[INFORMATION=Did I stutter?]
After all that this thread has gone through over the past week, you insist on making it personal.

It is understandable to be frustrated with quest votes. It is understandable to be upset about things not going your way.

But the next poster who lobs a backhanded snipe at someone else or who attacks other posters, even tangentially, is going to get a 3-month threadban and 50 points.

If you cannot bring down the temperature on your own, I will do it for you.
[/INFORMATION]
THANK YOU! I wish people would stop with this insanity. This is a place to have fun there is no reason to be super serious and get personal about crap.

You know, I was sold on the Karag Nar Penthouse, but then I realized that we might want our laboratory to be a bit offsite in case of Miscasts and/or Explosions and/or Warp Fuckery.
I'm going to change mine to
[] The Grand Abyss
Edit: Edited my original post, just want this opinion to be seen publically.

That's why I'm voting for a Karag Nar penthouse as a public office, and then the Shrine to Ranald as a secret work area.

Better to have both be in safe areas we can get the dwarves enhance rather than somewhere outside the hold, currently not secure, and where the dwarves have never even ventured.

@BoneyM how does the rule of pride apply to a potential weapon/staff? Does any of our runes count as a jealous rune (meaning our weapon will never be as good as our belt)? Thanks a lot for the effort you're putting in this quest, it's a lot of fun to read.

I wonder, if we chose "Destroy the energies" and the belt succeeded at wounding Mork, would Kragg smile after hearing about it?
I doubt it, it is not the traditional use of a belt.

He would like hearing about a large greenskin getting wounded, but be exasperated about the silly manling doing it in a manner that could probably make Karaz-seven-and-a-half-peaks.

[X] The Grand Abyss

[X] Claim the site where Ranald mugged Mork and build a shrine to Ranald there.
[X] Write a series of papers on the magical phenomena you witnessed. Or better yet, get your Journeymanlings to do the actual writing.
[X] There's a growing concentration of royalty here. Get to know King Kazador, and this 'Sky-Thane' Prince Gotri.

[X] This is Dawongr Weber's money. The funds will largely go projects within the Karaz Ankor - your tower for one, but also investing in the Undumgi or Ulrikadrin, or purchasing goods made by Dwarven artisans or sold in the markets of Barak Varr.

Rule of Pride means that when called upon to craft a weapon for you, the Runesmith will tend towards creativity rather than a predictable runic combination. This has the double benefit of being more interesting.
The Jealous Runes means there can only be one of specific Master Runes, not Master Runes in general. As weapon runes are different to talismanic runes, this should not be a barrier.

One thing about the various peak top options, we can put in a terrace garden and allow Wolf some fresh air and a poop. Can't do that perched over the Abyss or the tower of a dedicated fort like the Citadel. Of course among the Halflings we can take him for walkies without hundreds of steps but the valley is not particularly good for a lab and personal vault.

Edit: Another problem with Abyss is that we'd have to get our place built from scratch including crazy arches to support it in a really inconvenient place. That should take months (years if it were humans doing it) and lots of money for the work even for us. Karags Nar and Lhune have existing rooms which we can start using in short order.

And I don't want our lab to be the first thing destroyed when Something Nasty comes from below.

Two time options I feel are most important. The deep scouting should give us a starting point if for knowing if there are any ticking time bombs and if we don't write papers now memories will fade more.

While I get that people want to keep the ambers here, I don't see much use. We're going to be action-strapped anyway, better in my mind to just send the eggs to Amber college and the odds of the spiders being both sapient and possible to negotiate with are low enough for me to feel comfortable disregarding them.

[X] Karag Lhune secondary peak

Lots of room for specialized research, near Dwarf central for serving in their council, secure without us needing to invest actions, and separated enough that risky experiments are unlikely to impact others.

I get you're joking, but I'm not sure the Dwarves took any of it. Looting their dead enemies isn't massively their style, and the only thing I think they'd have kept would be the Phoenix Crown, which has more to do with the symbolism than anything else.
Per Grudgelore, dwarfs do plenty of looting like basically anybody else, but they prefer to use the loot as materials rather than trophies. These 'drengorlaz' have their origins carefully recorded as reminders of history, as well as the purpose to which they are put - thus the possessions, furnishings and even the architecture of a hold is invested with the history of its clans. I believe there's a note about how there's quite a few ithilmar belt buckles floating around as trophies from the War of the Beard, for example.

