Noticeably absent from this tale is mention of the Dwarven highway that runs right alongside this allegedly undiscovered crater, the Dwarf-carved tunnel through its walls, and the ruins of the Elven trading city of Athel Maraya that you know for a fact Talabheim is built upon

Look Taal may have had his aim slightly off and have the dragon land on an elven town but that happens to the best of us, right?

Ya know if they are going out the same way that other dynasty did in Stirland. It raises the possibly that its the same vampire carrying these out.

One horrifying possibility is vampires having a Agent 47 equivalent. At any moment a flying suitcase is gonna chase us twenty miles across the country when we get on our shadowsteed :V
To what is it a reference?😁

We should bring Heidi into this. She's the empress, and so could open us all the doors and gives us nearly all the ressources.

If Cadaeth is an Elf then she will have some sort of residence here, and if she is a Dryad she will have a tree that she resides within, and if the lurid tales of Tor Lithanel are correct and she is a little of each, then she will... have a dungeon within which she will lure innocent yet consenting young Elves into for all sorts of wondrous torments. Perhaps there's only so much accurate insight that can be distilled from those tales.

Mathilde did take the chance to enlarge her collection of trashy romance novels, after all.

mhm, tempted for Heidi to open up more interaction with her and perhaps even understand her more and how she could help us in the future but the option sounds like she's giving us options, political powers, and connections but ultimately expecting us to solve it which costs AP while Regimand seems like the dude who will handle it all himself like he did with the previous emperess.

mhm, still wished we took the opportunity to sabatoge Alric, would of definitely chosen Hedi option then to steal the credit for ourselves but thinking of just doing the responsible thing and contacting our master to go uber hard on this conspiracy boogalo.

Getting the Empress involved in the Colleges' internal politics seems like a really bad idea because of the terrible precedent it sets.

Didn't expect another arcane mark at this stage at least outside of battle but this is a pretty benign arcane mark to get. Nice boost to Intrigue which is now Mathilde's second best stat.

Good timing too since after tons of Learning, Piety and Martial epic deeds with a sprinkle of Diplomacy we're finally going back to our Intrigue laden roots with a real blast from the past. Talking to the local Witch Hunters or interrogating the Unfahigers seem like solid choices.

As for who to contact - working with Alric would have been the most straightforward option but since we don't want to help him we've got the though choice between Regimand or Heidi.

I mean more that the fact that she is committing fraud by simply holding the position you mean? On the scale of covering up Hedi we have arguably committed treason. I am not sure bad precedent matters, and it would be in line with Mathilde putting her faith before her role as a wizard, so one cannot say it is out of character.

Unfortunately, this 'basic' model is far from the only one that exist.

No malus due to having contributors?

glad that your latest recruit to the Project is already proving as useful as she is charming.
Is her race just that attractive to humans or is Mathilde just really smitten by Cadaeth? I remember her appreciating on her looks each scene they have.

Also did White Dwarf just peace out after K8P? When? For all the foreshadowing Mathilde and the guy never interacted at all. Dug for an hour using search bar too.

They're employees of Mathilde's, so they don't give a malus.

The downside of waiting for a dramatically appropriate moment to reveal yourself is sometimes things sort themselves out without needing your input. It's probably not the first time that's happened to him.

Not having to burst seemingly from nowhere and perform improbably feats of heroism was probably very restful

He did fight as a regular dwarf at the gates though, if I remember correctly?

He just didnt have a reason to reveal himself, doesn't mean he didn't take the chance to kill some Greenskins and save a dwarven life or two.

I'm getting the distinct impression that these lurid tales are working towards a theme of Tree Lady Step Please.
It's slightly more difficult to write an arm on the prosthetic with the bearer of that prosthetic no longer involved
I think this is meant to be *write a paper on the prosthetic.

I really, really want this "work with Heidi" option to win. Please?

Yeah. The way he normally operates is that in the middle of battle when all seems lost, a unnoticed longbeard among the Throng throws off his cloak and reveals himself as the White Dwarf. I have to figure that means he's been in a few Throngs that didn't end up needing him, and he's just had a normal battle, enjoyed a quiet victory drink afterwards, and then wandered onwards.

[X] [SADDLE] Give it to the Hochlander
It's not an Aston Martin, but it'll do.

[X] Bring in Heidi
Moratorium for 3 more hours my guy.

While you would like very much to tackle this fundamental question, your personal study of Waystones has to begin at the beginning. As you attend to other duties you take the time to detour to known local Waystones to study each in search of any differences. The archetypal Waystone is an upright square frustum topped by a square pyramid standing at about the height of a human. On each of the exposed faces of the frustum, if they have not been covered by accumulated dirt or grime, is the Rune used in Eltharin to represent Waystones: a diamond atop a pyramid, and above that, a teardrop. Whether this Rune is upon the Waystones simply as a label of its purpose, or whether the Rune in Eltharin is based off the Rune that marks each Waystone and the marking on the Waystone serves a deeper purpose, is an open question. At the base of the Waystone, though this is almost always underground, is a much larger square base ringed with an eight-pointed star that align precisely with the cardinal and ordinal directions. These Waystones absorb magic and, through means you seek to determine, add it to the leylines flowing beneath them.
This seems like foreshadowing and the parts will make sense later. The description is too detailed. Maybe the directions are for Chaos and aren't for the magnetic field? There's lots of bad juju in the poles right?

