This time on Metal Gear Matilde, Ulgu Espionage Action!

Our intrepid protagonist curls up by the fire to read about crimes against everything decent in life, succeeds at spider diplomacy, and yoinks incredibly precious armor from ratmen.

It's a shame we can't get the gromil reused to make a weapon for Mathilde, but as pointed out, it belongs to the dwarves.

Proposing this wording for a runeweapon.

[] [RUNE] A rune sword worth 25 points, whatever Thorek/Kragg/whoever, think is most suitable for someone who war on the forces of disorder and their works from the shadows.
[] [RUNE] A rune sword worth 20 points, whatever Thorek/Kragg/whoever, think is most suitable for someone who war on the forces of disorder and their works from the shadows.

and this for college purchases

[ ] [ENCHANTMENT] Items of Inspiration, Trial and Error, and Law of Logic

Yeah, as insanely valuable as gromril is, it's worth even more as a symbol.

It's a shame Belegar has a crown already, in some ways.

The next one allows your approach, and when the spell hits it, it lets out a small chirp. Then again, and again, and then it pauses. "Sounds begun," it says. "Preceding: front-leg-gesture from not-green-four-leg."

"Hello," says Seija.

There is a long pause, as confusion swirls within the creature. "Sound-with-meaning from not-We. No other-We seen. No other-we smelled. No other-We chirp." Instead of a word, it let out that same chirp, birdlike and almost cute. "Sound-with-meaning from not-green-four-leg." It pauses. "Sound-with-meaning from not-green-four-leg," it repeats.
... This is adorable.

In a Quest with both Anton and Wolf in it, this spider manages to be the single cutest character of them all. I wanna hug them.

Shockingly, your words seem to have installed a spine of steel in him, and the rumour mill is quite abuzz with how Countess Alexandria's eldest daughter put her hands where they weren't welcome and Anton had her escorted under guard all the way back to Sigmaringen with a very sternly-worded note to her mother. You lurk nearby for a while just to be certain, and sure enough, every time Cordula von Halstedt or Stefanie Krebs gets within line of sight of the town's walls, word is passed to the castle and he has the meeting room set up with EIC paperwork and he gets them one or two initialled codicils closer to a rather generous trade agreement. After von Halstedt discovers his daughter has delivered free passage to EIC wagons along the Moot Road, both he and Krebs recall their daughters before any more damage can be done. Anton follows that up by paying a visit to Fort Redemption to speak to Gustav about a suitable firearm; now every ambush with Reinhild Gerber ends at the firing range. Anton's developing into quite the fine shot, and you're not sure Reinhild even has marriage on the mind, as she chatters away about guns the entire time and ends up wandering back to her workshop with fresh ideas before the conversation can move anywhere else, so you're fairly sure any danger from her has been defused.

When you part ways with him once more, he's no less eligible a bachelor, but those that saw him as an easy target are now significantly more cautious and he's no longer besieged. You don't know if he'll be able to find the love of his life out there, but at least now he has the chance.
*Sniff* I am so proud. A shame that Magical Magister Matchmaker Mathilde didn't happen, but it looks like it wasn't needed.

Also, I like to imagine Anton kneed the countess' daughter in the crotch, out of character though it may be.

You are well aware of the weakpoints of the human mind, so even though there's no magical traps you take precautions against the more mundane kind. A roaring fire, a comfortable chair, Wolf curled up at your feet dreaming puppy dreams, a glass of brandy - insulation for the soul. You wait for your hands to stop shaking, and then you turn past the title page you first saw on the outskirts of a battlefield in Sylvania.
I am going to study the most dangerous and explosive kind of known magic. TIME TO BRING OUT THE BOOZE!

[X] [SPIDER] The We can be a welcome addition to the multispecies community of Karak Eight Peaks.
THE WE ARE UTTERLY ADORABLE AND I WILL STOP AT NOTHING BEFORE THEY ARE PART OF OUR CIVILISATION!

