Been busy with work lately, as well as nervous after the events of the auction. But I'm grateful things are starting to look hopeful again.

[X] Locking Horns: A challenge is being made. A challenge that can be returned. It is time to show the beastmen that humanity is not so weak as they believe. They may well offer treachery, but monstrous pride might well keep them from it as well. Either way, a true champion must be called forth, either to slay the enemy's leader in an offer difficult to refuse, or survive cowardice long enough for the knights to charge in at full bore.

[X] Staunch The Blood, For Now – The offer is a terribly tempting one, but one you are allowed to refuse. In this case, you will. Besides, you want Kerillian actively present the entire time so that your stolen Witch Elves don't start to get any strange ideas about ever going back to the way things were. Besides which, you aren't sure if letting her indulge in every bloody whim she's had since picking up the sword is the best possible thing.
[X] Fire and Food: There are other food production sites, silos, storage. It's time that some of them cease to exist. Ransack them to feed your own warband, and deny their contents and production to the enemy. The daemons might not need food or water, but the Druchii damned well do, and without the latter, they cannot sustain the presence of the former.

17 Sorceresses survived Salkalten, including Alyssa and Hultressa. Natasha has killed one. So 14 subordinate Sorceresses remain scattered on the Ark.
IIRC some of them were also killed when the farm blew up and Maghda damaged an Anchorstone.

That's disastrously few.

Fourteen spread between keeping the Ark afloat and holding down territory for the Slaaneshi cult, in addition to taking out the oppositional holdouts?

No wonder the Cythari District got one of Alyssa's two closest subordinates assigned to it, even with her injuries from Johanna. That means the other one of that pair is gonna be on overwatch/operational command, leaving thirteen mook Sorceresses I think to maintain control over the entirety of the Claw of Dominion.

If we take out even one more, that's gonna destabilize their entire operation, wow

IIRC some of them were also killed when the farm blew up and Maghda damaged an Anchorstone.
Can you quote those passages? I don't recall them

Thanks for update @torroar! Hope you have happy holidays!

Ugh, so many rolls that could have gone over 100 if we rolled better! Silly complaint over a success, but really want to over succeed at this point.

Do love moment where Freddy and Nat love each other so much it allows Freddy to laugh off pain, since I imagine his torturer is very upset he has broken yet and cause of it not working to take over Ark as well as she should.

Just hope his adopted daughter is being inspired by his defiance rather than being scarred.

Don't trust beastmen to honor duel, but at same time could be great way to destabilize them.

Uhmm...
Is there a higher chance to find Hultressa and Gwendolyn at one of those targets?

Or Natasha is better off waiting for them to come to her?
We dont want them to come into contact at all, since Natasha appears ready to try and kill Hultressa flat out for leaving Freddy and the rest hanging as she appeared to do.

What we do want, however, is for Alyssa to come out of the tower so that Hultressa can gank her herself. Every moment that Alyssa burns keeping her hold on the Ark together, every second she spends on torturing Freddy, is time she can't spend recovering from the mauling she received in the aftermath of the mask off moment at the auction.

Which is, in turn, time for Hultressa to prep for the rematch uninterrupted

One of the funny things about hitting the food production centers, is that every faction is going to want control over them. So hitting them means that Alyssa's faction legit has no choice but to try and take them back, otherwise they risk breakoff elements because the Druchii chronically assume they're immune to consequence and thus that only they, on an individual level, can get away with backstabbing when push comes to shove. Not to the degree that the Skaven do, but uh...The group that Alyssa's put together isn't exactly the sanest or most disciplined cohort, y'know?

Worth keeping in mind

"WAIT!" The priestess of Slaanesh cries out, piteously, as of all people it appears to be Roland who has reached her despite everyone else's attempts to get at her first. "Look upon me, mortal, do you not realize what you do? What you deny yourself by striking at me?"

She reaches up a hand and runs it down her body, Roland's blade raised high but unmoving.

"I can see it within you. Decades….," she trails off in horror and fascination in equal measure. "You have denied yourself so much, cut away so much! How can you stand such an existence?"

