Colleges yes, Dwarves no. Approved demonology books help in attempts to understand and prepare to combat them, but are very deliberately unhelpful for summoning or communication.
Would Volans' original accounts for his senses be helpful to us? Would the college have any studies on how the different winds act around different living beings?
With College lessons, you can reliably learn one spell or just stick around and see who's teaching what and have a chance for multiple. But the fewer spells you don't know, the less likely you are to come home with a bunch of them.
This sounds like the perfect action to use Ranald the Gambler on.

Hmm, @BoneyM sorry to bother you, but given how Windreader helped us in deciphering magical phenomena and putting it into words, would Windsage probably do the same for putting the Waaagh stuff to paper, or is that a no go for things like the Waaagh because that was based on observations, and we didn't observe them with our "improved" magesight?

If you try to write that paper and succeed, your deeper understanding with Windsage is likely to be cited as the reason why.

In addition, can the Gambler bonus be applied to reading the Liber Mortis?

There are no success/failure rolls for the Liber Mortis.

I would like argue for
[ ] Establish an outpost of the EIC in Karak Eight Peaks.

I believe this is the most time sensitive option. The other options are important, particurly installing priorities, making the factory safe and creating our network but Kharak 8 peaks is about to be experiencing a goldrush as companies come to set up.

Turns are 6 months long. If we getting the EIC established in Kharak 8 peaks now we have a substantial advantage, whereas if we try to set up in another 6 months we may actually have a disadvantage as other companies have come to fill the void.

Once we're set up, this can have major advantages for information gathering (which the grey college really wants), and we can then focus on the other options.

I feel safe in making this choice, because when it comes down to it I trust Wilhelmina & Anton to keep things on the up and up for at least another turn. I trust her in general based on her track record, and in specific because she has just had Mathilde's status and obligations as a grey wizard shoved in her face again.

Yeah, Guile has a point in that sending him home is needlessly pointless and likely to be in fact detrimental. Plus, what's the point of using him as a minor rebuke if he's not a "journeyman"?

Volans' writings would be part of human books on High Magic. Each College has books on the theory of their Wind, which would cover how they react to living things.

Any chance I could convince you to put the +40 to Woflo instead of the scouting action, I feel like were probably pretty safe when it comes to that and grabbing the familiar bond powers early could make a very big compounding difference. Especially if it's the lucky charms power which given the double blessing of Ranald would fit.

Would you consider using our blessing on the lessons? With luck, we might be able to pick up multiple spells.

So buy books on High Magic and each of the Winds.

EDIT: Just saw the Wolf action. That might be just as good.

Would now-Magister Johann even still be our subordinate? We voted to have him work for us, but that's under his fiction that he's a journeyman.

Indeed.

Guys, really, what point is there to the "graduation" of Johann besides pettiness? Make him actually work for us if you want to be driven by such, but please don't risk alienating him AND taking away from what he can do for us for nothing.
