When CA asked GW to give them lore for Cathay to build on for Total Warhammer 3, GW made a full lore book in the style of 8th Edition and made it available as a physical copy such that Andy Hall, one of the writers, was literally perusing it in the middle of a podcast to answer questions. This is despite the fact that a good portion of that lore wouldn't end up in the game. And while it is indeed likely that they're going to be reusing that lore in the official publication for the Old World, I have some serious doubts on if they ever planned on that before CA asked them for authorisation to use Cathay.

Why can't they do the same for other factions? Just create a lore book to consult? I have no idea. My suspicions is that GW has priorities and 4th Edition WFRP is bottom of the list compared to stuff like 40k and Age of SIgmar. Even Old World is being dripfed with a single piece of small news every 4-5 months.
I mean, the RP isn't even GW-proper. They contracted that out to Cubicle 7.

They've always contracted out for the RP (apart from 1st edition, I think)

Given their stance on having a single canon in the first place I honestly suspect that a significant fraction of it is a desire to be avoid being tied down by previous decisions. If they've got a formal lore book like that if they want to change their mind on something that represents a formal retcon rather than "fuck you it's all canon even if it contradicts itself."

True, but Cathay will come to the Old World in time.

(whenever the hell that finally arrives, anyway)
Yeah it will, but I have serious doubts on them ever deciding that if Total War hadn't asked for it. You could also make the argument that Tilea and Estalia should also come to Old World, so maybe they should have a lore book for that too and they could give it away to contractors that are making/updating the setting right now, but it doesn't seem like they have.

Golden Magus being a Chaos Sorceror is very frustrating to me as someone who's been desperate for any Arabyan character who's not just downright evil. I distinctly remember many of his details as a result.
Edit: Oh, Golden Magus.

Hasn't appeared. Don't think Boney's given any WoG.
He's given an informal reply, which shouldn't be taken as WoG, but it's better than nothing:
If he hasn't been butterflied, he'd be somewhere in his teens, by the look of him.

If we get a chance to prevent cannon I am all for it because he sounded like he would be friends with Mathilde. A powerful wizard that sounds like a con artist and claims to be the Sultan of the Seas. The con artist part also fits to be a follower of Randal.

Unless he comes to us, or does something that inadvertently gets Mathilde's attention, not sure what we could do about him.

That doesn't mean I wouldn't for recruiting him, for fun and to flip off the canon timeline if nothing else.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the thread doesn't seem super keen on going into more recruitment drives for the moment. If any recruitment is done, it will most likely be to bring people who are close to us, and god knows there's a lot of close by organisations, before we consider taking a jaunt into far away largely unknown Araby. I won't deny possible usefulness coming from there, but I wouldn't hold my breath on ever exploring that part of the world.

If anything is likely to ever drive us to Araby it's probably finally getting to work on Apparition binding because checking if there's anything useful to crib from Djinn binding is a really obvious thing to do.

I doubt actually going to Araby is in the cards - isn't it basically just as underdeveloped as Estalia or Cathay? That would be an awful lot of worldbuilding for a single recruitment action.
Boney's already posted more about Araby than what we know about Estalia. He had that whole post where he went over their history.

It's really hard to overstate how little attention Estalia has historically gotten.

Edit: This was Boney's statement circa September 2019.
Bretonnia, Kislev and the Border Princes would be fine, Estalia and Tilea wouldn't hold up well to a prolonged visit, Araby is... fairly well fleshed out but is a little too close to some geopolitical hot topics for me to be entire comfortable with it. Ind, Cathay and Nippon are right out.

Eventually we should consider looking into wizards there for knowledge they may have. Be a good opportunity to recruit or make Allie's.
Ok...
I'm not sure how you expect Mathilde to suddenly go veering off to Araby to try to flip Magus though?

She's most likely never heard of this random Arabian Wizard to start with
And even if she somehow does, what's the plan exactly?
Drop everything to go all the way to Araby, where Mathilde has no contacts, information or influence?
Spend however long it takes to track down Magus and then convince him it'd be a great idea to share whatever knowledge he has with us because...?
Like I get the idea is some kind of quid pro quo, but what if he's not interested in this random foreign Wizard showing up and asking to compare notes? What if he's not friendly? What if we just can't find him, or difficulties present themselves?
Do we just spend however many turns it takes trying? Would it even be worth all that time and effort? Arabian magic could easily either be incompatible, and/or we could have maybe achieved functionally similar results by exploring our own methods in that time: Working on creating our version of Gehenna's Golden Hounds instead of trying to pry Djinn secrets for instance.

This applies to the idea of running around recruiting/befriending important people in general
Like sure if the opportunity just happens to present itself then by all means, but how exactly do we expect to actively seek out and spontaneously befriend powerful Wizards here?
I doubt we can just direct Mathilde to Saphery and suddenly be pals with Teclis in the span of a few turns

Sure it's very silly to expect Mathilde to Mathilde her way into a relationship with a SPECIFIC figure but Mathilding around is actually a pretty good way to end up building a relationship with SOMEONE important when you look at the track record.
