Freddy have no idea. While he is a good candidate in most aspects the man have barely passable in diplomacy and litle love for the southern lords, you need a good diplomat to make an efective emperor.

That does leave out who would be elected next Emperor though. In the hypothetical case if Magnus dieing to the orks.

I guess Frederick would be frontrunner, but I don't think he would want the position. Who else would have enough prestige to get the job?
This has been discussed in the past, and it is generally agreed that while Frederick has a lot of general respect as the crazy drunken warrior who elevated Ostland (and you might want to Search "Prestige", martial glory is expounded on with canonical examples as something that genuinely results in respect and ability to get away with literally crazy shit), he's not liked or respected as a person or politician enough to be a front runner.

I know it's a little hard to find something so vague but it helps everyone to use Search.

Genuinely, thinking about it, Otrud shouldn´t have to hard a time becoming empress.

Three trident votes + three sigmarite votes (because of her actions in karak ungor and in the great war against chaos. the cult of sigmar would probably prefer frederick, since he was blessed twice by the heldenhammer, but i don´t think freddy would want the position and middenland, marienburg, talabecland and the moot would have a fit) + vote of stirland = seven pretty secure votes.

Some more and she would be empress, especially with the backing of the trident and the sigmarites. She is also not so contentious as to get a coalition against her specifically to keep her away from the throne. Like.... a certain other trident member

If she want to, she would have a real shot yes. But realistically so does guntar or probably the person ruling reikland or nuln. In the end it's not really something that we should put too much thought in.

In canon, Magnus explicitly didn't name a successor and I suppose put in the extra effort of not having any acknowledged legitimate children all on purpose. He could have, easily, enshrined himself and a continuing line of Von Bildhofens. He had the prestige and popularity for it, nationally, religiously, martially. He didn't, because he truly believed in the system of the Empire with Elected Emperors and Electors, people working together to form a more harmonious whole. Not that it stopped canonical Gunthar from trying to put himself forward as a new Von Bildhofen Emperor, but he annoyed the Grand Theogonist at the time when it came into question and he didn't get elected.

In other news, I resigned myself to not getting much writing done today because I had to go do adult things IRL, only for it to turn out other adults had made mistakes. So I have wasted gas and time to turn around again. Very annoying.

Adults, am I right?

I don't know if this has been brought up before and I missed it, but I think you're right, it had never occurred to me before. That said, in lore Magnus lived until 2369, so he'd have another 25 years. Ortrud will be 85. She's 60 now. I think odds are someone else will need to step up, who is between 15 and 30 years old right now.

We can have TWO Emperors named Magnus in a row right? That's not forbidden? Can we win on name recognition?

Typically electors pick amongst themselves and Frederick is not retiring. So if we don't get him killed in battle odds are decent Frederick will still be alive when Emperor Magnus passes away.

So our Magnus would not be in the running.
I mean... I kinda expect to get home after escaping the Ark and for Magnus to already be sitting in the big chair running things. Our death is going to be basically assumed and our county can't not have an elector count. At that point... Well, just handing him Brain Wounder is an option. Our reign doesn't HAVE to end in death.

Technically anyone can be an emperor it's kinda enshrined on their foundation.
Realistically anyone distinguished like a reikmarshall have a good shot at it. It's just about getting enough elector counts to vouch for you.

So if we don't get him killed in battle

"If" we don't get him killed in battle?

You can't even scream anymore.

You can't call out to Sigmar, or any of the Gods, or anyone else.

Struggling, fighting all the while, you feel almost disconnected from your own body.

(Dying: 67-10+18-10-20-Greatly Enfeebled(20)-Extensive Flame Cage(20)=5/100)

Magnus will be a good leader. You hope. You already know he is a good son.

Anna might well shed a tear, but you know she will continue to work on regardless, which is something to be proud of in its own way.

Alexandra, you so dearly wish you could tell her not to blame herself for this. Her armor did more for you than you could have imagined in such a short amount of time.

Arthur will surely pray for your soul's passage to be swift and easy, and you already know that he has a wealth beyond all gold with his wife and children.

Agatha. Alisa. You've no idea where they are right now, but they are surely powerful enough to live long and fruitful lives. Happy, possibly, though what that happiness takes the shape of you aren't entirely sure.

Logan will have the rest of your family to take solace in. And, if you are very, very lucky, he might one day punch Gunthar in the face or something.

Every single one of your grandchildren, every single one, flits through your mind one after the other, their whole lives ahead of them.

