Oh thank Abel it's over.

Do you know how hard it was to see so many "I vote Faith because Ranald is cool and/or I trust him" posts without bursting into one of my classic "Ranald benefitted directly from Abel's death more than anyone and likely had a hand in it" speeches?

Trust me, the only thing stopping me was over five thousand pages worth of experience telling me it would only galvanise the Faith voters, and even then I had to delete like three in-progress posts because I realised I was getting too salty and would only drag down the civility of the thread.
I had wondered… :V

Do you know how many times I look at your posts and restrain myself from saying "I'm glad Abel's dead so we didn't end up pursuing the 50 year old dude romantically?".

You're not the only one restraining yourself.

This was neck and neck.

Whilst I am a bit disappointed that Truth didn't win, Faith is also an interesting mystery box.

The extremely close nature of the vote hopefully means that Mathilde's thirst for knowledge is as strong as ever - only tempered by her relationship with Ranald - so she (and we) could pursue other really interesting research in the future.

I mean, we didn't end up pursuing him romantically even when he was alive, so I don't think that's something you need to worry about.

I also haven't advocated for Mathilde to romantically pursue Abel ever since the thread voted for a monogamous relationship. I still want to ressurect him, obviously, but him and Mathilde ending up together has always been a secondary side-goal to me, as can be seen by the many, many times I said I was willing to willing to bring him back even if he ended up hating Mathilde for it.

I honestly don't think that was ever in doubt. The vote was about this particular field of research. There's still plenty of other fields she's involved in or could involve herself in that could be just as interesting that doesn't necessarily have to do with the Divine.

My fear was mostly 'Mathilde doesn't research this because other Order gods/their Cults/someone else doesn't want her to do so'... which would be deeply unsatisfying and at least in my view actually regressing from reading the Liber Mortis.

That just this time she's passing up research because she trusts Ranald is better - not quite a decisive stride towards knowledge I was hoping for but also not knuckling under outside pressure.

*whistles* Holy crap Faith pulled through. Someone should tell India to change its national motto - that Truth apparently does not always win.

I am pretty sure the Slann do not speak with tongues among themselves, but rather commune though the geomantic web. The only way to learn Slann would be to.... hook our brain... into a Waystone. :V
They speak to Skinks and Saurus, and they managed to communicate with the High Elves at one point.

It would probably be more accurate to say that we should attempt to learn Saurian, but for all we know it's impossible to vocalise it with a human throat.

We can only have Faith that Ranald will come through and offer Mathilde some other weird and awesome stuff to balance losing the research.

I mean the one thing he could offer that might make up for it... even if I do not really like the way it was done, is theurgy. I mean there is all this Ranald power that we can make in the material world and the contact of divine and arcane does not make Dhar so... Tongs 2.0

I expect no tangible reward for doing this and I don't need one. If all we get out of this is a pat on the head and a good job from Ranald then that's fine with me. I didn't choose Faith to be rewarded.

Well I did not choose faith so I would be disappointed at no or scant rewards and I imagine just shy of half the voter base feels similar. Faith is its own reward may be fine for the very faithful, but in this decision Mathilde was faithful by the edge of a razor so I expect she too would be disappointed at getting nothing

Arcane languages stir the winds....
What would happen is we used illusion to create sounds from an Arcane language?

I feel like it's a logical step up from the rite of way technique of using ulgu to cast spells indirectly.
Maybe an improved Mystical matrix that does not have to target the subject of the matrix?

Rather than headpats, I hope that Ranald speaks to us directly for once. Why does Heidi get to hear him brag about when we don't get to hear him brag about her? What does she have that we don't? Is it because she's a vampire?

What are the odds that we worship the one God who uses the postal system…