"STRIKE HER DOWN!" Jaqueline shouts as she savagely hacks a Druchii to death with her pilfered sword before being tackled by a daemonette that bowls her over.

"I can help you with that," the priestess whispers, her smile going from heartfelt, to seductive, to something else altogether as he remains frozen while she approaches him, the giggling daemonettes of her honor guard stepping back to allow her forward. "I can give you all you desire…,"

Roland, to your shock, reaches out slowly as well.

"Roland!?" You shout out, rage starting to color your vision all the more.

(Forceful Entrancement: 65+Roland Piety(19)+Blessings of the Lady[Might of Purity](15)-Empowered Slaaneshi Sorceress(15)+Oathkeeper(10)+Resistant Arms and Armor(10)+Ambush Shock(10)-Aura of Slaanesh(10)=104/100)

Then his enormous bear paw of a hand clenches around the priestess' wrist, right as her hand just began to place itself against chest.

"Apologies, madam, but I am spoken for by one now long lost, and I likely shan't find another. And I find your existence and faith deplorable," he informs her gently.

"Wha-," is as far as she gets before Roland rears back and then slams the pommel of his gigantic gromril greatsword directly into her unarmored head, the loud crack of bone breaking muffled only by the outraged shrieks of the daemonettes around him.
"What need has a Grail Knight for wealth? The Lady's favour is beyond price."
"What need has a Grail Knight for feasts? The Lady's love sates all hungers."
"What need has a Grail Knight for pleasures? The Lady's favour is a true knight's only desire."
"What need has a Grail Knight for dominion? The Lady has made him a servant of the people in her name."
"What need has a Grail Knight for pride? The Lady has humbled him to remind him that to serve is no insult."
"What need has a Grail Knight for sloth? The Lady has laid a duty that is born upon his shoulders with a glad heart."

Good boy. He seems to be progressing nicely on getting that Immune to Psychology rule.

I want force concentration. I want the murder elves to be constantly around their gods new champion, because I do not share Kerillians confidence that they will be cowed by humans and an elf that doesn't worship Khaine in any way. Not without making examples at least, which would diminish our forces.

Congrats Kerillian, you brought them home, now take responsibility.

[X] Keep The Blood Flowing – Going out and remaining unseen, and killing many, is literally what Kerillian has spent centuries doing, and if you return to the mainland, is liable to do for centuries more. Johanna speaks of some kind of odd training in Nippon and Cathay, of a Shadow Under Heaven, and while she admits her sire is the far greater in usage of Ulgu and the like, she is not incapable. She managed to stalk around the Ark on her lonesome already, after all. It would put both at risk, however, for all that they might well be able to keep frustrating the efforts of the Cult of Pleasure. Khaine despises Slaanesh, all the more so right now, it seems, and in that twisted regard you are almost in agreement on that front.
[X] Attack An Arena: The Arenas are full of slaves literally trained and built and fed properly to be satisfactory combatants. You have a much larger warband now, but why not swell it all the further? Traverse the slave tunnels, emerge, and shatter more cages, break more chains, and become an even greater threat to the machinations of Alyssa. Hells, maybe you'll even get her to come out of the tower that way all the quicker.

The soulbond scene reminded me of just how much time and emotion I've come to invest in this quest, had me smiling and in tears. Also a good reminder of why I like grim-dark work so much, it makes those moments of defiance and noble actions that much more poignant.

I also really hope Roland survives this and exalts becomes a proper grail knight, the casual denial of the daemonette, just being such an inspiring presence to everyone. I understand that his son is still out there and as such his "tale" has never quite been finished but I just want what's best for him. Roland's just good people.

A reminder though that the last challenge of any Questing Knight is to fight and beat the Green Knight in a duel. Roland's brother is duke Maldred, and one of the things Maldred is most famous for is running away when the Green Knight challenged him to a one on one duel. More then just a culmination to Roland's quest, that fight is going to be the culmination of the history of an entire dynasty.

This should be a 102 after adding all of the mods up, not 72.
72 is correct if the Druchii Veteran modifier is negative, which would make more sense than it aiding us.

Druchii Veteran was meant to be a negative, not a bonus, yeah. Apologies.

