Silly idea, prepare a food offering for the dragon. I mean sure it has plenty of rats and greenskins to eat... but do you think a dragon would be satisfied with such low class (possibly poisoned and diseased) food?

She owns a copy of WHAT?! And she READ IT?! And she's not crazy?!

What sort of a scheme does the QM have going here?
I don't think they'd be told about the Book, but they would get things like our traits and wonder why we have some of them. But things like the First and Second secret will be hidden as a ???.
Isn't this basically what happens all the time with Anton? :V
Not exactly as when Anton does his thing it's usually in a support roll that while awesome isn't a long multi-post series of choices.
Paranoid Player: "We are housing with the next coming of Frederic Van Hall or Mannfred von Carstein. Maybe Nagash, if we are really unlucky. She probably came here for warp stone in troll mountain. She is the actual secret boss - If we do not do something, K8P is going to explode with several million orcs behind our front lines."

And less paranoid players say something about Matty's not necessary being a necromancer but needing to keep her happy lest she actually becomes one with catastrophic results for everyone involved.
Then the Paranoid players begin combing previous posts that Mathilde is involved in or mentions her backstory at which point they begin constructing a conspiracy theory that is simultaneously close to being correct but completely misses the mark.
MoneyB: "Shenanigans are occurring in the Karak this turn. Let's see if you have to handle it yourself, or if you have to come home and figure out what the hell happened while you were on a diplomatic visit."
[1-70 You're in command.]
[71-90 You're temporarily out of the Karak; Marshal Dreng is in command.]
[91-95 You and Dreng are both away, Skythane Gotri is in command.]
[96-97 You, Dreng and Gotri are all away, Loremaster Mathilde is in command.]
[98 High Priest Gunnar is in command.]
[99 Steward Edda is in command.]
[100 The entire council is simultaneously away by sheer fluke, Francesco Caravello rises to the occasion.]
[MoneyB rolled dice: 97.]

MoneyB's players: OH BOY OH BOY HUMAN WIZARD SHENANIGANS. I barely even care what happens, this is going to be fun.
MoneyB's players: Wait, crap, we're going to miss the Tower of Gazul being used, aren't we?
Then they get Mathilde's perspective, possibly with dropping hints about something that makes the players really interested in some of the ??? on her character sheet.

3: Organized Retreat, every clan for themselves. Eshin fortifies their breeders; roughly 50,000 Mors Skaven filled with the Black Hunger flee towards position in the Caldera.
  • Dragon stays and assaults Eshin. We have to take all 50,000 of those Skaven alone.
    • Meanwhile, Dragon Vs. Eshin plays out like 2B above.
  • Dragon pursues. Not many of those 50,000 skaven make it to our Caldera defenses, but we may have to contend with SUDDENLY DRAGON.
4: Three-is-peace; conflict jerks to a halt as both sides try and make themselves less vulnerable to the giant fucking dragon. Diplomacy is attempted.
  • Dragon doesn't talk or is unimpressed, Skaven die a lot. As 2.
  • Dragon is talked down or bribed off. Skaven go back to short knives. Skaven/Dragon Truce, Pyrrhic Mors or Eshin victory.
  • Dragon is willing to kill only one clan if sufficiently bribed. A bidding war ensues, then a very short fight. Dominating Mors or Eshin victory.
    • Dragon then betrays the living winners. Dragon Total Victory.
    • Dragon fucks off afterwards. Skaven/Dragon Truce.
    • Dragon is willing to continue their alliance with the winners. Skaven/Dragon Alliance.
    • The Eshin leader or Sleek Sharpwit pulls some serious bullshit and manages to stab a fucking dragon in the back. Total Mors Victory, Dragon dead.
  • Skaven successfully blame everything on a third party.
    • Dragon leaves to go hunt orcs/trolls/anybody but us.
    • Dragon leaves to go hunt our forces.
    • Sleek or Eshin knows the details of our attack on Skryre and is able to convince the Dragon we're to blame. Dragon is personally pissed off at Mathilde.
I think you forgot to account for the practical effects of the Black Hunger where, immediately after they stop fighting, the Skaven will need to ingest about a quarter to half their bodymass in food immediately or starve to death on the spot.

Retreat and negotiation needs a phase where they have both time to eat and lots of bodies to eat. They won't even make it past the Caldera perimeter without a feeding
This whole affair has been more beneficial than I could possibly have imagined. My one real concern is that if we occupy most of the mountains, then it may spread our forces thin for the Whaaaag tomorrow, even with the super death tower.
Its actually easier once we clear out Rhyn, because that changes the frontage from Eight Peaks to Two Gates, One Karak Drazh Underway.

We collapse it down to three fronts, one of which is fully covered by a superweapon.

I... I can't decide!

[X] YAR: Make no move until you've scouted the Karag Yar battle.
-[X] Personally.
[X] YAR: Fortify and garrison all entrances to the mountain.
- [X] Clan Angrund, Throng of Karak Azul, Karak Izor Immigrants
- [X] Mathilde
[X] RHYN: Assault the Trolls now.
[X] ZILFIN: Assault the mountain to slay any surviving Skaven.

