Did his pillows survive?

Only a few were recoverable, all of them either filthy or torn, and he doesn't have enough room to stretch out on the Volans anyway.

How do you plan on counting these? Just normally? Or will you compare wether more people voted for one of the cumulative options than voted for the previous ones only?

I think you misread the instructions. If someone wants to spend multiple actions on RoW, they should vote for multiple RoW actions.

Also, what will be the difference in effect of these for the Wagons? Is it a speed increase? A cumulative decrease in mishap chance? Are there diminishing returns?

Because we are not actually present to see the terrain and at least in this specific vote the whole thing seems rather mechanistic and more crunch bound than narrative. If we are spending AP for straight number buffs on our d6s and d100s I'd like to know what we are buying.

Wanting to know the dice rolls and their modifiers in advance is asking for perfect foresight. Mathilde doesn't have that. All she knows is that the steam-wagons are very heavy and will be going off-road.

Does this include discussions on bypassing that stretch of road completely, by going through Kul territory, the frozen Lake and more Wastes or by going through Ogre Kingdoms and looking for an easier way down, as far as Cathay if need be?

Yes.

Hey @BoneyM, would it make your life easier to put a temp sticky post at the top of the page like soulcake did?

I'd hope that it being right there in the update would be sufficient, but if it turns out I'm wrong I'll start figuring out the sticky thing.

If we don't vote for this we would still be the contact person for the Dolgan once we encounter them with the whole convoy, right?

If Mathilde is present when that happens.

But if the Demigryph Knights are ranging ahead, won't they encounter Dolgan before we get a chance of confirming the deal and paying them to pass?

Yes. Hence why it might be considered important to seek them out in advance.

What is Hubert doing? I assume aerial reconnaissance for the Winter Wolves in near scouting?

Yes.

Gah, the odds on the crossing are pretty atrocious. Unless we acquire any item or skill that would ease the passage on the way back at Dum, it's a serious consideration to go the other way. Otherwise if we're unlucky we're liable to lose most/all of the wagons and die.

@BoneyM how does the distance on the alternate (northern) route compared to the Skull Road? And, while we're at it, do we know of any specific dangers on that path that would threaten the expedition, particularly terrain-related ones that Rite of Way would not help with?
(This isn't really about solving the gap, so I think this should still be legal)

You don't know. Maybe Karag Dum will be able to tell you. Maybe any of the Kurgans that you get in contact with will be able to tell you. Maybe there'll be time for Mathilde to scout it. Maybe you won't even have steam-wagons at that point. Hence why discussion of it now is pointless.

@BoneyM : It occurs to me that there is an opportunity to convey the First/Second Secret of Dhar to the highest echelons of the Colleges without drawing serious suspicion to ourselves. When we took down the College of Necromancy, we first infiltrated it (and could thus very believably claim to have overheard/overseen the students attempting to form "braids/rope" of dhar); combined with the fact that we snooped on plenty of the vampire's lessons about necromancy, we can easily say that we learned these secrets from spying on the vampire's lessons and then the students attempting to put it into practice--and as for why we didn't publish until now? Well, we were worried that we'd be persecuted for letting it be known to anyone that we knew this, and debated with ourselves for a long time about publishing it in any capacity at all.

Obviously, it'd be even more top secret than the skaven language translation, but just having it as an ace up the sleeve to break out when against a powerful druuki sorcerer or, gods forbid, the return of Nagash (or some other major vampire necromancer)--not to mention the potential for using it against the skaven if they should decide to fight the Empire openly, one day. Or, hell, perhaps it could be something Runelords could use against dhar users (since they can obviously counterspell with fidelity).

Though, I apologize in advance if this has already been thought of/brought up before.

Try it and be put to sword and fire immediately find out.

What about "Ask Johann if he wants to come along" as a compromise?

I'm very strongly against these sorts of options. The point of a quest is for voters to make the best choice they can, and in scenarios like this 'ask them what they want to do' is not a choice, it's an abrogation. But they still win compromise votes because voters mistakenly believe it to be both 'safe' and beneficial for their relationship with the person in question. Mathilde is in command of Johann and it is her job to decide where he would be most useful.

In fact, @BoneyM, I never quite understood why Mathilde is now considered to be someone who can do Necromancy if she can't channel any Shyish at all with her soul. If any if the eight Winds could be used to do the same type of Dhar shenanigans with corpses then at the very least that would completely invalidate all of those Umbramancy memes and speculations from years ago.

Most sane people consider 'can't do it at all' and 'can't do it without generating Dhar in the soul' to be the same thing. If you're at the point where you decide to do necromancy, you've probably decided that's not a problem.

Ah, okay, for some reason I assumed our knowledge of that route was greater than "actually nothing". But I guess it makes sense, since no one... actually ever goes there.

Man we already have 2 pending dwarf favours now we've helped rescue a Karak. If we manage to help another then our reputation with the dwarves will definitely be higher than our relationship with the colleges.

Also I can't wait to get to 10 magic, considering that's thought to be the limit of human mages.

I love how there's a constant undercurrent of wanting to use/teach Necromancy. It's like Mathilde was mildly corrupted from fighting vampires and reading the necronomicon, but instead of hitting her directly it went meta and spread to the thread.

There is no undercurrent, there's one person, two occasionally. Out of a voter base that has exceeded 200.
