@BoneyM, given the pillar of Dwarf Hell passes through Matty's penthouse, would it be possible to hook up any future defensive additions for the penthouse to take advantage of the Rune of Gazul?

My math was sleep deprived and possibly wrong. And I assumed that dwarfs would build mostly solid with a channel in the middle to guide the magic. Figured they build to last and all that.
Well the beam isn't load bearing and isn't exposed to the elements, it probably doesn't need to be a super solid and sturdy construction to last
Some quality steel of reasonable thickness should be fine for their purposes

It implies that they'd met previous claimants, who's attempts at reclaiming K8P failed. And now the new one is sending a manling to ask for troops instead of coming himself.
The wording sounded like they'd met before, to me.
The 'beg' part could've been worded better.

Anyway, what I'd written was going off of the assumption that they knew each other already, rather than having just met during the expedition, so he was speaking dismissively of someone he knew and didn't think much of, rather than brushing off someone he'd only just heard of.

@BoneyM Had Kazador and Belegar met, prior to the expedition?

Getting it in place would be a sight to see.

If it needs to be a single piece for magical link purposes it'd probably have to be welded together in sections, presumably meaning for weeks people would be walking around portable forges and teams of smiths taking up half a corridor and hammering the ends of two columns of metal together.

It has the screams of the damned running through it.

Lets just leave it be we already have plenty of other things to worry about.

Like getting more cats, helping the spiders, developing new spells, or making the underground a massive pain for enemies to attack through.

Anyway after stealth.... I kind of want to work more on enchantment and power stone making so we can make better items and setups for our allies.

Than again we already have a plenty big backlog.

Our protagonist is a very busy wizard, I do like getting into the habit of making sure we a darn fine job of our assigned tasks though.

Aw, still no interaction with the Skaven prisoner. He'll propably be dead from old age by the time we get to him.

*starts playing the Shawshank Redemption theme music*

So for next turn actions, what are people's thoughts on spending an action on creating the ulgu radar spell? If we can get it done next turn, we can present Belegar with the plans for an updating MAP of the Under-Karaks. It's a great security feature and can get us started on proper defenses against Eshin assassins and their like. Plus, Belegar is probably going to love it almost as much as he loved the Burning Shadows Mountain.

Also, the spell itself is valuable. It's basically primed for adoption by the other magical schools. The soul-radar detects beings who can feel confusion which means the general concept should be portable to other schools. Ashqy to detect beings who can feel passion, Ghur to detect beasts, etc etc. I wouldn't be surprised if a chamon metal detection spell might be possible. It's useful to the college and great for our favor and reputation.

Okay next turn we really need to learn Fucking Queekish already.

Put all the fancy unnecessary shit on the back burner, learn our enemies main method of communication Damnit!

Likely not. Runes don't really do modular on-the-fly additions.

Kazador remembers one of the Angrunds rolling through and asking that Karak Azul throw themselves into the meatgrinder, but he's pretty sure that was Belegar's father.

I mean, this is the first turn we've had the Skaven prisoner, so it seems a bit premature to get antsy about this
Especially when learning Queekish doesn't seem to be in dispute, we're just maximizing by making sure we get an idea of our prisoner first

I think this is missing the part where it involves hundreds of enchanted items at a minimum

I'm just pondering. In terms of "single rolls that have had the most influence on the course of the quest", for quite a while it was unquestionably Roswita's attitude toward mages. As things go on, however, I'm beginning to think whatever roll got Kragg the fucking Grim interested in the K8P reclamation has changed the entire shape of things to come more, on aggregate, than anything else. (Kragg and Thorek, if we're being honest, but while Thorek is...well, Kragg's lesser but at least in his weight class, he doesn't have the same impact on dwarfen culture. One's the greatest living Runesmith by normal standards; the other's a Living Ancestor.)

Was doing a little bit of math.

So, the front page of SV says there was around 5,000 posts today. I'm not sure what counts as "today", but I assumed the last 24 hours.
In the last 24 hours, this quest has had around 43 pages in this thread. At 25 posts a page, that's a little over 1,000 posts.

Literally 1/5 of the posts for the day was in this thread.
Holy shit. That is damn impressive. And Boney's writing definitely deserves it. This is the best quest I've read in a damn long time.

That sounds like a TERRIBLE IDEA. What we have here at present is the possibly sole and definitely greatest collaborative work between the absolute peak of Dwarven runecraft and Imperial wizardry, with a heaping helping of divine blessing to top things off. We maybe, at absolute best, understand a quarter of the wizardly portions.

How about we don't try to tap it for every odd thing in its general vicinity when we have approximately no clue how it actually works? Like, even barring the chance of Gazul taking offense WHICH IS NOT SOMETHING I WOULD LIKE TO CHANCE this is so far beyond our comprehension that...well. Maybe in twenty years we might be able to do it safely. If nothing else came up to interfere with studying it.

Yeah, right.

Now I'm stuck with the image of a wizard with an eye-patch who is unironically going "My eyes burn with with the power of darkness!"

@BoneyM Can you give us some hypothetical results on the table if we were to actually focus the light of morrslieb via telescope?

Like just a couple, from worst to best.

Like are we talking Full Nex "Your thoughts crawl out of your eye sockets on spider legs" or what?

Also needing to develope a better alarm spell than this.
K / Magic Alarm: Creates a silent alarm at a place you touch, and if any creature comes within a couple of meters of that point you will be alerted that it has been triggered. Lasts until triggered, or until you cast it at a different spot.
To enchant them with... that said it is a Lesser Magic for Ulgu so it should be in our winds themes to improve on it.
