I mean, yeah, if you got both of them on the task it would be better, but I kinda meant that if you could have one or the other, Thorek has a bit more of the temperament for filling in the gaps that would exist in any source for regaining the knowledge. (or at least, would have a better chance to get results quickly)

(KRAGG emerges from his workshop-grotto, having spent 500 years painstakingly recreating a Thunder Mountain Anvil to his exacting specifications)
KRAGG: "What the hell are all these statues to that shoddy journeydwarf Thorek doing here?"
(KRAGG examines the plaque on the statue "At this spot 400 years ago, the Great Runelord Thorek Ironbrow successfully recreated the Rune of Sorcery, enshrining his place as the Greatest Runelord"
KRAGG: "THOOOOOOOREEEEEEEEK!"

Quite possibly, yeah. Kragg has much more experience from his far greater age, but Thorek is open to new stuff (so long as its old new stuff) and may have better natural talent.

Anyway, a good use of favors would be to get a Dwarven Oath counselor (the guys that talk dwarves out of Slayering) to teach us their tricks.

It'd give us a great deal of knowledge about Dwarves and how to talk to them.

Unfortunately we are on the outs with Karak Kadrin because of the Thorgirmm/Belegar debacle, and cannot benefit from their therapists.

May be tricky. Those are in the employ of Slayer Keep, and that's the karag most likely to side with the High King. Our favor may not be legal tender there.

A nice idea, though.

Edit: shanked by a random gobbo after getting destiny stolen :(

This is a very minor nitpick, but major holds are Karaks, while non-hold mountains or lesser holds (or in the case of 8 Peaks, the individual mountains) are Karags.

Amusingly, there's both Karak Ziflin in the Grey Mountains and Karag Ziflin in the 8 Peaks.

Note. BoneyM said they COULD shun Belegar. Not that they Would or Are.

That seems to be deliberately misinterpreting the phrasing and missing the context of why Boney replied the way he did. Why would he reply to a person asking if Kadrin's therapists could start working on Durin if he meant to say that Karak Kadrin isn't shunning Belegar.

To indicate that them listening to our request is no sure thing and can't be relied upon?

Doesn't the "no favour spend" thing only effect Karaz-a-Karak in such a blanket way because it's the direct seat of the High king, and nobody wants to be seen dealing with us; and other holds associated with the Old Holds would still be likely to be amenable to favour spending?

As in, the very top level of Oath Counsellors probably won't want to associate with us, to avoid embarrassing the Slayer King, but less venerable ones might be willing to teach us because they're not as tightly bound to the Slayer King and therefor to the political schism going on.

I mean even though we're staying in K8P if another hold retaking venture is put together we could always ride out to assist them. Assuming things are stable in K8P. I'd be quite happy to help kick the teeth in of other destro factions.

So found this for if anyone wishes to do a deep dive into Belegar's canon lore

I watched about 40 minutes a couple days ago because I was curious about him, but damn canon Belegar is so different from DL Belegar, to the extent that they're basically different characters at this point. It's really interesting just as a point of reference though.

Honestly, this is one of those situations where Belegar simply retaking more peaks and helping to retake other dwarf Karaks with gold, mercenaries and runeclad elites will slowly ameliorate the situation its own.

It is not an easy way, but it is fairly straighforward.

Pff.
Mathilde The Reclaimer :V Well, that's certainly an option.

I mean, I wager than if Empire or specifically Stirland is in some deep shit and K8P is not on fire, we'll get an option to ride for ruin, glory and the red dawn.
Or ask for a ride on gyrocopter, blasting Thane's Son.
