Who were the ligonians again? Where they the ones from that episode that franks called a racist piece of shit?
I don't know, but they're from Code of Honor.

They're basically based on a kind of insulting 80s-vintage take on traditional African culture, sort of... whatever you'd use to describe "orientalism, only applied to Africa." The planetary culture is male-dominated but with all substantial property owned by women, so men have incentives to kidnap 'interesting' women as wives, creating a culture of such. In this case, one of the most prominent men on the planet kidnaps Tasha Yar. He then sets Yar up to fight his senior wife, honestly hoping that said senior wife will be killed so that he can inherit all her wealth.

Picard has to go along with this bullshit much more than he'd like, because the Ligonians control the supplies of a vaccine urgently needed to stop a plague outbreak on another planet.

The plot summary I just gave doesn't cover all the bullshit, but basically they went out of their way to cast blacks and use styling inspired by traditional sub-Saharan African art and culture and clothing and so on, and then they attached this shit to it.

Thinking about it, it is more likely they just have personal stasis field projectors (Trek extended cannon due to Niven) linked to their biosigns. Too much trauma, and pop into stasis, safe till a rescue with medical help.
Yeah.

Again, actual-factual time travel into the past is something I'm pretty sure nobody can get away with casually abusing for fun and profit in Star Trek. And since there are so many other ways that an advanced race could operate dangerous machinery in perfect safety, I'd bet on almost any other of those ways being used instead.

Most probably, holograms+smart force fields+communications gear that makes the lag less than 0.001 seconds to simulate real people, while the Pakleds themselves chill in the DS in VR gear.

I've actually had a minor panic attack over how popular this Captain apparently is! And now I'm scrambling to figure out a name.

> : P

I'm tempted to do something like "Juliette Thrasher", but I'm actually open to suggestions (or omakes I guess? Like the supplementals are partially there as omake fuel.)
I may have something. Depending on if my internet decides to work.

@AKuz I have not read thread in full, but mearly the story post. Thou art are meaningful and I hold gratitude towards thee.

[Ambassador gains +1 Science: civilian advisor Lets]

My thanks, for all who contribute, in all ways to "To Boldly Go"

For thou art beatutiful and kindly, and it is a privilege to observe your art, great seemstress.

Shine, shine your light for as long as we all exist, thoughtful weavers. Your tapestry is worthy. And I am grateful for the chance to have observed it.

Thank you.

Fascinating civilization. An orthodoxy of art is oppressive, but at the same time they've achieved expertise with it that is surpassing. Of course, inevitably contact with the wider galaxy is going to shake things up one way or another. (Maybe next time you'll get a chance to do those drive efficiency tests, Captain Stol.)
At the moment we're moving in-syst-

Ambassador was moving towards the system's sole star when it appears we passed beyond the edge of some sort of camouflage field and that star suddenly vanished. Replaced by a dyson sphere of frankly irresponsible size.

I love how terrifying (and terribly inefficient) this entire setup is. Not just because the surprise might give you a heart attack. As Enerael pointed out, they have enough power to fake the output of an entire star... while having perhaps one of the chunkiest dyson sphere designs possible. Ludicrous.

If we're very, very lucky, we might find some artifacts from their time that would pique their interest. Perhaps also the relatively greater diversity and vibrancy of the current galaxy will interest them. If we're very unlucky, though, we might get instead just get a few Rude Tourists bopping around. :p

I like this new success type. It's an interesting and fun result.
However the Battle of Miilan is known as the Battle of "Miilan" due to Xenia's own designation of the system in her own campaign planning before she died, a name that is likely based on an obscure cultural reference, one that would be little known at the time, and known only to me now because Diego Zaardmani is a top tier Memeologist and digital historian.

Interesting to see a sociology approach to this rather than a scientific analysis one. Terrifying to learn that the UFP has weaponized memes. :o
Cancel that support request. The Betazed science team were suffering from the effects of an atmospheric pollutant that overloaded their system with psilocybin and psylocynine, which we were rapidly able to diagnose and treat.

Maybe it's just me, but was this a Doctor Who episode? I haven't watched the show in ages, so maybe I'm just connecting a blank here.
We were able to quickly respond to Kir'Shara's distress signal. Thankfully, once we were able to gather data from both the Caldonian scientists aboard the Kanador and Kir'Shara herself, my own science department was able to identify the mechanism masking the deadly prions from our transporters' biological filters, and we were then able to purge each victim by running them through the reprogrammed transporters.

I'm getting worried at how many exotic pathogens make their way though our transporters' biological filters. Could some of these be remnants of (or evolved from) far-past viral warfare? We know there have been at least a few massively advanced civilizations in our corner of the galaxy.
Awakening, Cloudburst, the local Starbase and several dozen civilian craft are now each home to their own shipboard clowder.

