He has one, possibly two, or more, gods looking down on him, his parents and smart and hardworking people, Mandred has every possiblity for greatness.
If there is any person who can be safely be said to be destined for greatness, it's our godson Mandred.
Sure it still might go completely tits up, but it's not that big of a gamble really.

I completely agree. The only thing that may change this is if he gets killed before he becomes the emperor or Lutipold dying while he's still a child, which is what Heidi wants to prevent.

Worth pointing out, that sort of setup is also perfect for fostering conceit and arrogance. Again, this isn't me saying he will turn out that way, just that it's possible.

Also, to clarify my position: I'm by no measure against Mandred being Emperor. But I'm also not for it, simply because he's too young and unproven for us to have even the faintest clue how good he'd be at the job, or whether he'd be better than any of the currently existing Electors.

I've just got into thinking. If Heidi could get Shallians to make her younger and prolong her lifespan by several decades or even a century - why don't nobility do just that. Or why there is no immortal or at least 200 years old Emperor yet (one like Magnus would be great I suppose).

Very much this. The Waystone project will also very likely take more than a decade depending on the scope... I am not sure whether the thread realizes we are indeed voting for a Moon-shot Research Program, and while wrangling pre-existing information and securing backers and funding is a vital part, conducting Research and executing said Research program is almost going to be an equally significant part of the Waystone Project.
Every second the Eonir don't have the a waystones we're planning on repairing or creating is another second Chaos grows in power more than it would have other wise.

To me the argument that the Waystone project will still be there later reads like saying you shouldn't patch a hole in a boat because it will still be there later.

Sure it might not be immediately dangerous but...

I would hope that Heidi is smart enough to keep the kids feet on the ground (and Mathilde will definitely try to do that if we pick it), and Ranald is generally not in favour of arrogent and conceited rulers.
Point of bodyguard position is not just making sure Mandred becomes and emperor, but also making sure he will be a good one.

Because Shallya needs to really, really, like you to do it for you. And gods and goddesses tend to be a bit harder to bribe than humans.

So let's take this rare chance when he lets us pick the next song, shall we?

I think for me the Waystone project is one of my least favorites (though I still wouldn't complain), simply because it doesn't play to Mathilde's personal skills or inclinations.

The majority of the job will be coordination, her personal learning and research can only come into play in the later stages and even then matter comparativly little next to whatever experts on these things we could gather from Elves, Dwarfs and Colleges.

It's so indirect that I'd rather get my research-jollies by working on some nice items and papers in our free time next to another job, rather than playing coordinator for a research-project beyond our personal abilities.

I don't really mind most of the others, but I'm curious about this.

EDIT: I've been convinced not to vote for now.

We should not patch the hole because the pumps are working fine for now and the boat is not sinking that fast, but the engine room is on fire and there's a kraken on the deck.
It's just what people think as the most time sensitive fire.

That said "do this or the world ends" is kinda poor argument because we should not be trying to shoulder the whole world, what is interesting to each voter should take precedence.

edit-

Which is a pretty decent character testimony on Heidi.
If it was easy to ge youth miracles, everyone would be doing it.

The Cult of Shallya doesn't publicly acknowledge the possibility, and after a few of the more exotic pretenders to the Imperial throne and Kislev having a Tzarina that reigned for 156 years, people are unlikely to react well to an ageless ruler. And the Tsarevich Pavel Society exists entirely to oppose that possibility.

My hope is that, whatever we end up doing next, we find a way to turn half-actions into research actions the way we know is possible with a Research Institute founded by Great Deed. It wouldn't make sense to found a research institute in K8P and then bugger off to Altdorf or Sylvania, but Boney did include this:
What speaks against having a Research Institute in Sylvania? It comes with plenty of wizards which tend to be decent combatants :V

We have a dragon-bone staff, so between that and our existing proclivities in that direction, that's got to help us

fuck him up

(USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST)
Typo? I think you meant "banged". :V

Has that been stated? He went there, and he came back with the non-aggression pact carved into Jade. He has the spell. But has it ever been stated that he learned it in Cathay?
Dragomas can turn into a Cathayan dragon: "like an elongated lizard with a moustache, or, yes, like a scaled ferret, and despite its lack of wings it floats through the air with the ease of an eel through the water." Which I find strongly suggestive but not explicitly stated.

Honestly, the only option I truly dislike is the bodyguard one.

At any other time I´d be down, but I just really can´t handle rich powerfull people ignoring important threats in favour of internal bickering right now.

Wich this option is guaranteed to include in a non insignificant amount.
But, the default state of the Empire is exactly the scenario of "rich, powerful people ignoring threats in favor of internal bickering"?
Case in point:
- Nordland bickering with Middenland over land rights and religious worship.
- Talabecland bickering with Ostermark over the new Dwarven Canal, buying peat from Vampires, etc.
- Most Stirlandian Nobility holds a grudge against the Moot with simmering revanchist sentiment to retake such fertile land.
- Reikland and Wissenland maintain unhealthy rivalries against each other, resulting in Nuln rejecting any help fighting Skaven and now stuck with a problem.
- Marienburg blockading riverine trade out of greed.

Mathilde would be going out to solve all this infighting, not participate in it. It may feature inane political squabbling and maneuvering but that's because it's a work-in-progress untangling the accumulated inertia. If you wanted to reduce this sort of behavior, becoming Mandred's Tutor is a direct solution/cure VS. hoping other Lord Magisters pick up the slack.
I'm pretty sure the Empire will hold together fine even if Mandred doesn't get the position. Him specifically being Emperor isn't critical to the whole thing.
Mandred becoming Emperor is not the point, Imperial stability is. We see how disunited the provinces currently are and it would become even worse if the Imperial Succession is unclear. Beyond that, mentoring Mandred as a potential Emperor candidate and instilling proper morals/values should always be considered important.

And he's still going to become Reikland's Elector Count at a minimum, leading the most powerful province in the Empire. Missing this opportunity would mean leaving it up to chance for him to grow into an incompetent, unscrupulous, or simply average leader. Tutoring Mandred is future-proofing the Empire in the long-term by cultivating the next generation.