There are no brakes on this Ice-Witch train.
Its honestly insane that Freddie and Natasha's combined pained tolerance is enough to turbo-trounce a +65 modifier from an absolutely unhinged thousand year old druchii sorceress with a very well defined grudge

It goes a bit beyond mere mundane pain tolerance, admittedly. If we think of the pain being delivered with magical and daemonic poison aid to assault the soul as much as the body as pure heat coming from a powerful generator (Alyssa) and the recipients as heat sinks (Frederick and Natasha), it would be like the original intention of the design is to forcefully overheat and explode the former, only to find out that it's actually part of a duo networked with one another. And the second one is hyper cooled. Additionally, Frederick quite literally doesn't have a mundane human soul anymore, he's savagely nearly had his ripped out himself entirely and had a good tipping past majority chunk torn out before metaphysically having the Ancestor God Gazul reinforce the existing remaining structure with high quality noble dwarf soul contributions and then firming it up afterwards, with what didn't get ripped out being touched on by Sigmar Himself to the point of the latter permanently altering Frederick's body. Natasha, on the other hand, has been directly channeled through by the Ancient Widow herself, an experience that literally changed her body and soul as well. She got rather painfully...hmm, I suppose one way to say it is stretched, permanently so, by a power so much greater than herself acting through her. Expanded? Scaled up? Definitively altered, yes.

And the two of them have entwined their souls at the deepest possible level, to the point that, yes, in helping Frederick, Natasha is also suffering aftershocks of the daemonic soul-venom crafted of a joining between Nurgle and Slaanesh, but in holding tight to one another they are reinforcing the other, reassuring the other, and gritting their teeth together and in turn, greatly enraging their enemy. It's not sustainable in the longer term, not truly, but for now, they're managing to hold on.

All the more reason to introduce distractions to Alyssa, then. Which goes back into my question about the number of remaining Sorceresses, if at all possible?

Unfortunately, Natasha doesn't know that for certain, none of the slaves do either, as sorceresses usually fly overhead quickly or move through the streets with heavy escorts, etc.

The original coven was chunked 60%/40% going Alyssa's way originally, the other 40% going down in the brawl over the Tor of Dominance. Some have to spend at least a very goodly portion of their time checking over the Dhar Anchorstone Complexes, tweaking this and that, performing a ritual now and again, etc. while others have to stop in at the various food production sites to force fertility and growth upon them, and at other times are called upon to do things to help with the Ark's defenses, or at the Arenas, or so on. When one of the Anchorstone Complexes was violently disrupted and exploded, it is likely that at least one sorceress died then and there, while those that Alyssa sent away from the temple to investigate were unlikely to have died then and there they definitely were quite spent containing the damage at the time, and may have taken a casualty or two in the ensuring fighting since. The other group, sent to the pyramid that went up in flames, were being escorted by an Alyssan force, so unlikely to have taken damages as well. That pyramid's magical aid was taken up, temporarily, by Hultressa for a time meaning reassignments elsewhere. Not every sorceress remaining on the Ark was at the Auction, either, others were elsewhere performing their duties as one must across the Ark.

One sorceress was sent to the pleasure district to hunt down the last dregs of the Cult of Khaine before they could try and join up with the Cult of Atharti, and presumably to join in the squashing of the latter afterwards as well. Natasha does not know, nor does any of her warband, know where the other one who helped yank Frederick went. But there's only so many places they can be with their reduced numbers. It can be assumed that they're largely being dedicated to major crisis points relying upon their expertise or leadership.

The damage to the Aethyric Net and the other Anchorstones in the network demands attention to try and fix and maintain, but simple/quick comprehensive fixes don't exist when it comes to workings of magic like that, and so without Alyssa on hand to direct and empower and actively involve herself, you can presume that each of the main complexes, of which there are five, or...were five...has at least one sorceress desperately trying to metaphorically duct tape it, possibly more. That is also another reason why the Ark is speeding towards Norsca, they need to touch shoreline and allow the Ark to rest itself without relying upon Anchorstone floatation and propulsion so that they can perform fully restorative repairs.

