I know it's only phrased like that because the quest is in second person, but it amuses me to think of Mathilde just blurting out "You." in response to the Dean's question, only to have to chase down the cackling Dean before he makes Eike his apprentice, all the while trying to explain that, no, she actually meant to say "Me", but accidentally said "You" because her internal monologue is in second person and can he please slow down and stop laughing?
... I was waiting for the vote to close so that I could complain to Boney about how I wasn't ready to have an apprentice, and also how he was going to have me teack Ekie when Ekie, the colleges and magic kinda don't exist!?

But 'the Dean' is funnier :p

You know, getting Vlag to let us copy all of their books for the Library might be a pretty good use of their Boon? I imagine an entire hold probably has a whole bunch of books, and it answers the somewhat awkward question of what Vlag can actually do to pay us back when they're currently not in a position to do much of anything beyond re-establishing themselves and being nervous about the open sky.

It's maybe a bit small for a Transcendent Boon, but it's something we can actually ask them for that they can achieve and might not otherwise be willing to and I can't think of anything Transcendent-sized they can even do, except possibly march to war which we won't want to ask of them.
If it comes down to it I guess we might end up using the boon, but will they really be so reluctant to share their books? We almost checked out their attitudes about a book agreement at Kazrik and Edda's wedding, but that option lost by a single vote to the order of guardians, so we can't know for sure. But in my opinion there shouldn't be any problem if we offer a mutually beneficial agreement where Karak Vlag also gets copying rights from our library.

Hmm. Would it be possible to use a WEBMAT action to train Eike in something?

Like, uh, train her in Windsight together with Johann?

Windsight fits Eike's "build" really well, and I think it could make it a lot easier for her to find ways to be useful(an extra set of senses is helpful when we're so involved with esoteric magic stuff for the foreseeable future), and would add an extra boost to the whole "learning through observation" thing that Apprentices are supposed to do.
I want Johann to take Eike around Laurelorn for diplo practice after a few turns of her getting settled.

Maybe she could second the Hochlander to learn about instuition espionage?

Also looking forward to a social with Mathilde, Eike and Oma.

Or maybe Mathilde and Regimand where Mathilde asks for advice.

I'm wondering how many books will even be left in Vlag. It might have been they weren't able to recover anything from the libraries, or didn't focus on protecting them

The idea of getting books from Karak Vlag originated in this reply from Boney about who might have books on the fire spire:
Barak Varr to Erengrad is about five thousand miles by sea, which is something like Helsinki to Rome or London to Miami. And Erengrad has a fairly significant Elven presence. So Barak Varr is probably not the answer here. Considering how long ago the Fire Spire fell and how much the Colleges have come to prominence since then, you'd need some theoretical Dwarven Karak very close to Praag who would have had some need to preserve every insight into the nature of magic they could get for the past two centuries and no opportunity to trade those books away to the Colleges...
From this we can deduce that Karak Vlag preserved any books on magic they had. How much is that? No idea. But I'm very willing to find out, both because of the potential for books that are had to come by elsewhere and because I just want more Vlag dammit.

Hoping there'd be some private wining and dining conversation over filtered water and translucent subterranean gecko-mushroom stew this time? ;)
"It is an invitation that should only be made to someone you were already quite familiar with, and in private."

Some time ago, Codex brought up whether it'd be possible to use Runic arrays or something of the sort to help in library preservation, and Boney said this:

A large-scale deployment of this sort of thing would require either a single large-scale and extremely difficult Runic array, or a lot of individual Runesmiths who don't mind mass-producing Runes, so that would require a KAU action to either recruit a Runelord or bring in Vlag once the library is up and running.
So that's a possibility for the Boon, too. They do have a lot of Runesmiths that can do simple runes by their own admission. Though, the thread speculated at the time that bringing in Vlag would likely be seen as supporting them, so it should really be left until after Thorek presumably breaks apart the Runesmith's Guild and puts it back together.

Yes, Eike is reaching regular Apprentice, the middle third of the Apprenticeship. Senior Apprentice is still about three or four years off.
This is I think also the point when Wilhelmina was expecting to be able to resume training Eike into the family business of Being a Trade Mogul?
"The first stage of her training would take three to five years, and would require her to stay within the confines of her College. After that it would be possible for her teachings to be continued elsewhere - the EIC would easily have the resources to organize facilities and tutors."

"Three to five... probably closer to three than five, she's sharp. So she'd be fourteen or so... that... shouldn't disrupt things too much..." She closes her eyes for a while, her brow furrowed in thought. "Okay. I'll have a talk to her, let her know. Will you take her to Altdorf?"
If so, it seems likely her Grandma will have some expectations of training time with Eike, too, which we will need to discuss with her.

Well, it seems that whichever unlucky bastard is in charge of K8P branch, they are having another stressful meeting with 56% of shareholders in near future.

She has expectations of Eike being within tutoring range of an EIC branch, which she will whenever Mathilde is back in K8P.

Probably no time for personal tutoring from Grandma Wilhelmina then. I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing. Still, I would think we'd set aside some time for a few visits to Wilhelmina every now and again. She is getting on in years and doesn't have the privelige of magic lengthening her lifespan.

Mathilde and Wilhelmina are trading partners, I'm sure they see each other more than the brief socials we have every few turns, it's just that those visits are not significant enough to make it into the text.

This makes me vaguely sad and it's unfortunate Wilhelmina can't go Heidi's route of getting youth from the Shyllans - also because it looks like Eike wants to be a nerd-grey as opposed to a buisness-grey.

I'm at a loss as to who we could get to take Wihelmina's place in our intelligence org. :/

Amyway, am gonna be hammering any Wilhelmina social options.

Totally unrelated; Boney, who has the better bathroom, Mathilde or Heidi?

In today's edition of r/MildlyInteresting, I'm reading 4th Edition WFRP the core book and they're talking about a rule regarding more than half your teeth, and it's strangely informative. Humans have 32 teeth that's a given, but they also give numbers for Elves, Dwarves and Halflings.

Elves have 36 teeth, Dwarves and Halflings have 40 (Page 180 WFRP 4th Edition Core Book).

Must suck for the elves to get wisdom teeth.

Elf teeth I would speculate probably pull a similar trick to rodents or insectivores (biting through trees/living armor isn't easy my dudes)that require very strong teeth in that I'd be willing to bet they bond metal to it, probably some fantasy trace metal found on ulthuan that doesn't distort the color though.
