use them.

Unless the crypticness/punniness is the problem.

And as for WEBIR, I just like the idea of Mathilde giving innocent looks to people accusing her of naming it after herself: "What do you mean? No I didn't. Weber is spelled completely differently." Take it from an inveterate punster: subverting your own punning tendencies and dropping a giant anti-joke when people are expecting you to make a pun is one of the best forms of trolling in existence. The groans are like heroin. I can't get enough.
I'm convinced.

Algard: WEBIR? Seriously?
Mathilde: *grinning like the Cheshire Cat*
Algard: After yourself?
Mathilde: It's not! It's spelled completely differently!
Algard: *weary sigh* At least you had a sense of decorum and stopped short of enshrining your name into College institutions.
Mathilde: *grin widens and remains as the rest of her fades away*
Algard: ...shit. What did she get by me?

I rest my case.
I don't know if this works better for Anglos where someone could actually not know how a common surname like Weaver is spelled, but if your mother tongue is one without much in the way of pronunciation ambiguities (like the RL basis of Reikspiel) then you just see a misspelled pun. Or at least that's my experience. Now if we had managed to get an abbreviation like WEBÄR then I'd be on board.

Yeah, it feels like Mathilde tried for the pun, and then had a stroke and wrote the wrong word down. The 'Ä' version is a homophone (at least in my dialect), and so that feels deliberate.
I also don't like how either looks, because that's not a word.

For what it might be worth I too think the almost-pun is worse than no pun at all, but I do not really care about it that much. The college branch will likely just be 'the branch' in my head and the library will be the library no matter what we call them IC so eh... it feels like a vote of little consequence to me compared to others.

I like the joke with WEBIR, in that the joke is that we're almost doing our usual joke. Acronyms aren't really a thing in-world as far as I know, so it's not expected. It's a thing only people who know Matty know she likes to do. And this time she has, but also hasn't, which I find amusing.
Also, if you know the contrived nonsense people on the internet consider puns, 'webir' instead of 'weber' is nothing.

I kinda think WEBIR might be too subtle. We're used to looking for acronyms everywhere these days, but in this setting where most people are illiterate acronyms are going to be far less common than we're used to. WEBER might be a bit obvious, but it's something people can spot and recognize without dismissing it, while WEBIR is off by enough that I can see many often concluding that the institution's name isn't an acronym at all. A joke isn't funny if no one gets it.

And besides, there's no shame in blatantly naming an academic institution after yourself.

I just don't find WEBIR to be funny, it requires too much explanation for people to get the joke.
It's not funny, it's not even unfunny, it's just a unnecessarily long branch name that is not even a funny acronym the way WEBER or WEIRD are.

updating the branch names, and throwin "WEB" in there just for fun.

Mathilde will be able to make decisions such as location, selecting a Head Librarian, and setting broad policies, but will not have day-to-day control over the library, so it will not consume any meaningful amount of Mathilde's time.

I don't particularly care about the acronym, I just think WEBIR is a way better name because 'Intersectional' actually describes what the branch is all about.

That seems more important than a fun acronym.