If Yar and Rhyn empty out (Rhyn because we kill them all, Yar because the dragon kills them all and then goes home), a thing a lot of people have been floating is using the ~15 hours before the Waaagh could possibly get here to barricade them, either conventionally or with controlled demolitions to collapse their entrances. This would force more of the Waaagh to fill up the Caldera instead of just flowing into mountains we can't afford to defend, allowing us to catch more in the Eye's crucial first shot.

I just feel so sorry for Belegar.

"What is the point of reconquering a Karak when I am not doing it to settle grudges, but rather to create a future for dawi... except only way I am successful at it is by abandoning the ways and methods of my ancestors, just like I abandoned their grudges. And you cannot have a future if you are dead and so many who came with me have died already."
*Belebro leaves K8P for a week, and comes back to see it fully reconquered and his enemies dead*
"What is the point of being a dawi king, if an umgi half-beard (if she could grow one) achieves more for killing my enemies and reclaiming my homeland - in a week and with less casualties - than I could in a decade?"
He did put all the pieces we need into position.
And he managed to wait for years until this perfect opportunity showed up.

This is still his victory in some parts, even if he can't see it right now.

Im not caught up but dont asault everywhere at once. Theres no reason to rush now.
The dominant vote at the moment involves us mopping up Rhyn (several dozen trolls spread out in ones and twos over the mountain, should die handily to expert crossbows without casualties) and Zilfin (more likely to be an actual fight, if it turns out there are pockets of resistance the dragon missed, but we have the troops for it).

Of those, I think Zilfin is more time-critical. Don't leave mad scientists in a corner where they have time to prepare and nothing to lose. Just finish the job the dragon started and get out.

How does the saying go? "It was an overnight success, after decades of hard work."

I am legitimately worried about this. Not just that we succeeded so hard, but that he might go "if I had been in command, this would not have worked out as well as it did, because I would have made the wrong call."
We got in one little fight and Belebro got scared, something something and that's how we became the undisputed Dwarf King of K8P?

No no, he'll be okay.

for High King Thorgrim Grudgebearer, clearly, one moment Thorgrim is like "oh I see the latest scion wants to reclaim Eight Peaks again" and the next moment he's like "Belegar did what? How fast? And he got Kragg the Grimm to come? With a wizard? Seven wizards?"
And as a dwarf High King Thorgrim's standard turns are obviously 2 years a piece, just as Belegar's are 1 year to our six monthly turns :)

Im not caught up but dont asault everywhere at once. Theres no reason to rush now.
Rhyn and Zilfin are time sensitive.
Rhyn because once the trolls actually get done eating they'd be a coherent, dangerous foe again(rather than scattered at a WoG concentration of one troll per room(maximum 5 trolls to a room), which ANY of our ranged forces could deal with)

Zilfin...a mad scientist Skaven with nothing to lose can potentially performs all sorts of messy activities, and its better safe than sorry to clean them out.

Yar can probably wait though. The Skaven literally cannot disengage if they wanted, unless they solely disengaged hero units who didn't trigger Black Hunger yet

The problem I have with fortifying around Yar is that in addition to not holding the Dragon, I'm not sure it will hold the Skaven. If somewhere between 50 and 25 thousand rats (after casualties) come out of that mountain like the furriest flash flood since the last time the Winter Wolves had puppies then significant numbers would probably get past us. We just can't kill them fast enough and Dwarves are not one of nature's pursuers.

I mean, isn't a King's greatest victory when his kingdom can win without him?

Technically the greatest victory of a King is the one his army won with him dead on the field.

But we did that once already and I don't think we want to again.

I agree that we should hold off on the skaven-dragon rumble until we get the latest information at least.

but we should definitely hit the other two mountains right now.

This way, we wont have to spend the time doing so later, we ensure that there are no threats to us left in those mountains, and we can begin a survey for fortifying the caldera entrances asap.

Future Mathilde: "If you're referring to the incident with the Dragon, I was barely involved. All I did was give it a little nudge out the door."
At this point, we are "barely involved" with soo much stuff, "barely involved" might be taken as "I totally did all that and is being very smug about it."

Sort of...

