One assumes that they have some kind of books in Nuln or in K8P, if we want to find out which we can take the action to copy the stuff over at which point the GM would presumably sit down and consider what books they have in light of their history (collapse and all). Whether they specifically lost books in the collapse is not relevant now and is barely relevant after we take the action (it seems vanishingly unlikely Mathilde will rappel down the hole looking for lost Gun Books)
.... But Boney just said the Gunnery School does not have any books that other libraries don't already cover, which effectively means they have zero books for us in either Nuln or K8P. Hence my initial inquiry as to what books we can copy from them, since they weren't listed as a place to copy from in the Info tab, but were mentioned in the narrative itself.

They could have lost all their books since the collapse, it is not like the institution does not have money
The K8P school could have been relevant before this turn (and overlooked), but not relevant this turn because we got into a deal with its parent institution.

The one thing we can be absolutely sure of with regards to that school is that they have some books, that is all Mathilde knows, it could be the three books of dirty limericks that the one professor out on the day of the collapse carried with him everywhere but books exist

Something I have been wondering for a bit is if it would be possible to allow Qrech to read books about other gods (aka Sigmar, Ranald, etc.). The idea would be that Qrech looks at other gods and converts to one of them, abandoning the Horned Rat. Mainly cause I don't want Qrech to go to the Hornet Rat's horrible after life.

I don't think we are forbidding him now, Mathilde would be delighted if he wanted to read that, but he does not.

Maybe we could try to convince him to write a book comparing the Hornet Rat to other gods in the Empire?

With the goal being that Qrech would have to at least give a try to the other god's books.

As for how to convince him we could tell him that such a book would help him a lot to get his Doctorate.

I'm up for finding a few beastmen for Eike to kill, because there's something I've been wondering and I'm not sure if I've imagined it or not.

Essentially, it feels like there is significantly reduced beastmen activity in the Empire at the moment. Karnark One Eye is dead, Morghur is up north, and outside of a brief mention back in the Stirland arc, Mathilde hasn't actually met any.

And then there's this line here:

You edge cautiously around the unmoving and heavily armed group of lumberjacks to follow the woman, the silence stretching as you and Johann are led through the field of stumps, between rows of crops, and towards the village proper. "Have you had any trouble with Beastmen recently?" you ask to break the silence.

"We've not seen hide or hair of the tainted beasts for seasons."

Strange. They'd normally be the first to be taking advantage of unrest in the forests. "No other disturbances?"

"Not until today," she says shortly.

Fair enough.

The Ostermark Hedgewise haven't seen the Beastmen for "seasons"—and they live right in the middle of the Forest of Shadows.

Maybe it's just some form of bias, maybe Mathilde simply hasn't been in the right places to encounter beastmen—but it sounds like beastman activity in the Empire is on the decline, and I'd like to poke my nose in and find out why.

It could just be as simple as "they all died when Middenland and Laurelorn allied together", but that was over a decade ago. Surely their population would have recovered by now? So where are they?

That's because Drycha and her Wargrove of Woe were hanging out nearby and have been there for seasons, we showed up to investigate something like a year and a half after we first heard reports of something happening in the area IIRC.
Morghur came from Bretonnia I think (his usual hanging spot is the Forest of Arden).

That's possible, and if the Beastmen have moved back in, well, that's not fine, but it is normal.

See, that's the problem with my gut feeling—Beastmen simply haven't come up often enough in the narrative to start pointing fingers and say "something's weird with them".

Who knows, maybe I'm wrong and Beastmen are just as active as they have ever been? Maybe they are increasingy in activity? There's nothing concrete to justify any stance on the subject.

Although, that said, your mention of Drycha did make me think of something. Drycha was an Everchosen candidate, and she was also accompanied by a manticore, which is a chaos beast that lives in mountains—not forests.

That suggests that it might have been a gift or blessing from the Four, which in turn suggests that she already defeated another candidate—perhaps the leader of the Beastmen of Ostermark, thus reducing the amount of Beastmen in the area.

