I also feel like Boris might be a little put out that he opened his hopes and dreams to mathy (and his bottomless wallet) and she still picked the elves and their sexy, sexy books.

might be a little awkward.

@Boney Thank you for the excellent update. Might not be making a reaction post for a little while, so take my appreciation ahead of time.

I like the idea of the Longshanks, to further create ties with that organization, and the hedgewise, to see what kind of people they are and if it's worth developing further relations with them.

@Boney

I assume this doesn't have to be a choose one situation?

[ ] The Ostermark Hedgewise
[ ] Ice Witches

I'd be interested in going with this and using it for a recruitment push next turn for the waystone project with the connections we build.

I like the Ice Witches. They're on the other side of the border which tackles the problem of whatever it's that is causing problems jumping to the other country, plus, it could be a great in if we want to recruit them for the Waystone project.

Would we know who to ask to see as Hedgewise contacts due to Kurtis?

Yes.

@Boney, what about our EIC action:
-[*] EIC: Try to uncover what's going on in Gryphon's Wood.
Did the EIC just fail to uncover anything?

Lots of data, but no context to make sense of it. The EIC has zero presence in Ostermark so it was basically the Hochlander flying solo, and he uncovered pretty much what Johann said: something's up, but nobody can agree on what. His contacts or reports might come into play later, depending what Mathilde finds out or who she gets in touch with.

@Boney Are we limited to approaching one group, or can we approach and get help from multiple groups?

You'd be able to approach further groups after the first one if that's what the thread wants to do, but the more groups Mathilde officially makes contact with, the more eyes and expectations will be on her.

You can choose multiple, but the one with the most votes will win.

Longshanks are happy to cooperate but I'm not sure they have a good skillset for this. Hedgewise should be more clued in to what's going on, but we have to be careful about working with them, and they don't like or trust the colleges.

I think Boris or the elector count could be a good call here.

so m thinking is

Ice witches this turn

see what they are like

and decided between Longshanks and Hedgewise based on what they are like. might be worth introducing them to the hegewise if they seem helpful, or if not to intradue them to some nice men that, and I quote, are '"Like those of Ursun, but with better manners'. to make them helpful. (work with the last ice witch we meet.)

Longshanks are a good complement to Mathilde. She (even more than most other Grey Wizards) is formidable in urban environments, but she has neither the connections nor the experience that Taalites would in the countryside.

The longshanks are the obvious and correct choice, the Hedgewise are because I can't not vote for the Hedgewise when given a chance.

[x] Longshanks
[x] The Ostermark Hedgewise

For the Kislevite side of the border. If we'd never met him before I might have voted for Boris, but as Jyn said I imagine it might be awkward this time. Although... it's possible he might consider this a possible way in on the project? Hmmm...

[X] Morrite Witch Hunters
[X] Longshanks

Working with Witch Hunters and the Longshanks was quite productive last time, so I see no reason not to apply the same method as before.

I wonder, what are the odds that another contestant of the Everchosenbowl is involved in this?

The trade league of Ostermark's nobility are likely to see you as a shareholder of the EIC first and a Grey Wizard second, but they more than anyone have a vested interest in peace and prosperity reigning over the Upper Talabec.
This is an amazing choice, and I'm saddened not to see more discussion for it.
  • Firstly, this is a group with many contacts/involvements all over the province. They likely have a lot of (unsorted) data, lots of people they can call on all over the province, etc. Remember that these people aren't just poor merchants, they're also the local nobility.
  • Secondly, our previous interaction with them was great fun. Remember when one of their guys came to K8P to ask us about trade and was weirded out by things? How Mathilde was spooky and ominous while also being ambiguously within her rights and worried about the legalities for each of her many hats?
  • Thirdly, there's a non-zero chance they've involved with whatever the problem is. Sure this would tip them off to our presence, but it could also provide us with a new and interesting source of intel + way to the problem.

Other options are probably more gameplay optimal, but from a narrative perspective this seems like a slam dunk.