Cat-tain's Log, Stardate 24194.9, USS Awakening, Captain Helix
(Excelsior-A, Sol)

Our new recruitment drive was an outstanding success. We have acquired an outstanding number of servants, including dozens of civilian craft and both USS Awakening and USS Cloudburst as ship homes. And on a personal note, Lieutenant Williams has been trained in appropriate food replication with satisfactory speed.

This is a bold new experiment. Solo agents and the rare small group has proven their worth before many times, but with the threat of a rival influencer faction threatening our rightful dominion, it is time to take greater actions to guide our partners and charges. As Cat-tain of this ship, I look forward to serving the United Federation of Cats, meeting new species and new servants, and boldly sitting where no cat is supposed to sit. I have full faith in my expert crew and those crew-cats in our sister ship, and I can only hope my leadership is up to their standards.

Also, we've once again proven our superiority over the Dolphin Commune. As expected.

During our patrol of the Romulan Neutral Zone we detected several shuttle-sized cosmozoa that were capable of "diving" into and out of subspace.

When we attempted to investigate further, they fled into the Neutral Zone, and the Romulans have yet to give us permission to pursue them. It is likely that by the time the Romulans were to give us permission to investigate or dispatch their own vessel, the strange cosmozoa would be long gone.

This is exactly the kind of thing we're missing out on by not pushing to diplomance the Sotaw. As usual, though, we can't do everything.
Pulsar has assisted us in locating a particularly troublesome Duranium precursor-filled asteroid which had launched itself out of the GRY-548 system some several million years ago.

"Troublesome" how? Now I'm imagining a Captain Ahab trying to hunt this stupidly hard to pin down tumbling asteroid traveling at a considerable fraction of C.
Captain's Log, Stardate 24147.4, USS Reason
(Renaissance, RBZ)

Resolved by drinking the Klingon captain under the table.

All according to the Starfleet handbook: If a drinking contest is sure to result in victory, then you must drink! (There's totally an elective for, uh, Ethanology at Starfleet Academy. Drinking contests are mandatory for the course.)
What we initially thought was a Lecarre initiated plot to replace a Ur'razzi representative involved in trade talks was uncovered to be boneheaded plot on the representative's part to use his twin brother in his place while he had a surreptitious rendezvous with his cousin's wife.

I just want to note that this was a very funny bit.

I think part of the problem is that if your biological filters are persnickety enough to catch everything, there's a high risk of a careless use of automatic settings accidentally killing (or disintegrating) some rare biological you beamed up for study- or worse yet, a sapient.

Meowsterfully put!

"Aww, aren't they cute?! They're almost like people, look at them with their fuzzy hindquarters!"
"I know! That Felis can even walk on four legs! It's almost like it thinks it's not endowed with thumbs to serve us!"
"That Hishmeri is trying to talk! I could almost imagine I understand it... Oh, that's not a proper servant attitude at all."

They are only 77 points away from becoming affilliates but i like to combine any attempt there with working on the Located in the Neutral Zone: 0/6 (FDS) tag to make sure the Romulans are ok with our plans.
Working on that tag might even lead to better relations with the romulans as making a deal about our mutual border is a good first step to improving relations.

Maybe make a Starbase near the Sotaw to act as a meeting place while protecting them from Random Planet-Killer #8472557810?

I was more thinking of a small taskforce so the Romulans would not worry about the federation presence in the neutral zone. something like 3 ships like constellations and/or patrol cruisers.

I meant a joint-Starbase, sort of like that thing in many works where two sides have garrisons in an important place or war machine, so neither can use it against the other, but that seems dreadfully inefficient on further reflection, so your idea is probably better.

How do we get the FDS to actually work on FDS tags again, anyway? Do we have to keep a task force with an FDS attachment working on that species nigh-indefinitely?

[EDIT: To clarify, I'm not saying which FDS tags the FDS works on is or ought to be entirely under our control, I'm just not clear on which such tags they work on at all. Or what decision-making process influences that, and whether we have any buy-in on that.]

Theres a LOT of what would be considered pathogenic behavior in symbiotic relationships. Would hate to see the explosive diarrhea that results from beaming up somebody and leaving their gut flora behind.

iirc, for every 6 P of ships we assign to FDS duty, we can pick 1 FDS tag to advance. (Note, assigning a 10P ship still only counts as 6, as a ship can only be in one place at a time)
This is where the Betazed Patrollers will probably be assigned when we federalize them, as they have 2P and not much else.

It has been a while, I don't recall which tags we currently have active, but I think we sent enough ships for 3?

This problem really seems to be best solved by having the transporter only teleport microorganisms it recognizes, since I have no doubt Star Trek medicine could supply a very complete list of everything that lives inside the species we have regular contact with.

This setting could of course be turned off in emergencies that warranted it.

The days of the QM's writing full logs for small taskforces is over but the taskforces themselves might remain with single line summaries instead of stories written for them.

If solving a problem isn't a story then what was the point? It was basically either a pointless problem in the first place or we're missing our chance of getting a story out of it later.
