Was knowing how it worked a requirement to making a waystone? What if they just correlated erected stones mean good things and then crudely imitated them?
IIRC Belthani had some cultural drift from Albion before it cut itself off? Like, most of the tribes that became the Empire came from the East and found the Belthani already there. This would mean that there's a decent chance the Belthani knew the bare basics of geomancy?
It appears so, and quite a few of them too:
Excellent.

...maybe we should use a social action to get Panoramia a nice chat with the magic tree lady. And, uh. See where that goes.

Sorry no, we cannot take chances on the smut. @Boney did Mathilde grab Laurelorn romance novels?

A few do seem to have slipped their way into her collection.

That's also what immediately occurred to me.

@Boney could we tell if it was always an even number of Winds being drained, or just always more than a single one?

Just always more than one.

If it was that easy then we wouldn't have this project. Of course they had to know some of how it works, because not even the Elves and Dwarves managed to create new ones and they are literally vital to the survival of the planet. Chances are the Belthani and Scythians came from Albion, where they were taught magic by the Old Ones. They've lost a lot of their culture and traditions and lore over time, but enough of it could have survived to finagle a method of creating Oghams, albeit not as good as the ones in Albion.
I think she's commented on someone's cleavage once?
I do not remember that. She was once scandalised at how much skin Cadaeth was showing on her first appearance, which likely included a comment on how deeply the neckline plunged, but nothing so direct as mentioning cleavage. Mathilde was embarrased at showing her ankles in Eagle Castle. She's pretty conservative by our standards.

Spelling correction @Boney

Should be sprite? I'm actually not fully sure, because I think you used spite in the Nac Mac Feegle post as well, but at least dictionary wise sprite make way more sense.
Spites are spites, which are legally distinct from Sprites. That's their name in Warhammer.

In other news, this is Mathilde's first impression of Cadaeth:
Sitting in a low tree fork and smiling mischievously at the hummingbird investigating the flower in her hair is an Elf, and you very quickly have some uncharitable ideas as to how this unorthodox alliance might have been possible, as the neckline of her light green dress dips as low as the side slits climb high, and her bare feet don't so much hint as they do shout that the dress could be the only garment upon her person.
One has to wonder how a neckline meets side slit dress even looks like. In terms of provocative clothing, I think Cadaeth went so overboard it starts to push towards "funny" more than "sexy".

I like Cadeath way more after we saw her as a startled dork. I also find the little house absolutely buried and inaccessible under greenery very charming and relatable. What does a weird tree-elf-person-thing have to do to get some alone time, or at least warning about visitors?

I'm pretty happy about the arcane mark. More magic Mathilde! And it makes the "control arcane marks" thing even more interesting. There's got to be a synergy between having a living shadow, and being covered in shadows. Does anyone remember if marks count as traits for spell creation? The way I remember, we can make spells based on any trait, but it has to be directly related. The spell creation traits give a lot more leeway, in our case it's probably ok if it's got fog and does something army related. My idea for the marks would be to a "turn into a shadow" spell (or mist, I guess). First goal would be defensive (a ward save in TT terms, though I don't think it's actually a thing in DL anymore. Something that avoids/prevents damage no matter how strong the blow), though I could see it useful for traversal and stealthy traversal (details obviously depend strongly on how the spell actually works). In the long term, turning into a shadow seems like a good direction for something like Ulgu gilding. (And turning form a human shaped shadow into a dragon shaped shadow isn't too far, and that's another step on my totally secret plan).

[X] [SADDLE] Give it to the EIC
The EIC seems like the best place for this. Wilhelmina will likely find a good use for it and as a high ranking agent the Hochlander will also have access if required. Most of the other choices don't seem like they'll make nearly as good a use out of it.

[X] Bring in Heidi
Considering how this might be very important to Heidi bringing her in on it makes sense. She'll likely want to help us investigate this and even consider it to be Mathilde doing her a favour since Mathilde is helping prevent a potential problem.

This choice should also give us access to Heidi's resources which should make it a lot easier to both investigate Alric (our actual job) and determine what is killing the Unfähigers.

The conspiracy that is likely to have performed the assassinations of the Haupt-Anderssens included the former Empress, and the current incumbent is posing as a part of that dynasty. That matter coming under scrutiny could cause that whole house of cards to come crumbling down.

I imagined something like a cheongsam but with a neckline. Found one but I don't know the rules enough to be sure whether modeled clothes are kosher or not. The other images on the google results are definitely not.

[X] [SADDLE] Give it to the Hochlander
[X] [SADDLE] Donate it to Stirland
[X] [SADDLE] Donate it to the Undumgi
[X] [SADDLE] Donate it to the Colleges
With Boney's clarification on the Hochlander's ability to use the saddle I am fine with any one of these.

[X] Bring in Regimand
This kind of spywork is what he excels at, and he dismantled the conspiracy which those murders may or may not be related to. But above all, Regimand is a criminally underutilized character in the story, so I really hope this option wins.

[ ] Approach the Unfahigers in disguise (specify: as what)
Ranald says this is the way to go, but I have no idea which disguise we should use. I think I'll wait for others to come up with clever ideas and/or arguments for the other options.

So the local Witch Hunters seem like the best bet for competent local help.

Regimand and Heidi can each make significant contributions in their own way.

We're sort of missing the potential of getting closer to Alric by not bringing him in and also risking him solving the problem before we're set up but we've got to take risks somewhere right?
