That's fair; i admit i hadn't been thinking of it as "and then the events with renald further improved the crits", because i assumed that the explicit +20 that *made* the crit in the first place was all we were getting from that direction in this case, with almost all of the benefit of the empowering being tied up in the direct relic reward from the actual event. I guess i underestimated how long lasting that empowerment could be if it still let us 'double dip' on bonuses this turn X-)

Also hadn't realized that it would be as obvious as the wheelbarrow re: the downside; i'd assumed we were just carefully keeping all the halfling coins max picked up for us, instead of turning them in as shares :p

Still plan on pushing the 'donate it all (minus tithe) to renaldian causes and shrines' option for what we earmark it for, once that option comes up, just feels both appropriate and less likely to result in more power gaming :)
Power gaming is kinda important since we've gotta make a bunch of things happen to survive the End Times, and whatever chaos does after it.

I kinda hope Roswita is still elling off parts of the Haunted Hills when we get back, being promoted from a knight to a baron seems like a good career move.

Not necessarily.

Mathilde is a Grey Wizard first and foremost. That's what's gotten her in a position to be powerful and rich in the first place. Considering that flashy titles of nobility aren't necessarily good, particularly not with a hostile Elector Countess whom Mathilde would find it hard to influence.

More modest investing, getting rid of debt and buying favours with the Grey College and financing personal research would probably be more useful overall.

If Mathilde is still kicking around 2530ish and I'm looking for a new metaplot don't be surprised if something starts rampaging from the terrible north, but don't count too much on the details being anything like The End Times.

Not without having favours to cash in from the Emperor or the Imperial Zoo. You could try to commission the theft of an egg but you'd have to raise it.

Pegasi are attainable with cash and College favours, though.
Huh, the Imperial Zoo can do it, but not the Ambers?
We are ignoring the End Times because that is a silly time filled with bad plot points and stupid amounts of evil plot armor.
We still need every scrap of an advantage we can reasonably get our hands on.

Because Warhammer.

I'm kind of fine with some of the basic ideas of it, Nagash returning, Chaos invading and the Skaven getting their shit together all at the same time, I think it could be pulled off well.

Ambers could do it but they'd need an egg to start with. The Imperial Zoo are the ones that can supply them on demand.
So, open a bounty on a griffon egg, try to hook our journeymanlings to help us join the kittybird club?

Or does the Imperial Zoo accept... donations?

@edit: How would they like some dinosaurs to add to their exhibits?

Oh I think the idea could work, just that a lot of the stuff from the End Times such as the whole "Lol Malekith was actually right about being the true phoenix king, he just needed to stay in the fire a bit longer" and the like would need to be dropped.

Thinking about it, I want Mathilde to publicly declare that from the shares she won she is going to set up a widows-and-orphans fund for the humans who died in the campaign. It's public charity, reassures those who have peeps back home, and lets her imply that the share she is keeping is much smaller than it is.

With Stirland and Sylvania heavily represented, this would push cash back into the province. Would probably make her well regarded with the northerners too, when they all get home.

Plus, it protects the weak and innocent. Renald would approve, I think.

That is very... saintly. But I think in the long run helping to develop less explosion-prone mages will help to ensure that there are fewer widows and orphans overall. I would be fine with a minor donation to something like that, but not spending all our money on that.