Belegar: "...After you repelled Broken Toof orcs that decided to attack your reinforced position with barely a few thousand orcs and no siege weapons..."
Mathilde: "Dunno why they did that. Who tries to siege a fortress with no siege weapons? Did something happen to theirs?"
Belegar: "...You decided to blockade Under-Karagril in such a way to ensure that remaining Skaven are going to stall the Drazh waagh for hours.."
Mathilde: "Well, that's just common sense. Let them fight, as people say."
Belegar "...Then you proceeded to take the Under Kaldera and under-Citadel with minimal losses..."
Mathilde: "It is mostly Kazador's work fault. He looked ready to run off alone if I didn't send him and his army to finally kill something."
Belegar: "Meanwhile, Kvinn-Vyr trolls decided to just... mutually annihilate themself with orcs. For no discernible reason."
Mathilde: "I still wonder about that. They must have been very hungry."
Belegar: "While Skaven and Eshin decided to do the same in Yar, until dragon landed on their heads."
Mathilde: "We talked later; pretty nice for a dragon, actually. A bit lonely, maybe. Asarnil and Deathfang are going to be sooo happy about their new friend!"
Belegar: " And it all started after a campaign of sabotage that provoked Skryre into attacking said dragon."
Mathilde: "Well, actually, I just stole a single gasmask. There was an accident, you see, and I..."
Belegar: "And then you annihilated a million orcs off your tower."
Mathilde: "...Well, you did tell me to build a DOOOM tower. That is just what DOOOM towers do. I tried very hard to make it more useful; still sad Panoramia refused to use it for pest control and agriculture."
Belegar: "Is that all? Do you have anything to add?"
Mathilde: "...It was all an accident?"

/forgive me for this formatting abomination but an actual proper omake would take a bit too long
/I tried to make a joke about a cat deciding to sit on a keyboard rune panel of Gazul's eye but alas, it was not to be
/The troll part is thanks to @veekie

Huh, so we finally get to see her full character sheet, hmm? Makes sense, since she'll be the POV character for this.

Diplomacy: 12+1-1-1=11 - You're social enough among your fellow wizards or the commoners you spent your youth around, but are slightly uncomfortable with anyone else.

Ranalta said:
Hah. So she does have a weak point. Sub-heroic Diplomacy. Not that you'd be able to tell based on her results with the spiders... I guess that leaned more on Learning?

Warrior of Fog: Appreciation of and focus on mastering the fickle fog of war. +2 martial. While in command, +10 bonus to scouting and moving forces unseen, +5 bonus to surprise attacks and ambushes. Unlocks creation of battlefield spells for revealing or concealing troop movements.

Wow. That's going to be very helpful given the current clusterfuck. Thematic too - of course the Grey Wizard is gonna have insight on how to weaponize confusion in warfare!

Avatar: You've had close encounters not only with your own God, but with others, and are growing able to recognize and understand divine energies. +1 Piety, +1 Learning, able to sense nearby divine intervention.

huh. looks like she got a trait for the divine bullshit she pulled off, niiiice.

Disdain for Sigmar: Abelhelm Van Hal died abandoned by Sigmar. You intend to return the favour. +1 Piety due to renewed faith in other gods, will not let Sigmarism flourish in institutions she controls - penalty to institutional actions unless worship of another god is instituted.

oliveolave said:
Um. What? She hates Sigmar? That's new. And concerning. Did we have any hints about this being the case up until now, because I can't recall anything.

PromisedGood said:
Okaaay. That's a weird one. The whole reason the Empire has ties to us is because of the help Sigmar provided. What's up with her?

Shareholder: You are a principal shareholder in the Eastern Imperial Company.

We already knew about this from the earlier character sheet info.

we already knew about the EIC thing, actually.

Morr: You didn't earn the secrets you know of His...

Advanced Morrite Lore: You know the secrets no Priest of Morr should have ever put to paper. +1 Learning

Necromantic Insight: +20 to dispel and induce miscasts against Necromancy. Able to identify (and cast) the spells of Necromancy.
Dhar manipulation: You know the theory behind using another Wind to manipulate Dhar.
Dhar diagnosis: You know how to spot Dhar poisoning, gauge its severity, and temporarily reduce the severity of some of its symptoms.
First Secret of Dhar: Dhar is inherently unstable, everyone knows that. What they don't know is how to turn Dhar against itself. You do. And now you'll never not know it.
Second Secret of Dhar: Dhar could be made more unstable. A tiny nudge in just the right way and Dhar unravels in just the right way to unravel more Dhar, and so on until nothing remains.

... so what you're saying is that she can bring back our dad? SHE'S PERFECT.

Assuming that dragon is not a problem, we will have to control over K8P - it opens possibility of actually facing Drazh waaaagh from behind closed West gate.

There is very little time to prepare, but to be honest, I wonder how risky it is compared to allowing greenskins to actually enter K8P to be burned by the Eye.

Belegar: "Meanwhile, Kvinn-Vyr trolls decided to just... mutually annihilate themself with orcs. For no discernible reason."
Mathilde: "I still wonder about that."
We actually know this reason.
The trolls literally had nothing to eat but insects, rocks and each other for the past...2-3 years.

The INSTANT the Mystery moved, they rushed out to get food. And then they found Mhonar had no food so they kept going. Then they attacked a mountain full of orcs and goblins with a thousand trolls, who managed to get close unnoticed because the orcs and goblins were too busy fighting each other...then they ate the orcs, ate the goblins and what the hell, trolls are green too, ate the trolls.

Moral of the story: Trolls with the munchies can be unstoppable
