[X] It's moving away from the path the Expedition will take, that makes it no longer your problem. Get back on course and head for the port.

[X] Continue following it. It would be good to know where this creature calls home, and whether there are more of it.

So much for @BoneyM only producing close votes.

It doesn't seem like half a day is a heavy price to pay for potentially useful information? A nest of Dragon Ogres potentially calling Thunder Mountain home could be very relevant, and there's no one that can scout it out as safely as we can.

If it is a nest of Dragon Ogres, leaving it to rest will have some shitty consequences in the future when our supply line is based right next to Thunder Mountain.

That's incorrect. Our supply line will be sea-based from Barak Varr to the port we've been distracted from scouting, then underground most of the rest of the way to Karak Eight Peaks. At the very least, it's not going to be overland anywhere near Thunder Mountain.

Well, this one isn't quite so close as the last one.

I don't think our choice was a waste.

River-based. To repost the map of the region:

The port is in the westmost branch of the tributary that joins the Blood River at the M in Thunder Mountain.
Wow. That means the expedition will be marching underground down an ancient Dwarfish highway for 100-150ish whatever-units from the Port to Death Pass? I think that will be an... interesting experience for the humans in the army. Where does the Underway join up with Death Pass? Before or after it doubles back and heads to Karak Eight Peaks?

I want to know how dwarven tunnel ventilation works. Really good engineering, or blatant rune-magic?

Natural air circulation can do some amazing stuff. There are tunnel systems that 'breathe' in a day/night cycle (due to heat differentials, I think). On a smaller scale, termite hills also have natural ventilation due to how they are built, as do some of the modern low-energy houses. Intentionally building houses that way is apparently quite difficult, though. I know of some "low energy" buildings that turn out to need a lot of energy anyway due to having to ventilate all the time.

Dwarves might do something similar. Combine this with some (magical) flora which recycles oxygen in darkness and maybe some runic help where the first two don't suffice… maybe throw in a racial adaptation to use less oxygen. There is really no need for any mantras on our end.

The highway once went all the way to Karak Eight Peaks but it was collapsed during the original wars over it. The expedition will have to go down Death Pass and around to the eastern entrance. It's still a good fifty to sixty miles underground.