NO, I DON'T CARE THAT THERE'S NO WAY THE DWARVES WILL TAKE WELL TO THIS IDEA, I WANT THEM!

[X] [ARMOUR] Make no recommendation.
Eh, it's their thing. They get to decide where it ends up.

[x] [SPIDER] The We can be a powerful military ally against the Skaven.

Spiders and rat, good enough for now.

[x] [UNDUMGI] Make no recommendation.

The least suitable bunch were weeded out, we have no reason to be involved.

[x] [ARMOUR] Make no recommendation.

Dawi business is their own, in the culture realm.

I don't really know what to vote for with the other options, but this seems like a good start.

[] [SPIDER] The We can be a welcome addition to the multispecies community of Karak Eight Peaks.

I would like to vote for that instead, but I think testing an alliance first is still a better idea, especially as long as we can't communicate yet.

Also, I would like to note that Anton did it again. Keep it up, Anton!

I would prefer to spend actions on Self-Improvement rather than comissioning items. Skills and magic are more important to me than possesions.

By the way, do we know how many lessons we can attend at the Grey College in a single action, or should i ping BoneyM?
How many new spells will Johann have learned when he gets back? That is the college teaching question for this turn.

I have to say in an update full of awesome things (Anton's crit and spider allies), the part I liked the most was Mathilde's sympathy for the long dead Vanhells, something I doubt any other reader of that book ever felt. The necromancers would have just wanted power and the Grand Theogonist would have only seen a monster but Mathilde is in the position to actually understand, though she would not have made his choices I think.

With the least suitable candidates weeded out, you'd feel happy to allow any one of these to take command of the Undumgi, but if you decide on one particular candidate over the others, your word carries a lot of weight and would likely decide the matter there and then.
And I do, indeed, like all of them! If it was costing us an action, I'd undoubtedly make no recommendation whatsoever. As it is, I'm going to want to think on it.

Good job, Anton! I look forward to meeting whoever his search comes up with.

No need to fight over future actions with Wolf, too.

This one attempts to sort it out differently by setting up Internal Affairs. That said, its not the most useful without a good policy for them to adhere to.
I dunno; I expect having an Internal Affairs set up would make it much easier to establish good long-term policies.

Works for me.

I just have to say... wow. Much wow.

Firstly the success on the spider option is pretty great.

Secondly we massively scored with the scouting under the Citadel. More dwarf favour perhaps? Even if not the sheer amount of information gathered is impressive. If the Skaven are at each other's throats more than usual then maybe clan Mors could suffer a rather tragic fate.

Last and certainly not least the Liber Mortis has massively paid off. If stable Dhar strands can be made that has interesting implications for a lot of things including snake juice. Even more practically Mathilde can now utterly screw with necromancers and other Dhar users.

though she would not have made his choices I think.

Needs sort of must when the Skaven come calling. It was risky... but letting the Skaven roam around is riskier.

[X] [SPIDER] Present all the options, including the fact that they do not seem to have a concept for lies, and make no recommendation. He's a radical devoted to his people, let him make the strategic choice.

Was there a moratorium for this vote? I think we only need those for bigger votes with lots of choices. Everything else seems to go well enough until now.

Or, if you're so inclined, you twist it the other way, and Dhar disintegrates in such a way to cause more Dhar to disintegrate, and like a single spark striking gunpowder any Dhar construct nearby unleashes all its energy at once, a chain reaction of failing enchantment. No wonder the Grand Theogonist could tear Mannfred Von Carstein's army apart. It required only the faintest hint of power, delivered in just the right spot to start the dominoes falling.
Well isn't that interesting.

If I read that correctly it's not only useful for unbinding Undead, if we manage to do that under battlefield-conditions we can counterspell anyone using Dhar, with a high chance to harm the hostile caster in the same move.

Propably harder to do than to read, but who doesn't love to see a Sorcerer or Necromancer headsplode under our gaze?