@BoneyM Can we (eventually) get a scale of favors for artifacts so we can better judge what to spend? I don't think the thread has a good concept of how much favor is worth for magic items. On our first big purchase, rather than buying a 2 to 5 favor healing item, we instead spent all 9 of our College favor on an OP healing item. Then, later on, we spent all of our 15 favor on a belt where each of the three hybrid runes by themselves would be powerful enough for an artifact on its own. My point is, 15 favor isn't seen by the thread as comissioning a legendary, one-of-a-kind item. It's the minimum, the baseline floor to which even more expensive and greater items might be obtained. And I think that's nuts. Maybe we really will want to buy something like a 25 favor sword, but we just as well might be better served by a "mere" 5 favor sword, and right now people have no sane point of comparison to judge between these kinds of extremes. You have a scale of non-artifact purchases, but it's like comparing apples to oranges.

(Hopefully I'm making my point much better than my previous post where I totally flubbed it.) :(

The first possibility that leaps to mind is the uppermost dwelling of Karag Nar, with a beautiful 360-degree view and a commanding position. The Black Orc Warboss' reasons for taking it for his own are obvious, and though it will take some time and effort to clear out the possessions that hadn't been safely stowed in the King's Armoury, it is bursting with potential and would allow you to keep a careful eye on the Undumgi and Death Pass.

This suggests a future assisting Karak Eight Peaks with its reconquest, as a Spymaster focused on threats within the Karak.

I had all these questions I wanted to ask before voting, but I couldn't and still can't find the time to follow the thread this cycle. So I just looked at the tally to see what to do with my vote before the deadline and may ask my stuff next update if it is still relevant.

I've said that 10 favours is the conventional maximum, and higher amounts are only possible with access to the likes of Kragg and Thorek. I've said that 25 is right on the very edge of what is possible, and I've said a number of times as people name ridiculous amounts of favours that even Dwarven craftsmanship has a limit. I don't think this is a matter of misapplied scaling, I think this is just an inherent part of what a lot of Questers like, which is the biggest shiniest shineys that ever shined, and there'll always be a faction for "there is a point where we needed to stop and we have clearly passed it but let's keep going and see what happens".

That said, the previous rules of thumb still apply, which is 10 points to the favour and have at the Dwarf Army Book, and very approximately one favour per casting value for battle magic.

personally, I'll be advocating for a 20 favor greatsword, having such an amazing weapon will definitely help with getting more favor in the long run, as well as just making us more killy in general.

How public is this area? I'm having a difficult time imagining it.

[ ] Karag Nar temple
Your previous 'tower' was nothing of the sort, and perhaps you wish to continue that trend. If so, the site of you and Ranald triumphing over Gork and Mork would certainly be equally auspicious. It's a convenient distance from the population centers of the Karag and has a nearby side-entrance you could properly conceal and keep for your own use. (note: if you don't choose this as a tower, you can still use it in the future for a shrine or some other purpose. Nobody but you, Belegar, and Kragg know its significance, and everyone else just sees it as a former greenskin temple an inconvenient distance from the rest of the Karag.)

You're not sure how the Rangers discovered this entrance. Far from the wide-open hallways of Dwarvern construction, this one is a fissure that either opened naturally or was dug out by someone a great deal smaller than you, and requires squeezing through a gap so narrow that you have to take your sheath off and push it through first. It opens up eventually, and several natural chambers lead into one another before it suddenly drops into a section of now-familiar Dwarf-carved corridor, albeit one that has suffered the ravages of time worse than any you'd seen previously.

---

Your corridor eventually feeds into ones lit by crude torches, and you take some time to let your eyes re-adapt before you press onwards, darting between patches of darkness. Your ears eventually lead you to a cavern, and you take a glimpse inside before ducking back into the corridor, careful not to silhouette yourself for those inside. Greenskin temple, you register.

anyone voting for the abyss, don't forget that being that far unbderground will make magic very difficult to work with- recall how mathilde could barely see in the underway and karag nar, due to the grounding effect nerfing her ulguvision

[X] Citadel Tower
Third, the Citadel is being repaired of the damage that Kragg and cannon dealt to it, as well as three thousand years of neglect, and though the two towers were once a key part of its defensibility, with the only enemy approach being within the caldera that height advantage should no longer be needed. It makes for a much more traditional Wizard's Tower than one in a mountain peak, and though it's currently part of the defensive line against the untaken parts of the Karak, that also means that there'll always be plenty of protectors on hand, and perhaps you'd like to be able to help repulse any attackers.

Clearly if we spend all our favors to commission a magic item and 10 is the conventional limit we should get "The Best Box"....
"Are you Solid Snake?" "Some call me that."

I did. Words are hard.

Was just making a joke, sorry.

Anyways, when we do get our sword, I'm going to advocate asking for an "assasin's greatsword" rather than a just a greatsword. Cuz that's what we're good at and what we'll want to use it for, especially against enemy Orcs and Skaven. We still don't want to specify specific runes, but I think giving a general theme of what we intend to use our sword for will give better results than just specifying a point value by itself.
