I wonder if there's anyone left who we told the full story of Laurelorn too. Someone who can connect the dots. Magnus was at the meeting in Nordland, he could well recognize the title of Sky-Mistress.

...well.

That was a... thing.

...have you been watching The Last of Us lately, @torroar?

Nah. I don't really watch HBO or whatever. I heard people liked it, but to be honest - no hate to the voice actors or studio and such - I just bounced HARD off of Last of Us Part II after how the whole...well, thing went. Sorta just simmering annoyance/frustration/anger with the whole 'gyahuck now time to play the person who killed Joel for ages and also hey revenge bad m'kay' stuff. I loved Part 1. Part 2 basically made me roll my eyes out of my head for the remainder of the franchise. I heard they changed the spores to some kinda tentacle stuff for the show, though. No worries, no tentacles here for these guys. Just spores, your whole body steadily being degloved from your skin, slime, mutations, etc.

You know I had the same idea for what happened to the two armies Middenheim lost. Maybe it was Ixfernicth or something similar.

Kinda makes you realize that Chaos isn't the biggest threat sometimes in Warhammer.
Chaos is always the biggest threat. It's just not always the immediate one, and even if they're not quite at the 'constant existential threat' level there are still plenty of other hugely horrible things out there.

Thank you doe the update @torroar!

Geez, I didn't think something before the Old Ones would rear its head.

"There is no need for that," the dragon boomed, a deep chuckle escaping from between its humongous fangs. "My hoard is vast enough already that whatever trinkets you might deign to offer me would be but pittances."
I think this bit needs to be in bold.

Fair enough (I have similar opinions on the second game); it's just I saw 'zombie fungal infection' and was curious.

Also, well done on making these things incredibly horrifying and disturbing in such a short amount of text.

whatever idiot thought to try and direct it."
malegor does this have something to do with you we know he was in the mountain (I hope not since it might be more if it is acting on its own and wonder if this is the third fork thing cause we got de in the north this in the mountains and then whenever the beastmen are)

It was not until another week or so had passed that they discovered how the affliction spread, as the hordes had been stopped at the walls of another fort, the basement heavily fortified from their tunneling assaults. Those who stood longest on the walls as the bodies of the creatures piled up became to fall ill, their manner turning strange and fey. Some grew overly aggressive, almost rabid. Others became practically narcoleptic. Once they were quarantined by a few faithful Shallyans, within a few more days they discovered that same ever-present slime beginning to trickle from the orifices of the infected, some of their skin become loose in certain areas, mostly around the face and more specifically the nose and mouth.

Spores, declared the Shallyans after a short amount of study, spores rising from the living and the dead afflicted, rising up into the air. Immediately orders were given to set the bodies of the dead creatures aflame whenever possible, while rotations upon the walls were changed to be far more frequent. Any prolonged exposure could not be allowed, lest one become one of those things.
I think I know how the Orcs got involved: They realized they were dealing with a competitive life form and tried to smash the "rip-off".
"The Ixfernicth," the dragon repeated. "It is a creature from long ago. The closest approximation you could understand it as an intelligent fungus. Semi-intelligent, semi-sapient."
Interesting name. Closest thing google can find is a Canadian First Nation metal band. How'd you come up with it?

Huh. Anyone else think that might be what killed Gunthar's army?
It occurred to me and it would make some sense, but at the same time I'm not completely convinced. One thing these infected don't seem to be is especially fast moving from a strategic/tactical perspective, which makes me question their capability to completely wipe out an entire army with no survivors and no witnesses. There was also no mention of Middenland soldiery being among the infected, and while that might not mean anything (it depends on how fast the Ix burns through hosts) it is at least suggestive seeing as Ostlanders specifically were called out as being present.

Oh of course Mallus. Don't mind us fighting two Black Arks and an apocalyptic horde of beastmen just waiting to strike!
No, please, send some fucking mold from behind the Widow's fridge our way!

Still, a cool concept. Makes the world feel alive.
Also, from the sound of it, we lucked out in dealing with this problem, as we can burn the infection without her heroic sacrifice.

Yeah, not surprised that the dwarves wouldn't want to deal with this and wouldn't ever want to talk about it with anyone at all. Especially if it lives underground so they can't just ignore it.