In canon it's referred to interchangeably as either 'the Universität' or 'the Universität District'.
If that is canon you should be totally fine using quarter if you feel like it fits better, based on the precedent of Universität District. It just sounds weird to someone that speaks German. Held hammer (Heldenhammer) or kind garten (Kindergarten)* would sound equally weird. The word ends in '-tät' so the 's' is expected if you form a compound. Since Konigs(-)tag got changed to King(-)day in modern Reikspiel, and Heldenhammer ( I'm assuming that 'Helden' is the plural of Goblin) is also archaic according to the wiki, Universität might just be an archaic term and modern Reikspiel uses different rules to form compounds, and I was mistaken when I criticized your usage of 'Universität quarter'. I'm sorry if I caused any confusion.

*Although this 'rule' exists just to mess with people. Meat from a cow? Rind(-)fleisch most of the time, occasionally Rinder(-)fleisch in northern Germany, sometimes Rinds(-)fleisch in southern Germany. Minced meat from a cow? Rinder(-)hackfleisch. A soup made with meat from a cow? Rind(-)fleischsuppe. Roast beef? Rinder(-)braten or occasionally Rinds(-)braten.

Regimant was shanking beastmen right after that fight and then Asarnil smacked down whatever left of them on his way out. And considering Shadogave is stuck up north beastmen as whole might be on the back foot for some time since they lack both numbers and leaders.

There's still a number of notables that should still be around (and Morghur was always more of a Bretonnian entity).

Mathilde hasn't really dealt with them much at all, but she was mainly staying in the parts of the Empire- and beyond- where they're less likely to show up anyway.

At this point I like the idea of for Eike Study just writing Intrigue and letting the details fall out however Boney thinks is most interesting. We can't exactly assign her to a Ranger detail, cool as that idea is; we're not anywhere in a Karak's chain of command, and while we obviously have a ton of respect, that doesn't translate to "able to insert her apprentice into another Guild's work." If we really want to get specific, we could assign her to study codes with the Hochlander? Our boy Rudiger is into ciphers and that's a useful Grey skill. Or we could just pay 1CF and send her to pick up the basics of Enchanting at the College, that would be fine too.

I also support taking her out on something moderately dangerous, but don't think there's a good choice in this coming turn. Maybe the turn afterwards we can bring her on some Waystone field work?

I don't know if I'd categorise the waystone work as "moderately dangerous". There hasn't been a hint of danger about any of the standard actions done in that category so far.

Edit: Maybe if we go out of our way to one of the tributary actions marked specifically as dangerous, but then I'm unclear on whether that means dangerous for project members or for the people who are actually going to be installing the things; going by this turn's Stirland action, it's mostly a teaching job for the former. I guess we can always bring her and let her "go play" with the local militia while the work is going on.

Just writing 'intrigue' feels like dropping way too much of our responsibility on the GM, it's a bit like writing in an action that says 'Do stuff to gain college favor'. Intrigue is not a thing in character, it is a mechanical abstraction

It's true; I was envisioning one of the Nexus actions in semi-hostile territory. Forest of Shadows is probably out of the question, but Bugman's is no longer friendly soil but shouldn't have anything too badass.

Fair enough, but something like "Scouting" or "Disguises" or "Infiltration" should be enough to go on. We also don't want to overspecify.
She's already a coder if she knows Eltharin. Coding is why grey wizards get taught the language.
Sure, but there's a difference between knowing how to do ciphers and being good at them. I have studied enciphering and deciphering in college and for my work, but I'd struggle to perform a Kasiski attack by hand without consulting my notes, and I'd be slow at it. Rudiger is a bit of a specialist at them, so learning tricks and subtleties from him is a totally reasonable option, IMO.

Would the FoS or Mordheim be too dangerous? We'd presumably have all of Web-Mat with us (and probably also Aksel for the FoS?)

I don't know, we're lacking the convenience we enjoyed in K8P of nearby scouted Skaven positions basically prepared for Ducklings.

At the moment, we don't know Eike's Intrigue score or any skills she already has in that field. It makes assigning study for it a little difficult and is why taking an Intrigue action with her to see her in action first is probably the better way to start.

Maybe now's a good time to have the EIC infiltrate one of the players in the Nordland/Middenland/Ulric/Laurelorn kerfuffle and have Eike assist. Rite of Way bridge can wait a turn, perhaps.

Is Eike 16 years or older? She can shoot, stab, sneak, and spell, so if she's of proper age, she may be old enough where we could send her out to do stuff for us. Good way to get some experience, hone her skills and talents, that sort of thing.
