Since Gruber's the current elector count of Nordland would there be any chance the runefang would get corrupted?

I kinda doubt it can be corrupted, at least not with hilarious amount of preparation and fucktons of sacrifice and alot of time. Its a fucking Runefang made alongside the other Runefangs by drawing in and spending the entire power of a Storm of Magic by one of THE greatest Dwarf runesmith/master since the Ancestor Gods themselves.

I can't help but feel that going after Kessel would have been the better choice. Sure, having a High Elven army as back up is great, but Kessel is out of ammo and under siege. He has very little time left. Aurelion on the other hand is able stalemate the Nurgle Commander and his forces. He can hold out. Kessel can't. If he dies, we are going to be questioned why we saved the Elves instead of the Humans of our own nation, and then we have the whole mess of a succession crisis for Nordland.

According to what we know we have already lifted pressure from the seige from our victory, the enemy has put itself between us and Kessel since they expect us to help them, Kessel still has their cannons to use, and helping the Hig Elves will break the stalemate allowing them to defeat the enemy.

All in all we are in a better position to help Kessel by not going to their aid but rather going to cut off the head enemy first. They should be able to hold on as long as we help the High Elves soon.

You're forgetting we'd have had to go through an even bigger army than we just fought to get to Kessel, and the army we did defeat was taken from the forces sieging Kessel, so that's a good deal less pressure on him. Once we relieve The High Elves, we'll be able to head south to help him with much less fighting.

Helping Aurelion is clearly a case* of Besiege Wei to rescue Zhao.

Gruber can't afford the Elves to get loose, we can't attack the besieging army directly without suffering massive casualties. By going against Gruber's expectations and rescuing Aurelion instead of Kessel we force him to divert some of the forces besieging Kessel in an attempt to stop us from freeing the Elves to smash his besieging army with overwhelming force.

Now, the smart thing for Gruber to do would be to try and take Kessel as soon as possible but he's a Nurglite, they generally don't favour rushing things.

Edit:
*Variant case.

Almost. Then she canters away atop an absolutely frighteningly massive stallion the color of obsidian, the dwarven runes engraved upon the head of her halberd flaring as she heads towards the 'front' of the formation and thus closer to the denizens of Chaos. The tales say that she assisted a small dwarven clan recover a sacred heirloom of some sort from the Mountains of Mourn which as pushed them into prominence once more within the past few years since they returned to the lands of the dwarves and Empire. You are not sure about the horse, though no doubt there is a story about that as well.
Out of curiosity did she get the horse from Cathay? If so is it one of those Ferghana horses?
