I wonder if we can ask EIC to take a look at Talebecland to see what happening there. Must be something important if a Alric is there and it proabably not that quiet event.

I mean we can't spy on Alric but if we were to get points of interest in the are we can make guesses.
The EIC has strong relationships with Lieske in Talabecland and probably with Talagaad as a result of the EIC dominating the Old Dwarf Road which feeds into the Old Forest Road at Lieske. The Forest Road leads to the port of Talagaad next to Talabeheim which subsequently leads into the River Taub, leading to Unterguard and then Grimminhagen in Middenland. The result of this is that the EIC needs to have contacts there and in Taalgraad to ensure steady trade, so I assume it wouldn't be too difficult to get them to work.

The problem is that our network of informants is focused on trade, and not the internal matters of nobility. No guarantees on how effective the EIC will be in that respect.

Hochlander has been making contacts within Witch Hunters as well. Between the two ways we might get something to point us wheter we should look in to it more or it is something that can be left alone and not cause problems. Which is what I want to know an a general idea is fine.

I think Alric somehow pulling the plug on at least part of the Waystone Project would be just the thing that'd get us to finally use our birthright as a dwarf and put his name in The Book.

A new trailer for Cathay came out:

Not much new stuff, but there are some cool displays of magic. Most importantly, I want to say that this trailer has probably the coolest visual of counterspelling magic when that mage dispels the barrage of Pink Horror blasts. That's gonna be how I envision counterspelling from now on, it's so cool.

EDIT: Ah damn. A dev confirmed that the ability presented there was a Lore of Yin Spell called Missile Mirror and its effect is like that. That doesn't mean I can't headcanon counterspelling to look that cool!

It is a very cool idea for a spell tho, counter and attack in one.

Whoever made it know efficiently.

Is the answer not obvious?

It is a counterspell effect so powerful someone looked into making it an active spell. Best of all worlds.

So a few weeks ago I reread the Quest and...is it just me, or is something big coming?

Someone (I can't remember who atm) warned us that the defences at K8P will "come in handy" or words to that effect, and while we've certainly knocked out the local Skaven and Greenskins, there's no garuantee they won't come back with a vengeance as those races always do. Then you have the narrative point that you don't build a big fuckoff tower of doom and only use it once...

Then you have Vlag and the plan to take Mad Dog Pass...good for trade since it means the Dawi control all the World's Spine Mountains, but it also exposes them to the Chaos Dwarves and other Badlands nasties. And we have been hearing about the Chaos Dwarves more...

Now, this isn't really up there in terms of things to worry about - if you're not considering the possibility of a massive war you don't belong in this setting. But I do think it would be a rather satisfying and dramatic direction for this Quest to take, for the Dawi to be at their strongest in generations and have to defend their new position against all comers.

Then there's all this business with Marienburg which could turn into a terrible war if it's not handled wel, and now we know the Chaos Gods have set up an Everchosen bracket...while I don't think the latter is likely to come up any time soon, the former breaking out at the same time the Dawi are fighting off Skaven/Greenskins/Chaos Dwarves could be really bad.

There were a few other ominous bits of maybe-foreshadowing but overall this is more a gut feeling - we're doing pretty well, strengthening the Dawi, hurting Chaos where we can, liberating Sylvania, and that run of good luck won't last forever. At some point the pendulum will start to swing back, right?

Or maybe I'm just starting to think like a Grey Wizard.

Depending on whether it works on regular missiles as well or just on magic missiles, it might actually work on roughly similar principles to a counterspell. Take the existing energy of the magic missile, subvert it and redirect it towards the caster.

I've always imagined counter-spelling/dispelling to be a broad range of techniques. Sometimes you might disrupt the delicate web of energy that empowers a spell, sometimes you might just weave a shield to stop it hitting you, sometimes you might counter the physical aspect of it. Depends on who you are, and what is most appropriate for the situation.

That was the Celestial Order's Magister Matriarch and she warned about potentially needing the K8P artillery school - which might indicate a siege of K8P or might indicate K8P forces fighting elsewhere and needing a lot of artillery (which would be particularly important since Azul's Engineers Guild is extremely conservative so if the Southern Holds are to march they'll really want human artillery backing them up).

That's the one! Yeah that's exactly what made me start wondering and my mind went to "massive Skaven counterattack on K8P"

My guess is that it's related to Nuln's Skaven problem. If something goes wrong there, it would be really nice to have a backup gunnery school. If nothing else, a lot of institutional knowledge might survive.

Of course, it's (possibly) a prophecy. Multiple, contradictory interpretations that may never come to pass (or that are brought about by attempts to avoid them) are the point.

Technically, yes. In Warhammer Canon, the Storm of Chaos, lead by the Everchosen Archaon, happened in the year 2521 (about 35 years from the current year in quest).

Boney has mentioned that behind the scenes the contest for the crown of Everchosen has begun, with Archaon being one of 32 candidates. It's speculated that the expedition to Dum may have been the trigger for this, but we don't know for sure.

There's also the fact that Stossel was being very vague, and it could just be ominous foreshadowing for any of the numerous conflicts that could break out—like a Lauelorn-beastmen war, or Thorgrim's Silver Road war, or just random greenskin/skaven activity.

Oh yeah, the Skaven under Nuln, although that's less a looming threat and more an immediate problem I hope will get solved without us.

I don't think it did, I just think the selection process just takes that long on average, not all of them are actually 'fighting', some of them don't even know they are a candidate, and some are not even chaos yet.

... Everchosen Alric.

Fuck.

Chaos lords don't seem to be all that bothered by the frailties old age brings, and he definitely has the knowledge to attract the wrong sort of attention.

Actions has consequences after all. Our latest actions in saving Vlag, and work on the Waystone project has certainly made waves aim at Choas to start the next great war years ahead of Canon.

Ultimately even if I were confident about some big war breaking out there's not much we can do to prepare that we haven't reasonably done already. I'm just saying, we don't want to be surprised when thousands of Skaven come swarming up from under K8P or when the Chaos Dwarves besiege Vlag or...something.

I want to be productive and add to the discussion, but it always comes back to me chuckling at the words "chaos" every time I read it. The Final Fantasy: Stranger of Paradise trailers have corrupted me. All I can think of when I read Chaos is Jack in my head telling me to kill Chaos.
