Concerning going to Cathay, it would be so. Travelling by land would take months, and even by sea it would be very long. In any case, there would be a ridiculous amount of dangers.
And yet it's a single-AP action already available to us. I expect it'd be talking with a caravan factor in Pigbarter rather than going directly to Cathay itself, but that's a not-inconsiderable trip itself, in the complete opposite direction to Ulthuan.

My point was that the actions available to normal turn-planning are geographically all over the place, and only the fact that we've got so many interesting actions at home that we never pick more than one road trip at a time in a given turn makes things even semi-plausible. But there is nothing mechanically stopping us from doing every single "Explore the other waystones networks" in the span of six months if we wanted to, returning to Laurelorn each time to pick up new road-trip buddies for every action. And we'd still have time left over to go visit several other far-flung corners of the map. Because, to repeat, travel time is below the level of abstraction in the quest.

Yeah, it's unlikely to be going to Cathay itself, because that's even farther away than Karag Dum. I wasn't saying you were wrong in general, only in the specific case of going to Cathay.

  • [X] Yes
    [X] Yes
-[X] Find a way to subtly honor Ranald and Halétha in the final copy of the Accords.
    [X] No
    -[X] Specify why:
--[X] Add another clause, inserted before the currently final Clause 8:
--[X] A Clause pushing for some commitment between signatories to maintain participation in a forum where waystone information can be shared. The commitment doesn't have to be as in-depth as the current Waystone Project, but it should basically act as a backstop to make it easier to create a "Waystone Project 2.0" if the need arises once again some centuries down the line, and reduce the chances of the project falling apart if Mathilde gets killed in the near future. Having a diplomatic line open should reduce the chances of hostilities between parties, too.
--[X] Have the clauses be denoted with Classical numbering, such that the final Clause is denoted with an "IX".
    [X] No
-[X] Contrive a way to subtly honor Ranald in the Accords.
    [X] No
    -[X] Specify why:
--[X] Add another clause, inserted before the currently final Clause 8:
--[X] A clause protecting Waystone infrastructure in case of wars and battles. The Waystone network can be fought over, but not intentionally damaged or destroyed.
    [X] No
-[X] Clause 6 should be ammended to include the following statement: "The Library of Kron-Azril-Ungol shall serve as the primary archives for this knowledge, to preserve the understanding of waystones against time and destruction. We will not repeat the mistakes of our forebears, who allowed this knowledge to slip from their fingers."
-[X] Two Additional clauses should be added before the final clause:
--[X] The Signatories are encouraged to send representatives to sit on a multinational Waystone Council. This council will be lead by a Chairperson elected by those representatives, with a term length to be determined by the council. The primary charter of the council will be to monitor and observe the network in all domains belonging to the Signatories, the research and development of waystones, the recording and preservation of all lore relating to waystones, and to advise the Signatories on all matters relating to waystones.
--[X] The Waystone Council will be hosted in the nation its Chair represents, and they may request appropriate facilities from their host to conduct their work.
-[X] The clauses shall be numbered with classical numerals, with the final clause, naming the patron gods of the Accords, being numbered with an "X", to subtly honour Ranald.
    [X] No
-[X] Contrive a way to subtly spell out W.A.Y.S.T.O.N.E in the Accords just for fun.
    [X] Yes
-[X] Have the scribe make the stylistic choice to use roman numerals instead of numbers. Specifically having 8 become IIX.
    [X] No
-[X] A clause shall be inserted into the Bokha Palace Accords which will require each signatory to maintain a member of their government as an expert on the Waystones and the Bokha Palace Accords. The duties of this expert shall consist of:
    [X] No
-[X] Change article to These accords are made and signed under the sight of the Ancient Widow and Dazh, Asuryan and Hoeth, Grungni and Thungni, Ranald and Verena, and Isha and Hekarti.

    [X] No
-[X] Clause 3 specifies 'within their lands.' This implies that Ulthuan, or any other signatory, is not required to provide as complete a map of the Waystone network as possible, on the grounds that sections of it do not exist in 'their lands.' While arcane secrets irrelevant to the project are not worth the effort, this is directly involved. Ulthuan will not dodge providing us a map of any potentially dormant, destroyed, or corrupted Waystones that easy.

so possibly multipe irl years?
If that's what it takes.

We chose to take her on as an apprentice. We made that commitment. That means we don't just fuck off somewhere on an entirely different continent from her for several months, especially not if that means leaving her in a strange place she's never been before.

Sure, Lothern is safe from big gribblies and the like. The main threats to her will be intrigue/social style threats and while yes she's a very promising Grey apprentice she's still a kid who's gonna be dealing with elves who have been doing that shit for centuries.

Our apprentice, our responsibility

It's a yes to change something with just a small majority for what to change.

The yes vote is for not changing it.

Pretty sure we had at least one WoB that it was perfectly fine to do the Elfcation while we have Eike, since we do have places we can leave her to keep learning things without us.

Yes is for not changing anything actually. I assume all the people that voted yes and an alteration did so under the assumption that the addition didn't rise to the level treaty being changed, just some subtle additions to the artistry or whatever being added.

Our apprentice, our responsibility

Our responsibility to our apprentice is not to the level of constant attendance, our responsibility is ensuring she learns what she needs to go journeying (This is basically already done) and don't just totally ignore her for long periods of time (Which amounts to ensuring she's involved in at least one action a turn). She's also not a kid at this point by the local reckoning.

Our responsibility is to look after and teach our apprentice. Sure, that doesn't mean constant attendance but there's a vast gulf between 'constant attendance' and 'fucking off to another continent for several months while leaving them in a strange city'.

Besides, if she's so close to being ready to journey and she's already essentially an adult then surely it isn't much of a wait until she's no longer our apprentice?

Not just local reconing, she will be 18 soon. That is old enough. Mathilde was thrown to deep end as a spymaster at 22.

More to point we do need to have her prepared for the journey and part of that letting her be herself for a time. We already let her of the leash at the coal trade action and she was gone for like a month and we didn't even know where she was for the most of it. At this point it is crying after spilled milk.

What you want our responsibility to be and what it actually is are different things, and I think it's important to make that clear. If you want Mathilde to go above the baseline that's your call. But what you want is not our baseline responsibility and shouldn't be presented as such.

For anyone keeping track, this 59-to-1 vote result officially means the thread( Mathilde) is more interested in pursuing necromancy than they are in sticking it to Sigmar.

This, in its own way, is a victory.

Besides, it's been mentioned that Regimand ran off doing his own spy stuff and dumped Mathilde with substitute teachers frequently, and though that apprenticeship was probably somewhat suboptimal in general, it wasn't bad enough to actually be problematic.

To be clear, dumping her on the colleges with a lesson plan would probably be fine and I'd be somewhat okay with that (although I still think Elfcation can wait a bit, especially if she's so close to 'graduating' like people keep saying), but I would not be okay with doing as people have been suggesting and dumping her in Lothern.

A turn or two ago she spent several weeks traveling the Empire without Mathilde anywhere nearby negotiating a charcoal trade route.

Lothern would be vastly safer.