If Sadrina and Kerillian had to be a judge of it, based on what they saw at the top of the Tor of Dominance and the Auction itself, and what Johanna has seen skittering around in the shadows, it is likely that there may well have been only twenty-two or so sorceresses left on the Ark. But that was at the start of the Auction, not including the likely death at the Anchorstone Complex, the one that died in the reclaiming of the First Draich, and potentially any casualties caused elsewhere on the Ark by non-Alyssan actors.

considering the rate Natasha is kicking ass , the depleted state of the black ark and its current full on civil war , I get the feeling that should Natasha really a large enough army of gladiator slaves and later take secure the food supplies to sustain them while denying them to the rest of the ark , we might be able to outright take the ark

so the real question is will it stay stable enough for Hultessa assuming she's still alive to drive it back to Ostland ?

Just shoot them and be done with it.

Thanks for that!

So that means we can assume that of the assumed remaining 20 Sorceresses without any offscreen gankings, that four-five are on the Dharstone anchorpoints, leaving us with a minimum of 16 or so wandering around the rest of the Ark holding down territory, performing vital maintenance, or otherwise assisting in helping put down any crisis points. That shifts the calculus a fair bit.

The Arena pits may or may not be one, but the food stores are definitely one or more. Assuming that all the remaining food pyramids are either under their control or being contested directly, that leaves...Three Pyramids and one Aquafarm, right? That's another four.

They absolutely have the docks being watched, purely as a means of trying to catch any runners and to browbeat the shipwrights for sure. Thats another one at minimum.

Meaning we've got something like a minimum of Eleven floating sorceresses running around the Ark right now, doing damage control and handling other crisis points. Ten if you assume that they have one coordinating the entire mess in Alyssa's absence.

That's enough to double the numbers at any one tipping point if reinforcements prove necessary, with half their number left over to try and put down any other rebellious factions with their direct involvement. Not reserves, but more flexible deployments. Not accounting for any Sorceresses sent to reinforce the Athari siege that just had their Slaaneshi Priest and Sorceress ganked by Natasha and co.

Neato.

So if we hit the Arenas and try a slave uprising through there, that means that Sorceresses would split their flex numbers across the two remaining Arenas regardless of which one got hit first. Meaning something like two Sorceresses per in addition to less mystically inclined Druchii and whatever Slaaneshi units they can muster as reinforcement in a fortified location explicitly about forcing obedience and violence to those resisting them...Not ideal circumstances to try and hit them from.

On the other hand, if we hit the food stores, larders, and production centers, those are much less fortified areas, there's more of them, and also much more urgent and vital to their operations, meaning any response will be by its nature diffuse and thus better enabling of a defeat in detail.

And all we have to do is kill a minimum of five Sorceresses in addition to whomever else is being used to hold down the fort on Alyssa's behalf before their magical leeway completely runs out, and a run on the Dharstones can represent an existential threat to force Alyssa's hand...

Assuming, of course, that the other Druchii factions on the Ark don't force inflict additional or otherwise critical attrition on the Cult of Pleasure forces.

Muy Bueno.

Edit: But yeah, based on what the Slaaneshi crew pulled in the most recent update, and what it took to counter spell them, barrelling down on individual Sorceresses with a raw concentration of Hero units is the best way to overcome whatever defenses mundane or magical they may have in isolation to gank them. Since we have a pretty clear idea of what will force Alyssa's hand (Hitting the Anchorstone complexes when there are insufficient Sorceresses to reinforce/take up the slack) then we know what conditions we need to meet to accomplish that. A murderball can work when making a run on said complex, but in the meantime raw attritioning ought to be the order of the day.

And if we manage to kill one or two Sorceresses over the food, that means we can afford to move onto the Arenas more generally, since by then they'll lack the numbers to concentrate force in response to us hitting them up. Reversing the calculus by making them into death traps for the Sorceresses themselves.

If we pull that off, and assuming that the other Druchii factions in play can manage to gank one of the floating Sorceresses at minimum, then we should have sufficient numbers to make a run at the Anchorstones, because the Atharti Cult is going to eat up at least one of the floating Sorceresses just to keep them in check and thus eat up their capacity by one.
