We are already doing this with the Great Deed... So i wont be surprised if we end up with the Boon unused for quite a few turns...
there is a big difference in scale going on. Great Deed is in the 'not useful yet, but we know what it will be useful for.' area.

The Boon is 'useful= yes, when= yes.'

there is a point to saving Great Deeds, there isn't for this level of boon.

But the thread knows that leaving the Boon unspent is going to eat at Bele-bro just like a Grudge would, so it needs to go soon one way or another.

Depending on what the boon is for keeping it in for a bit whilst Karak Eight Peaks stabilizes and grows a bit makes some sense.

It isn't like Belegar can set up the greatest library in the Old World or build a Dreadnought immediately. It took Alaric the Mad a century to create the Runefangs - getting the really good stuff up and running simply takes time and effort.

The only thing that (IMO) would be actually useful, that also wouldn't put undue strain on Belegar or K8P, that also could have it applied immediately, is the library. Now, other peoples' assessment of usefulness may differ, but that's where I am coming from. Hence why I'm fine with waiting a bit. (Given I'm in the camp that believes Belegar would not be unduly stressed by waiting on repayment.)

That is not known. Some people have said that it would, but we don't have confirmation. Other people have said that it's likely he'll accept a "I can't think of anything worthy of this right now, give me some time" and would be okay with waiting. That's also possible.

Please stop treating your headcanon as fact.

I mean, the ultimate use of the transcendent boon would be Mathilde coming back as an avenging ghost two-hundred years after her death and asking Belegar to save Sylvania from a resurrected Alkharad/Countess team-up.

I have a couple of questions about this scenario.

1. Is a ghost bound by the Articles of Magic?
2. Can a ghost use Dhar?

Because if the answer is no and yes respectively, then Mathilde might have a way to fix this problem without needing the Boon...

1. maybe
2. yes, or at least lore of the deep if your ok with taking from TW:Warhammer lore. (fyi, there is some fun stuff in it lore-wise, so I'm fine cherry-picking stuff.)

"I have been reminded a great many times of the importance of Grudges, but I fear the Karaz Ankor has forgotten their counterpart. So many die to strike out ancient wrongs in the Dammaz Kron, but how many concern themselves with what other scores remain unsettled? Where is the Dalaz Kron, to be a weight around our necks when the acts of honour and courage of our oldest allies are not repaid?

The wording of that last bit makes it seem pretty clear. Nobody's saying that waiting is unacceptable, merely that it's burdensome in the same way that an unavenged grudge would be.

You know all this discussion about the boon is tiring, at the end is very unlikely that we will spend it on anything anytime soon, because it is a textbook example of Too Awesome to Use...

I have a couple of f questions regarding how to spend college favour @BoneyM

IIRC if we add two extra favors to a Battle Magic Artifact ( for example a 12 favour speed of light item) it would work better... But it is possible to add even more favors to increase its quality? And if so how many favors can be added while remaining cost effective?

EDIT: I know that we can buy exotic materials for making our magic staff starting at 10 college favours but which kind of materials are available for purchase in the college and how much favor would it cost each kind of material?

No. Purchasing enchantments does not need a power boost, nor added complexity.

Exotic staff materials are 10 favour, period. There'll be decisions about what exactly they would be if the thread voted to make that purchase.

There's no way K8P would have any real use for an ironclad (as Warhammer uses the term), though. It's restricted to rivers--which means monitors. But monitors are basically relatively small, armored warships with cannon that sail in rivers or coastal waters, for patrol/defensive purposes.

I have an idea for the boon: basically an attempt at mass production. Creating a factory/compound of factories where not only is there specialization of labor, but the designing and creation of machines to facilitate mass production of parts/machines.

Let's take the existing developments in firearms and other technologies and make them much more widely accessible. We know dwarfs have repeating firearms with actual metallic cartridges--from there, making a Martini-Henry rifle would not be difficult. Mass producing them--and the ammo--would allow us to massively boost our firepower (and export said rifles across Karaz Ankor). We could attract some talent from Nuln, but also pass on the expertise for mass production to the Imperial School of Engineering at Nuln.

Culturally, we're actually in a great position to try it: we've got a highly skilled radical dwarf engineer who is also royalty (IIRC) on our council, we've got an entire population of dwarfs that have seen unconventional tactics pay off in spades and also see the immense value of artillery and gunpowder weaponry (plus gyrocopters), we've got a huge influx of income on the horizon with We silk, we've got major ties with Nuln and Stirland, favor from the Emperor and Empress, and a population of humans in a dwarf Karak that has proven itself so thoroughly that it's been given citizenship and even historically-significant dwarf weapons in their honor. We've even got at least one Gold Wizard interested in making the most out of technology. An effort like this could attract more Gold Wizards, too.

Man, thats a very fast track to having Eight Peaks blacklisted by the collective dwarf economic guilds

and not a very IC pick, we are not that kind of Learning Adviser, we chose wizard, not engineer. and we have no engineer traits or skills or background or... anything in that way.

Mathy just doesn't think in that way, this is something Johnn might come up with, but not Mathy.

As opposed to now, when the Weaving guild was so happy to set up shop and work with us told us to take a long jump over a deep mineshaft? :V

Heh. That would be "I've spent two years staring at this Skaven Sniper Rifle with all my magical spells for doing exactly this, and still don't have the foggiest" Johann? :V

I said he might think that way, didn't say he was good at it...

Johann's diagnostic process:
[]Can I punch it?
-[] Yes
--[]Does it help?
---[]Yes? Huzzah! We're done! Commence Punch Wizarding.
---[]No? ...uhh
-[] No

Since when did we have Skaven sniper rifles? I think the best we got was like a broken warp-lightning cannon or something, and that was only recently. Well, until we stole their entire tech tree, but you know what I mean.

The Skaven Jezzail we picked up, perhaps even on the first icebreaking, getting to know you raid with Johann.
Just a Green loot, but still. He's fixated.

Jezzails under firearms under accumulated artifacts, stolen in raids on Mors.

Huh, fair enough. It's been awhile, to be honest, and I think I was more focused on the first meeting with our Eshin friend when I first read it. Shame we never got to meet that guy again before they pulled out.
