If we try to destroy the portal at range with single digit artillery we're going to be there for a long time.
Depends on our rolls.
We have no reason to believe it can be damaged by cannon fire.
Likewise, we have no reason to believe it won't be oneshotted by a single cannonball and/or that it isn't immune to soldiers hacking at it with swords if it's resistant to cannon fire.
Saying we're going to be here for a long time like it's fact is overconfident, GM made no ruling one way or the other.
Edit: Just checked, apparently Cannons are the bullshit the empire uses to take out the big targets.
At point blank range you basically roll 8d10 and utterly ignore armour, applying a wound for every d10 that "hits".
At max range it's 1d10 per cannon. Still reasonably confident that they can damage the gate.
If there was a write-in to bring the cannons to half-range, setting a defensive position around it and then firing the cannons I'd be all for it(we'd probably obliterate the gate on the first turn that way).
And that's not even counting the disruption they have.
These things are dragon killers.
EditEdit: My bad, it's s10 to hit and ignores armour, that's d6 + strength - toughness and result must be 4 or higher?