If only there was a way to tell Urgdug not to blame himself either. Hells, he might get another title out of helping take a Black Ark.

In the end, Frederick von Hohenzollern's last thoughts were of his wife, Natasha. Over a dozen daemonettes mercilessly, gleefully, joyfully proceeded to tear him to pieces. His armor, a wondrous gift from his daughter, was purposefully and steadily ripped asunder from him. The binding pieces, those core portions from which it would endlessly regenerate, were torn away and thrown to the side to be studied as idle curiosities by the sorceresses of the Druchii. The Runefang burned the daemons even to just touch, yet they sacrificed portions of themselves with macabre masochism to remove it from the dying man's grip, severing his hand at the wrist outright to ensure that same removal. The gauntlet he bore, that thing of hated dwarf artifice and defiance, was similarly removed along with the arm that it had guarded, though it would not seem to fully go inert until some time later, the glow of the runes banked like low burning coals.

Alyssa Voidreaper was most gleeful at his death, and would take his corpse – what remained of it – to make a new flayed banner of h̴̛͈̗͈̀̽̐͊͑͠͝ͅį̶̟̭͚̬͍̯̱͉͕̟̒̆̃̈́̕s̷͖̙̏̎̄́̓̕ ̷͕̙̺̋̀̀

Your name is Magnus von Hohenzollern, and you can only watch in despair and confusion as the Black Ark leaves the shores of Ostland without any sign of your father's return

You mean if we don't get him killed in battle again? I find that unlikely.

As mentioned, the Electors can elect someone that is not a Elector Count for Emperor. In canon Gunthar von Bildhofen was not a Elector Count and still managed to get his foot in the door for it when Magnus the Pious died.

Evangeline Hertwig is probably going to be one of the candidates for emperor. She's Magnus the Pious's sword of justice which gives her a element of clout among the political table. It also grants her a certain image that to have her as empress would be to continue Magnus's vision while Magnus is dead. What with her Sword of Justice position being the closest thing the Empire of Man can possibly get to a direct heir for Magnus the Pious.

Evangeline has connections all across the empire, has done deeds great and small, for a possible candidate to the seat. Evangeline would be a strong choice for the Empire over all the possibilities. The Trident cannot get a Elector on the throne because they are the North, and sorta insular. The other choices in the south are new, or old. And Gunthar sorta blew his diplo cred with his own choices in the public eye.

But we are not at a point where we need to decide the new emperor/empress, yet. That's canonically not for a long while yet. And as the emperor known for his faith Magnus the Pious was last known to have multiple Fate points which means multiple Fortune Points (multiple dice rerolls).

...idk, I'd vote for that. After this arc? Like I don't think it's in-character for Freddy to abrogate responsibility, but I'd vote for something like tossing the Runefang to Magnus and going on a prolonged "diplomatic tour".

This has been shot down over and over.

Frederick does not want to retire. Elector Counts never retire. They die in office or are removed via coup.

"Diplomatic Tour" in full armor with our wife right behind us at full winter blizzard steam directly north to back up our wayward daughter who has found herself in a bit of a pickle.

As Elector Count that is entirely not something we can do. As an EX-Elector Count... it should be possible. We retire to run a cough cough "mercenary company" cough cough and respond the Tzarina's call for fighters.

Freddy is not retiring.

This is not up to a vote. There's cultural inertia that locks Freddy down in the Elector Count seat for his whole life. Stop trying to get around the "will not ever retire" concept.

"Diplomatic tour" does not work. Because Freddy's duty and obligations are inside Ostland as the Elector Count of the present. Not to go off on a sea voyage away from Ostland when any year at all a new threat could attack Ostland and Freddy needs to be there for it as the Elector Count of Ostland. The only way Freddy leaves Ostland is through stuff that logically makes sense to himself. Such as aiding the dawi to reclaim Karak Ungor, going into Marienburg to settle a Manann thing, or visiting Zhufbar for a Grudge settlement.

Gee, okay. Didn't realize it was an issue, sorry about that. I've only really read the main thread-marks and dipped my toes in the thread.

Reset the clock on the retirement question, yet again, it seems.

What is this, the fifth or sixth time? Less? More?

It's okay, no worries. It has come up a lot though. Like, a lot, lot. I do a lot of discussion and conversation and what not in the regular thread outside of threadmarks, so relying purely on threadmarks might not necessarily ensure you get absolutely everything. Sorry about that. I might need to chuck it into the FAQ at this point, though.