To be honest this is baseless if this was actually how waystones are described in the lore.

Don't remember when Mathilde bought Elven romance for the libary but good to know we can cross that off.

"I apologize for the abruptness, but none of Tor Lithanel could give me a better way to get in touch with the Council of Frost than to wander into your territory, and the sentries on the western road said that you were the most suitable to take the matter two."
too not two?
"We will have the contribution of Lord Hatalath, but though his familiarity with the arcane is clear, he may not possess as grounded a perspective as someone like yourself."
Imagine using grounded and not rooted.
My disappointment is immeasurable and my Christmas is ruined.

You've acquired the Arcane Mark known as Shrouded, and descended deeper into the grip of Ulgu.
I see this as a complete win

Do we lose college favour for shared authorship?

Learning, 28+29+10(Windsage)=67
Learning, 6+29=35
Man, these were some lousy rolls. At least the arcane mark we got was good. Praise be to Halétha, who shelters us in shadows.
"So you would be willing to join the Project?"

"As often as I am able. My children grow strong, but I would not be willing to leave them untended for too long."
It sure is nice to finally ask someone to join the project and get a flat 'yes' instead of a fetch quest.
[ ] [SADDLE] Give it to the EIC
[ ] [SADDLE] Give it to the Hochlander
[ ] [SADDLE] Donate it to Ulrikadrin
[ ] [SADDLE] Donate it to the Undumgi
[ ] [SADDLE] Donate it to the Colleges
Two options I dislike - the Hochlander and the Ulrikadrin. The Hochlander is an Ulgu user and so using the Hysh part of the saddle might be bad for him, winds in the brainmeat and all that. The Ulrikadrin might be unusually well disposed towards magic for Ulricans, but Ulricans they are. A magic item that does away with the stress of a task seems anathema to their beliefs: you're supposed to power through the exhaustion like a man, not cheat with magic of all things.

The EIC and the Undumgi are both nice. This item could be given to messangers or scouts who need to work long hours. It's a bit risky to give an enchanted item to a normal unit, since it may be stolen or lost if they fall, but it's honestly kind of a lame item so I think this is fine. Giving it to the EIC is obviously the better choice for purely selfish reasons, but I could be convinced to go for the Undumgi .

Donating it to the Colleges might be the best for what we actually enchanted this item for - a proof of concept. We will no doubt write a paper on this, but if this paper is accompanied by the actual item I think the colleges will be more impressed. So all in all I'm leaning towards the EIC or the Colleges right now.
[ ] Approach Alric directly
This is too serious to play politics over. Team up with Alric and bury this matter as efficiently as possible.
[ ] Bring in Regimand
He was both your Master and your partner in dismantling the conspiracy that killed the Haupt-Anderssens, and likely knows more about them than anyone living.
[ ] Bring in Heidi
As a counterfeit Haupt-Anderssen, this is a matter that she would have a great deal of interest in keeping quiet, and she enough influence to open just about every door there is.
Alric seems right out, as it goes against the spirit of the mission. I'm not ruling out bringing him in if the matter looks to be too serious, but it definitely shouldn't be the first thing we try.

Heidi is a bit of a two edged sword. The Empress has a lot of influence, true, but wielding it requires working at least somewhat openly. This could seriously backfire if this brings attentions to Heidi's connections to the Haupt-Anderssens. I don't like this option very much.

Regimand, though, I like everything about. He has specific knowledge relevant to the problem, he is a kickass spy, and we know and trust him. Bringing him in gives us an opportunity to work along with our former master, but where we were once an apprentice following orders, we are now a Lady Magister asking for the help of a Magister. This is cool, I love this, there isn't enough Regimand in this story, let's do this please.
[ ] Approach the Unfahigers openly
[ ] Approach the Unfahigers in disguise (specify: as what)
The Unfähigers should be scared enough to take any help they can get at this point.
[ ] Interrogate the Unfahigers
Sneak your way in, interrogate, Mindhole, sneak your way out.
[ ] Approach the Hunter's Council
They have authority over the City Watch, and the rank to know not to gossip about a Lord Magister of the Grey Order. See what they can tell you.
[ ] Approach the local Witch Hunters
The Longshanks of Taal are a lot easier for Wizards to get along with than most Witch Hunters, and would know about strange goings-on in Talabheim.
[ ] Other (write in)
Honestly, I have no idea. I'll wait for others to give their opinions but I lean towards just rolling a die, since clearly we have lost Ranald's favour and need to appease Him.

Awww i feel sad that we never really explore the romantic potential of Vicereine Cadaeth.
Her magical dungeon sound like a fun fantasy for Mathilde to experience when you consider Vicereine's unique form.

The two look at each other. "There are perhaps those better suited to that business," one of them says with a smile.

"But none more desirous, or more likely to seek vengeance should they be thwarted, than the one you are already on course to find," continues the other.
Translation: Cadaeth will kill us if we don't send a cute wizard lady to her doorstep.

You take a great deal of mental notes on what she is willing to reveal about the lornalim, glad that your latest recruit to the Project is already proving as useful as she is charming.
