Learning, 28+29+10(Windsage)=67
Learning, 6+29=35
Man, these were some lousy rolls. At least the arcane mark we got was good. Praise be to Halétha, who shelters us in shadows.
"So you would be willing to join the Project?"
"As often as I am able. My children grow strong, but I would not be willing to leave them untended for too long."
It sure is nice to finally ask someone to join the project and get a flat 'yes' instead of a fetch quest.
[ ] [SADDLE] Give it to the EIC
[ ] [SADDLE] Give it to the Hochlander
[ ] [SADDLE] Donate it to Ulrikadrin
[ ] [SADDLE] Donate it to the Undumgi
[ ] [SADDLE] Donate it to the Colleges
Two options I dislike - the Hochlander and the Ulrikadrin. The Hochlander is an Ulgu user and so using the Hysh part of the saddle might be bad for him, winds in the brainmeat and all that. The Ulrikadrin might be unusually well disposed towards magic for Ulricans, but Ulricans they are. A magic item that does away with the stress of a task seems anathema to their beliefs: you're supposed to power through the exhaustion like a man, not cheat with
magic of all things.
The EIC and the Undumgi are both nice. This item could be given to messangers or scouts who need to work long hours. It's a bit risky to give an enchanted item to a normal unit, since it may be stolen or lost if they fall, but it's honestly kind of a lame item so I think this is fine. Giving it to the EIC is obviously the better choice for purely selfish reasons, but I could be convinced to go for the Undumgi .
Donating it to the Colleges might be the best for what we actually enchanted this item for - a proof of concept. We will no doubt write a paper on this, but if this paper is accompanied by the actual item I think the colleges will be more impressed. So all in all I'm leaning towards the EIC or the Colleges right now.
[ ] Approach Alric directly
This is too serious to play politics over. Team up with Alric and bury this matter as efficiently as possible.
[ ] Bring in Regimand
He was both your Master and your partner in dismantling the conspiracy that killed the Haupt-Anderssens, and likely knows more about them than anyone living.
[ ] Bring in Heidi
As a counterfeit Haupt-Anderssen, this is a matter that she would have a great deal of interest in keeping quiet, and she enough influence to open just about every door there is.
Alric seems right out, as it goes against the spirit of the mission. I'm not ruling out bringing him in if the matter looks to be too serious, but it definitely shouldn't be the first thing we try.
Heidi is a bit of a two edged sword. The Empress has a lot of influence, true, but wielding it requires working at least somewhat openly. This could seriously backfire if this brings attentions to Heidi's connections to the Haupt-Anderssens. I don't like this option very much.
Regimand, though, I like everything about. He has specific knowledge relevant to the problem, he is a kickass spy, and we know and trust him. Bringing him in gives us an opportunity to work along with our former master, but where we were once an apprentice following orders, we are now a Lady Magister asking for the help of a Magister. This is cool, I love this, there isn't enough Regimand in this story, let's do this please.
[ ] Approach the Unfahigers openly
[ ] Approach the Unfahigers in disguise (specify: as what)
The Unfähigers should be scared enough to take any help they can get at this point.
[ ] Interrogate the Unfahigers
Sneak your way in, interrogate, Mindhole, sneak your way out.
[ ] Approach the Hunter's Council
They have authority over the City Watch, and the rank to know not to gossip about a Lord Magister of the Grey Order. See what they can tell you.
[ ] Approach the local Witch Hunters
The Longshanks of Taal are a lot easier for Wizards to get along with than most Witch Hunters, and would know about strange goings-on in Talabheim.
[ ] Other (write in)
Honestly, I have no idea. I'll wait for others to give their opinions but I lean towards just rolling a die, since clearly we have lost Ranald's favour and need to appease Him.
