The books best defense is that no one knows about it. It's a lot safer in a chest buried deep under our room then it is if we try and deliver it to someone, especially when that someone is really a giant organization where no matter what precautions are taken multiple people will learn about it, and said organization probably has spies if not actually inside the organization then at least watching it very closely.

I think Weber should take charge of army and later give up the book.
You're free to think that :p.

I hope? The stress of academic paper might be good enough relief from other works, but really want to have her take a year off.
Not before the war is won, Abelheim's desk is raided put away for safekeeping and his son is well established at court and knows whose directions to follow which loyal servant's advice to take into consideration.

So I guess in half a decade or so we can take a sabatical year to develop Umbramancy study the Liber Mortis for the good of Stirland and the Empire take a well earned holiday and relax our pretty little head.

[X] The vacuum must be filled. Step forward and take command. Fulfil Van Hal's final legacy in the manner that it begun.
[X] Do nothing with it; your role is to safeguard it.

But we have a liquified magic stuff.

The book is probably in the low end of our priorities anyway. We need to pick the low hanging spells for the magic bonus, we need enchantment for the background knowledge, then the magic juice to see if it can be used in enchantment or other stuff, then maybe the book or the shys-kebabs dependin on results.
My point was that it is raw metaphysical energy that leaks from the Aethyr, and while the current state of the daemon removes any malevolent influence it is still energy concentrated enough to achieve changes states from a gas to a liquid, which makes it hilariously useful, but dangerous.

If we're planning to keep the tome Mathilde will need to install some wards so that anonymity isn't the only protection her home has. Because one of the downsides of her job is that Mathilde will be the target of "everyone trying to get away with skulduggery in the province", and Eastern Stirland is full of vampires some of whom have had time to get good at the intrigue game.

But, if Mathilde goes far enough, Boney could present all-corrupt options.
No, no, no. That's just so clumsy. Instead, you turn Mathilde into a true unreliable narrator.

"You gather materials for your experiments in making Ulgu flavored Dhar."
Never mention that the materials are humans that have been hollowed out so that they have shadows on the inside.

"Bandits attack the village."
Those bandits are actually Witch Hunters and knights.

"You find a tome detailing how to combine godly power with Dhar or other Winds."
It's a book of Nagash.

It's only fair play to do that after players have taken the irrevocable step to damnation.

And that's never "Just learning something powerful". It's actively using forbidden power and thinking you'll be the exception.

How bad an idea is it if we get Webber to drop off the book in a tomb with some nice stone snak?

In other words HUBRIS. Which is bad.
Well, I guess we're lucky Mathilde has shown no signs of overconfidence before.
You scowl. "I am not handled. I am the one who handles."
No. Mathilde's Mystical Matrix is worthy of a paper of sublime profundity, that communicates the earthshaking possibilities of the spell with elegance.
Contempt rises in you, contempt for the wizard who crafted these abominations - they fell to the temptations of dark magic for this? They succumb to the lure of Dhar and this is the best they can do with it?

and now we meet the young van hals? :hope:
also, we should totally swear house weber to van hal's line after this. an Oath of shame to match their own vows

I don't see that; wevew only known one of them.
And? there was only one Frederick Van Hal, didn't stop them from swearing an oath of shame for 1300 years. We idolized Abelhelm, and we failed to protect him. This is where we get our smoke knight idea- a house of spymasters and bodyguards, dedicated to the empire and the Van Hals specifically
Like the White Lotus, but for the Van Hal Witch Hunters

An oath is too permanent and binding. Offer assurance and build the structure first. THEN when we're set up we can go from there.

Same-ish end result but with less inherent risk.

It's also just too early to swear the house to them when, you know, we have no kids and are not currently married.

If we never have kids the oath is useless. If we hook up with one of the Van Hal kids then our oath is also useless.

It can wait until we aren't the only member of the house is all I'm going to say.

Hmmm

Not sure about that. The kid doesn't even know us or is them. I'm not inclined to force our kids to work for the others because of our feelings.

Perhaps find and help instruct the boy?

He'll need to work with nobles well and have knack for Military leadership. Hmmm
