You mean in the absence of magic, like when the hordes of Chaos invade? You may wish to fact check your assumptions against the setting. For example, how many days will the Chaos horde experience relative to the armies attempting to meet them in battle?
Thankfully, if we have sufficient warning ahead of time that the Cataclysm spell might be handy, we can make a localised storm of magic type effect by splashing several gallons of vitae around the battlefield. We'd just need to know to bring the stuff with us.You wouldn't be able to use the cataclysm spell without a storm of magic, regardless of whether it's apparition based or not.
Iirc boney said you could dissolve an orb, but that be a mighty amount of magic suddenly in one person and that might be a bit too much.Would an Orb make cataclysm spell easier to cast? Can't you dissolve a powerstone to supercharge a spell or something? What would that do woth an orb?

Nobody's tried it, but it'd probably be something like 'caster can cast one Cataclysm spell, it's impossible to counter, and then they die because they just consumed an energy ball the size of their head'. Their use in enchanting is generally what's focused on.
We would need to have a battlemagic spell to enchant the thing with and we a) don't have any good battlemagic for it and b) can't enchant battlemagic yet.For all the people interested in getting battlemagic, we could build a battle altar. We're about to get an orb for it. That's (maybe) safe battlemagic with possible other bonuses.
We could probably pay to get it enchanted using whatever deed/massive favour pile that we get from making the orbs.We would need to have a battlemagic spell to enchant the thing with and we a) don't have any good battlemagic for it and b) can't enchant battlemagic yet.
I would assume it'd be possible to commision help for such a project. Especially if we were willing to loan it out to the college. We would need to have a battlemagic spell to enchant the thing with and we a) don't have any good battlemagic for it and b) can't enchant battlemagic yet.

Battle altars are too expensive to be outsourced by an individual. When the Colleges can build such things, they do so as contributions to the Empire's military, not for private individuals. Mathilde would have to build it herself, and then would probably still need multiple other Grey Wizards to crew it.
I'd think a battlealtar (with orb) probably is worth more then a wolfship, you can actually replace the wolfship if necessary but the battle altars are generally unique and hard to craft.A Deed would suffice, I think. It can get us a Wolfship; a battle altar seems in the same ballpark.
Doesn't help with the crewing issue, though.

Doesn't help with the crewing issue, though. And ultimately it would probably end up an expensive toy.
... I think we would horrify a lot of people not necessarily just dwarfs... Just imagine the carnage if that thing falls out of the sky mid-cast...We could utterly horrify a whole variety of dwarves and make the gyrocarriage into one.
If it falls on top of the enemy it's called a desperation move.... I think we would horrify a lot of people not necessarily just dwarfs... Just imagine the carnage if that thing falls out of the sky mid-cast...
If you want to get people on board with battle magic, I just gave you a way: start going full on battle altar. I'd be on board with that as a reason. We would need to have a battlemagic spell to enchant the thing with and we a) don't have any good battlemagic for it and b) can't enchant battlemagic yet.

We could definitely build one. We can afford most of the expensive parts ourselves (the orbs and the favor). When the Colleges can build such things, they do so as contributions to the Empire's military, not for private individuals. Mathilde would have to build it herself, and then would probably still need multiple other Grey Wizards to crew it.
Shhhh, don't give away my chance of backdooring into a mammoth! But what would we do with a Battle Alter? We don't have a Mammoth to help us carry it to battle
... I am apologizing in advance for this jokeIf it falls on top of the enemy it's called a desperation move.
They are too expensive to be bought by an individual, and most can't afford to make them, on top of the colleges owning all the orbs. Mathilde is changing that. We have enough favor for the latter. In fact, I'd figure what we'd do with it is 'rent' it out (instead of giving it to the college for a single favor exchange, we'd use it as a source of favor income) and use it when we needed it for personal projects also.
Mathilde's read the Liber Mortis and plans to read the Scrolls of Xandri, Vlad Von Carstein's notes on the work of Nagash. But though she's resisted the temptations of Dhar, there is a spectre haunting the Old World, and Mathilde must resist the greatest temptation of all.
Get the Dwarfs to build a Steam Tank equivalent. But what would we do with a Battle Alter? We don't have a Mammoth to help us carry it to battle
