Is this supposed to be southern Middenheim or southern Middenland? I'm assuming southern Middenland personally. Specifically the towns running alongside the River Taub branching off from the Talabec, which includes Eldagsen, Bad Hohne, Holtdorf, Unterguard and ending at Grimminhagen. This is assuming that the expansion is running along Talabecland and the Old Forest Road, which would make sense considering the EIC's connections running along the Old Dwarf Road.

If the expansion is running along Altdorf territory, then I would expect it to focus on Delberz and the surrounding towns leading to it. Either way this expansion is alleviating a lot of my concerns about the EIC's lack of reach in the northern provinces. Wilhelmina seems to be taking advantage over Talabecland and Ostermark fighting over the River Stir and the Eastern sections of the Empire to expand northwards along the riverine sections of Middenland. There's less competition here than Altdorf and I assume Wilhelmina would be quite happy to corner the market on the Empire's new trade allies, the Eonir.

I'm not sure if the below map of trade routes in canon here:

But it does show an existing major trade route running up to Delberz, so it makes sense.

No.

Next turn we need to talk to a few of the elf houses and wards.

[ ] Spend time assisting or ingratiating yourself with someone else: specify who and how.

this is not like the colleges or the rune smiths where mathy has enough in character knowledge to start with the right people.

We don't know shit about these people, we first need to find out what they are like and what kind of things they might want before going to the deal table.

Right. I forgot about that option existing, and I basically thought we had to choose blindly.

So, which one do we go for? The low-hanging fruit or the more xenophobic houses that come from Saphery

So on a different topic

I would really want to try and talk to one of the Hegewise as well as the elf houses.

or at lest try and get one hegewise onboard before we take the unified theory action.

magic classism aside, they are good at wards against chaos and magic

scratch that: they are fucking good at wards against chaos and magic, maybe they just stumbled on it, maybe they are more academic then the colleges credit them for, but they definitely know something others don't about telling demons to fuck off.

and they have their own arcane language that is smaller but different from what the colleges know.

I honestly think The Ward of Frost is the one we have to do first and foremost for political reasons, they are the ones that reached out the most from the start, so it would be bad manners to go for someone else first.

otherwise, I think we have to at least talk to the three magic houses (yes, even the scary one.)

I think we should try to discover a bit more about the relations between the Wards and Houses, so that if we go to the Ward of Frost first we can make sure we visit one of their rivals immediately afterwards, so we and the Waystone project aren't seen as being completely theirs.

I am super curious what this might be. I don't want to say it's everchosen business, but it could be. Besides, if the province is mobilising, even only a partial mobilising, that's big news. Especially since the Chamberlain said that Ostermark was one of three provinces capable of mobilising (alongside Hochland and Talabecland) in case of war with Marienburg. Everyone else is tied up with internal troubles; orcs, vampires, beastmen, skaven, the Eonir etc.

According to Realm of the Ice Queen, the Hierarch of Taal in Kislev presides over that branch of the faith from a great stone circle inside the Shirokij Forest. Unfortunately we don't know that, as it might IC be a reason to do it to get the Cult of Taal onside.

Alright, so I spent some time editing out this map to give you guys an idea of the EIC's trade position and the current Empire Trading Zones:
The blue lines indicate the canals being constructed. The one between the Talabec and Stir in Ostermark and the one between Aver Reach and Black Water in Stirland. The Green circles indicate the trade zones that the EIC has either a significant presence or dominance over, the darker the green the stronger the presence. This is why the Old Dwarf Road is the darkest, followed by the Zhufbar/Moot Road zone, then the remaining light yellowish green trading zones to indicate a minor to moderate presence.

The Orange circles indicate trade conflict zones, with the Orange lines indicating who is having a dispute with who. Obviously this means the Marienburg Delta getting annoyed at the Empire, Salzenmund Strand being annoyed at Laurelorn, and Talabecland being annoyed at Ostermark. The Red triangle indicates an active danger zone, the Shirokij forest in Kislev right next to the Talabec.

The EIC has effectively no presence in the Orange spots and practically none in the Upper Soll Valley. Wilhelmina is being quite smart by avoiding the hotspots and the conflict zones for safer waters.

It should be noted that the map probably isn't 1:1 accurate with quest maps because at least in here Delberz and Grimminhagen are way too far apart, but it's the best I could get. The unedited trade zones map is available in the "Trade and Economy" page of the wiki. The map itself is from 2nd Edition WFRP Companion in the Advanced Trade section.
