I don't think Mathilde will be particularly hanging back while attacking a place with an airship - I think she'd probably be in the thick of it alongside other warriors to take down soft targets.

One of the few situations in which I can imagine we'd make Mathilde explicitly hang back would be if we ever have to deal with a wizard dangerous enough that we feel that she needs to focus on counterspelling them. Most likely necromancers, to take full advantage of her Necromantic and Dhar Insights, but still.
I am suddenly reminded of the time when we took out Castle Drakenhof.
Imagine if, on top of everything else, we had flying artillery platform.

Also, now having ability to make orbs of sorcery, and learning how to make flying ships.
I feel that it would be a fairly logical next step for the colleges to comission more flying ships.
Not many, like, 16, two per college, and have them captained by trusted wizards, crewed by the empire's elite soldiers and/or perpetuals, with possible battle wizard or two when shit is really going down.
It could potentially add a fairly powerful weapon in empire's arsenal.
And i love the idea of Empire sending a handful of airships to aid the dawi in the silver road wars.

And, well, this is tertiary concern at best, but I also think the Armor of von Tarnus would be better for our dear godson Mandred. He's going to the Brights, so I don't think it'd be weird for him to be a priority for wearing it.
By sigmar, that's a good point. We already know mandred is a meathead, he will want to be in the thick of things... The armor would be perfect for him...
By Morr, how many alternate accounts does Omegahugger have?
"200,000 units are ready, with a million more well on the way."

... I want to let the record show that the correct thing to do would be to leave two reactions on this post at once, since it contains both a very good point and a very amusing response, but the infrastructure of the forums has cruelly denied its full appreciation.

While i admit that the armor is, practically speaking, a not inconsiderable increase in a very narrow subset of our abilities.
It is effectively just a "number went up" for me.
So now we can wear armor, cool, we already were going to make silk robes so it's not that huge an increase.
Especially given i am not exactly that worried about mooks anyway, and there a re plenty of non mooks where the armor would not help.

Flying ship or tower actually do things, they visible increase our options in a way no armor can ever do.
It is a visible flex on anyone who sees us flying it, it allows us to do things we otherwise would have struggled to do, there's potential there for something new and interesting.

Armor is, kinda useful, but not very interesting.
It was already being lent out to wizards, now it is just being lent out to Mathilde for however long the quest goes.
Instead of the colleges coming together to make something new in never before seen (in the empire) scale.
Thing is, when I like a game as it is, I don't want gamechangers.

So I vote for the Armor of Tarnus as a minor upgrade because it is that, while the flying fortress would be a big attention-grabbing thing I don't particularly care about and wouldn't want to spend too much limited screentime on.

If "no boon" had a realistic chance of winning, I'd probably vote for that.

Were getting We Silk in like 1 Turn, that's gonna be the practical armor upgrade y'all want. Airship is a one of a lifetime chance to really get the college together to make a masterpiece. It will have major knock off effects across multiple polities going 'Wait we should do that', doubly so for the dwarfs.

I think we have gotten to the negative vote portion of things, people who were going to choose one of the leading options on merits have mostly done so, which leaves those voting against their least favorite.

Yeah, but it'll never be half as powerful, never have the same awesome wizard knight aesthetic, cost us at least AP, and oh yeah, isn't a legendary artifact going back to the founding of the colleges.

I'm getting pretty sick of people repeating over and over again that the armor is boring, or redundant. Can my fellows at least try to be respectful of what many people find attractive about the option, if not agree with it? Rather than just insulting it?

EDIT: More than one person above me edited or deleted a remark in response to this, which I appreciate, so I'll clarify this post wasn't only because of what I replied to.

People are free to find it boring and redundant. Arguing it is isn't being disrespectful.

[X] Plan Tower of Doom! and Research!
[X] Plan: The Prismatic Wanderer
-[X] A flying warship, suited for both exploration and warfare
-[X] Comfortable for small groups of people to live in for extended periods of time, and capable in an emergency of transporting a medium-sized groups of elite forces from one place to another (e.g. Empire Knights, Dwarf Ironbreakers, Eonir Ghost Striders, KAU scribes)
-[X] Wizardy aesthetic - dragon figurehead on the prow, living tree serving as central mast, bottom possibly wreathed in fog, etc.
-[X] Has magical weaponry and/or defenses (e.g. Dragon figurehead on the prow might fill enemy forces with the fear of death, ballistas on the sides might shoot out fireballs, a Flock of Doom might emerge from a literal crow's nest, etc)
-[X] Possibly needs to be crewed by Perpetuals
-[X] Possibly flat-bottomed to allow for landing on firm ground, if that makes sense vibes-wise

If we want the Wizard Knight Aesthetic, I'd rather cozy up with the Elfs and get a sweet set of Ithilmar. It be exemplifying her aspect of being able to work with other cultures and peoples. I find that a lot more inticing to me personally. Having a witch hunter hat with Dwarven equipment and Elf armor goes hard.

Getting it would seem like a massive wall to get over, but getting a runed sword from Kragg seemed like a impossible wall as well. Also pushes the thread to interact with Elfs more cause I love them.

I do like ilthimar armor as an idea. It's just getting the elfs to part with some will be a hell of a feat...

Same as it was taking Karak Eight Peaks, don't know how high the wall be until we try. Biggest reason why I want to go to Ulthuan is exactly that.

Also cause Boney said a Classroom at White Tower of Hoeth would be excited to see a Human Wizard. It would probably be extremely demeaning but I'd think it be really fucking funny to read about.

Edit: Found it
Like if a puppy wandered into a university lecture.
